the simple-mindedness of this "summation" is basically the problem of the subcontinent in the postcolonial scenario. never can people, it seems, allow the daggers to remain sheathed in the interests of actually learning about the other. which means not just listening, but listening twice, and then some. these are vast and ancient traditions - how can you ever be comfortable "learning" about them from politicians' rhetoric or jingoistic propaganda or the ideological academe that holds up the West as somehow the nec plus ultra of human cultural and scholarly achievement?

In electoral politics everything is about numbers in the end. But if you take a broader historical perspective you will see Hindu society whether conservative, liberal or progressive have all tried to incorporate and address the dalit issue. This is one area where there isn't a massive difference in their wish for righting the historical wrongs. Of course everyone frame it differently. Conservative will try to avoid the blame, progressives will blame conservatives, liberals will say forget the past let's look ahead. But everyone acknowledges the issue and real, genuine progress has been made. Of course there is much more to be done. But societal issues are a mess. Tableegi jamat was Reaction to Shuddhi movement of Arya samaj under dayanand Saraswati which was concentrated in NW india.
As the Muslim converts in NW india , i.e. Pakistan Punjab sindh and Indian Punjab harayan Delhi and part of west UP , they use to follow all the htier cultural Practises derived from their Ancestors who were Hindu. So all the "HINDUANAA rasm-o-riwaaz" was alive in their Lifestyle. Which still is alive in Most muslims of India and even Pakistan.
Dayanand Arya Samaj was a REVIVALIST REFORM Movement in Hinduism. It tried to eliminated worst features of Hindu religion like Caste , untouchability , Idol worship like superstition etc and Said "BACK TO THE VEDAS". As vedas were written during Tribal Phase of hindus so it contains Egalitarian Principles like most tribal societies. So They used vedas and Rejected all other later Hindu texts like Puranas which contains various deformities of Hindu societies when India Progressed into a Proper civilisation with Urbanisation and complex society.
So Arya samaj followers pushed Shuddhi even to the Convert Moslems in NW , as most of the lifestyle of these Converts was same as their ancsestors so , only work was to end the defromity of Hindu religion and Return them back to hindu fold.
So massive Ghar wapsi or shuddhi started,
The Deobandis suddenly got Spooked up. They launched massive Tabhleegi campaign , whose focus was to end all the Hindu cultural Traits from life of a Convert moslem , Try to Arabise him to level of deobandis . It was focused on barelvis. The ocnept of Chilla itself was derived from Hindus who have the concept of leaving the material world and go to forest and mountains to search for sprituality and later dedicate the lifestyle for Hindu religion and people.
So Tabhleegi jamaat was nothing but antithesis to Shuddhi movement

Shudhi Movement WAS AN 'INNOVATION', MUCH NEEDED THOUGH TOO LITTLE TOO LATE, brought by a Sect which had moved out from IDOL Worship traditions within Hinduism.
Different Sects under the Hindu Umbrella had BEEN PROSELYTISING UNTIL THE OSSIFICATION in Hindu Society sometime around the turn of the last Millenium.
SHUDDHI MOVEMENT BOTH SHOWED AND LED THE WAY IN BRINGING PEOPLE WHO HAD FALLEN PREY TO BOTH CO ERSIVE AND VIOLENT PROSELYTISING TRADITION OF THE SUFIS, CLERGY AND MUSLIM NOBILITY IN THE MIDDLE AGES.
Where Shuddhi Movement fell short was NOT 'WINNING' ENOUGH RE CONVERSIONS AMONGST PRIMARILY LANDOWING MUSLIM COMMUNITY, THE MUSLIM RAJPUTS AND JATTS TO THE ARYA SAMAJ.
Any 'movement' to RE CONVERT Muslims MUST FOCUS ON THE TRADITIONAL LAND OWNING CASTES OR 'BIRADARIS' AND THE 'KAMMI' COMMUNITIES DEPENDENT ON THE LAND OWNING ONES.

The timeline for composing the 3 veda itself is about in aprox thousand of years from 1500BCE to 500 BCE.
I m saying this with whatever historians have able to deduce frm the vedic text as till now they haven't able to found or excavate any major vedic era habitation etc.

