The tragedy of that week in Chicago, was that this supposed “administration war hawk” was not either of those things! He was a great man who definitely would have been an improvement over the actual winner that November!
Humphrey died in 1978, just one year after his hypothetical 2nd term. Considering the deaths of Kennedy (1963), Hoover (1964), Eisenhower (1969), Truman (1972) and Johnson (1973), Nixon was the only living President for a whole 18 months. Had Humphrey won in 1968 as well as 1972, he would've been the only President for 4 years, then his successor would've been the only one after Humphrey died in 1978. That would've been a whopping 6 dead Presidents in less than 15 years, compared to the last 15 years (2008-2023), when just one President died (Bush Sr in 2018)
This is the senator from Minnesota who reformed policing in Minnesota and gave just treatment to blacks. USA needs more unsung politicians like him in today's divided times in this great nation.
A decent man and a great American. Respect from the UK.
A good and decent man Mr. Hubert Humphrey. A man of faith in his fellow Americans. God Bless him.
Whatever you say he had a great voice, and was a great speaker.
I'm a conservative. Regardless of policies, I recognize a fantastic speaker when I hear one.
Oh how America would have been different with a President Humphrey.

The best president America never had
It would've been hard but had he broken with Johnson over Vietnam, he probably could've had a better chance at winning against Nixon
Great man and patriot.
Im a hardline conservative but I find that I like this guy.
Gene McCarthy’s brother was a surgeon who operated on me when I was but 14. He did a great job!
Humphrey: I chose not simply to run for president I lead a great nation!
We need great statesman like this today. Politicians with a strong moral, humanitarian and religious ideology, where are you?
Great speech
R.I.P. Vice President Hubert Horatio Hornblower Humphrey, a fighter Democrat for President (1911-1978) 😥 🇺🇸 ✌ ✌