The Tablighi Jamaat is an Islamic revivalist movement that spread globally, including to Pakistan. Some key points about the Tablighi Jamaat in Pakistan:
The Tablighi Jamaat has close ties with the Pakistani military and ISI intelligence services, who have used the group to recruit members for militant activities and support the military's regional strategy.
The group's headquarters in Pakistan, located in Raiwind, is seen as a hub where Tablighi members are approached by extremists and recruited for militant training.
However, the Tablighi Jamaat's leadership in Pakistan also faces challenges from more radical Islamist factions, leading to infighting and violent clashes between rival Tablighi groups.
The Pakistani military has encouraged the Tablighi Jamaat in Pakistan to be independent from the group's global Tablighi centres, as the military seeks to maintain control over Islamist and terrorist organizations.
Overall, the Tablighi Jamaat in Pakistan has a complex relationship with the military and religious extremism, serving as both a recruiter for militant activities as well as a target of attacks by jihadist groups outside the military's control.

Wah bhai wah like maza hi agea seriously, never thought ill get to listen for what ears were desperate to listen from long . .listening to this guest was like more exciting then any 'سماع' (sufi poetry).
Reason being that this great man realize n acknowledge the limitation of his research n knowledge. He is masha Allah pure academic person, practically understands the subject of research methodology, have very fine understanding of epistemological concepts which stops him from being blunt, it is no lie that he is maybe the first person I have listened to with this quality, unlike our local n internationaI speakers today who are masters of all jacks, n would respond to every question bluntly.
If Im not wrong it was imam malik ra(one of four famous islamic jurists) who was asked around forty questions on islamic jurisprudence in haram(sacred place for muslims), he answered more or less 10-15 questions n for around 25 questions his answer was 'لا ادری' meaning I dont know, books have been written titled 'لا ادری' in arabic literature containing the stories of wise n intellectual people replying with 'لا ادری' to very simple nature of questions. Wise people have said 'لا ادری' is a half knowledge.
This is the trait speakers, intellectuals, academians and the people of this planet earth as a whole have missed; self-acknowledgment for the limitation of what we know.
And the bitter truth is that even the public is less attracted towards such honest people, they are more inclined towards irresponsible n blunt people like engr. mirza Ali n Sahil Adeem, who are there to answer your all questions n wont even accept if proven wrong.
I have spent time in tablighi jamaat n I may not agree with all his research findings n results but this guy is gem for the reason I mentioned. Masha Allah far away from exaggeration.
Also the hosts should educate people that everyone is not literate enough to comment on everything, rather than being influenced by this phenomena n structuring your questions that way. Hosts make their guests believe that they are wise enough to comment on everything, n guests also start believing n acting that way except for few people like this associate prof from uni of Tennessee❤❤❤

Hindu revivalism is just a reaction to Muslim fundamentalism. We have already gone through partition. I'm a Kashmiri pandit who was hounded out of my home. I am a rationalist but approve of revivalism as a defence mechanism. I don't want our generations to suffer. I know that religion should not be mixed with politics, but I have faith in my religion which is fundamentally secular. It will self correct itself if it crosses the ethical or moral line.

    1. Start doing namaz 15 times a day.
    2. Get 100% sharia law
    3. Only get your children educated in madrasa, all other type of education should be banned.
    4. Every body should start doing quran hifz atlest 30 to 50 verses.
    5. Start 100% Islamic Banking in Pakistan.
    6. Traveling to non Islamic countries should be banned, no need to have any relation with kuffar

Babasaheb Ambedkar's views on Islam and Muslims:
Ambedkar was highly critical of Islam and saw it as a divisive religion that segregated people into rigid groups of Muslims and non-Muslims. He believed that the allegiance of a Muslim does not rest on his domicile in the country, but on the faith to which he belongs. Ambedkar said "Wherever there is the rule of Islam, there is his own country. In other words, Islam can never allow a true Muslim to adopt India as his motherland and regard a Hindu as his kith and kin."
Ambedkar also argued that Islam has a clear caste system, with Ashraf (descendants of Islamic invaders or upper caste converted Hindus) at the top, followed by Ajlaf (lower caste Muslim converts), and Arzal (the untouchables of Muslim society) at the bottom. He noted that like in Hinduism, these castes in Muslim society do not have inter-dining or inter-marriage.
Ambedkar was concerned that if Dalits converted to Islam, their nationalist feelings would be destroyed and the danger of Muslim domination would become real. He rejected offers to convert to Islam, as he did not want India to be divided like Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Overall, Ambedkar was highly critical of the divisive and hierarchical nature of Islam, and saw it as incompatible with the idea of a united, egalitarian India.

An excellent conversation and the good professor has a good grasp on his subject.
I wish his book was a bit cheaper $$$.
Having said that I as an Indian living in India would like to strongly disagree w/the good professor on his take on Hindutva & it's so called revival.
I see no signs of any revival but after having been the step child of the state and the system.
The otherisation that the professor is talking about is a response of Hindus towards repeated attempts by the Muslim minority to punch above their weight.
This is not felt by Hindus alone but is also by Christians in the South.
It would be extraordinary to expect that after so long and so much anyone would keep on turning the other cheek.
Now that the other cheek is not being presented and the raised hand is being stopped the Islamics are crying blue murder.
Happens. When someone pushes everyone around this response is bound to come sooner or later & that is what you see.

The Hinduism as a matter of fact was no religion. Its derived from.the Arabic word Hind which later became Hindostan. Hindus were the inhabitants of Hind. The actual religion of india was called some thing else( I forgot the actual word for it). Even the term Hidutwa is derivative of same root Hind. The original books of religion like Veds ( four ) Gita or Monosmrati etc when these were not corrupted indicate that it was a monothiestic religion Initially. Their followers believed in one diety with three attributes. The sign or insignia of TRISHOL in fact indicates the same philospophy of one God ( the single handle of trishol) with three prongs or attributes that is the Creator , the Sustainer and the Destroyer. This sign was introduced by some Prophet or monk when religion was corrupted and people started beliving in many Gods that is a separate Dieties each for Creation, Sustinence and Destroyer or Killer as is the case with Hindus today. So the prophets were sent by God to apply corrections where Unity or Oneness of God was amalgamated with demi gods and godesses.
Basically all religions originate from.same single source ie Allah Almighty who created the Universe from nothingness, He alone is sustaining the universe. He alone created the seven heavens and the earth. This is precisely the reason that natural signs or glaxial bodies like the Sun, the Moon , the Skies, the planetary glaxies and stars all are functioning in perfect unison order as ordained by God. The Qur'an states if there were more than one God, there would emerge difference each one pulling towards his own side and as such there will be no stability and continuity in the natural system. This is quite logical and the only path to bring unity among human beings who would live like one family on God's earth deriving their moral and legal authority from one source ie Allah Almighty which are defined and explained in almost all books of religion. If you study all monotheistic religions be it Islam, Christainity, Judaism or even Hinduism , from the original scriptures , you will find same common faith. The basic values and principals are almost similar in nature and substance.
The scriptures were corrupted by their followers over a period of time to serve their personal ends which ultimately lead to divisive tendencies and emergence of different sects and communities which we are witnessing today.
All Humen belong to one family and they all are children of God (not in littoral but general sence) and offsprings of one father ie Adam.
So my dear ones the bottomline is to revert back to your original scriptures and you will find unity in faith that is believing One and the Only God, that is Allah Almighty. This is the only route to Eternity.
This thing is becoming more clear now with globalization and wide spread education energising our thought process for indepenendent and logical thinking. May Allah SWT guide us all to straight path.

Ideally speaking modernity should reduce the strength of religion in a society. Problem is modernity never came alone it came hand in gloves with colonialism. As a result in popular perception they aren't adequately distinguished. And hence we are still trying to prove our religions are the best, they are not even religion but ways of life, they are compatible with quantum physics and what not. Or we are trying to say "western science" is yet to understand the kernel of truth our ancient religions have! This distrust of reason comes out of our experience of colonialism which makes us resort of religious revivalism for comfort. Thus now Asia is broadly divided into two kinds of countries. One in East Asia where they have marched on leveraging science and education and the other which is constantly confused about their religious identity and their place in the contemporary world.

Bidat definition is not correct by the respected Guest.
Bidat is not the corruption of Islam by innovations.
But actually Bidat is Corruption by any act which is considered Of utmost importance, and considered part and parcel of Islam. And we start considering it as part of Islam.
For example .. Using technology is by this definition not bidat. As if a person does not use technology, he is not considered Unislamic. So, dear guest, ur definition is by its root incorrect.

Shahzad Bhai maza ni aaya. The guest is either confused or not articulate in his thoughts and ideas. The podcasts of Zahid Sb, Ishrat Sb and Rafiullah were so enlightening. They were so clear and articulate in their thoughts even I disagree with few of their views but they had clear opinions.
This topic was important to me but I could not get what I expected.

But my question to this host-guest duo is that with this intrepritation of your "biddat", the day's accepted human-rights' code of forbidding the flesh trade and keeping someone as sex-slave (malkul-yamin) and selling that slave lady in human-bazar etc are accepted in the Qur'anic order..........
Not to forget here that Qur'an itself favours this concept of sex-slave (Q. 23.5-6; 70.29-30)..... alongwith that Islam's r@s00l himself not only kept and used sex slaves but he also traded them after "using" them till he wanted to.
