    Kirk's experience is what made him who he is today. As unfortunate as it is, Kirk turned his pain into prayer that in turn became his music. Had Mr Rick been a present figure in Kirk's life, he may have never become a messenger for Christ. What the enemy intended for evil, God used for good. 🙌🏼🙏🏼🙌🏼

      I’m sure he would trade it all to have been loved by a family as a child and now.
      The pain made you who you are is a myth that black people tell themselves to make things feel better. It’s simply NOT true!
      How many children who have had his experience are working for Christ??? I assure you more are working for the other side and struggling because of their terrible upbringing.
      See how this rationale doesn’t make sense.

      I second this❣️ It’s like having a hole in soul and no matter how hard you try to fill it up with things like relationships, clothes, drugs, alcohol, being a workaholic, purses, makeup, hair and or shoes just to name a few. You still feel that void aka hole in your soul. With the help of therapy or not, the only thing you can do is acknowledge how it affects your life and manage that your traumatic pain so that it doesn’t consume you. Once you acknowledge and manage it, you have to learn how accept it And that’s the biggest pill to swallow.

    07:47 My father walked out of my life when I was 2. He left my mother & went to a woman who was pregnant with my brother, who passed away in 2021 at age 50. This year, 2023, I was searching online to see if I could find out more about my father's military experience, he served in Vietnam. That's when I learned my younger brother had passed away. I was then connected to an older sister I lost contact with 20 years ago. We didn't grow up together, so we had only met 20 years ago. Through this sister I finally got pictures of my father. And they were pictures of him with the deceased brother as a baby and the woman he left my mother for. All very happy pictures. I have NO pictures of my father holding me. NONE. It evoked feelings in me that I never knew I had.
    My father passed away in 1990 at age 50. I found out in 1994. I am 55 years old and still those wounds, that I thought had healed, are still raw. My father did pop back into my life when I was 14 until age 17, So in total I knew him 5 years, FIVE.
    Queen Latifah is my 4th cousin. The Owens' in VA are a huge family - and I didn't have the opportunity to grow up with them, to know them, to learn my family's history. And now many folks are passed - and that just shatters me. I am grateful for Ancestry.com and the DNA that opened up a whole window to my family, one that was a black hole.

    This is a powerful conversation and so much to unpack. As Black men, we’re witnessing another black man show up broken and vulnerable. This isn’t easy for any human but especially Black men as no one holds space for us to be in this state.
    The one thing that I hope everyone takes away from this that no one owes you anything rather it’s our responsibility to recognize and heal the traumas in our life. Our parents have their own traumas that show up in their ability to parent. Life is about capacity which is limited or abundant based on who we are. Kirk’s trauma is also directly connected to his success… he wouldn’t be Kirk Franklin without it. A huge part of healing is forgiveness and releasing fear. True forgiveness sets us free and gives us back our power. The longer he waits on his mother to acknowledge and admit that she’s wrong the longer he’s going to give up his power. Authentic Love and forgiveness allow us to move forward without expectations but understanding our parents have a past and can only give what they have.

      True for unbelievers, but Christians owe God to love the broken and wounded. As Christians, we're called to persevere, to be patient, and simply be available to the unloved and outcasts. We simply shouldn't just lookout to our own interests.

    • @dlj8694
      @dlj8694 Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@Anointed1s_TV how can one truly love if there’s no forgiveness regardless of one’s religious belief? Self love allows us to love others. Fear and trauma rob us of these things. Kirk has not forgiven his mother and hated a man that he perceived as his father for decades. There’s a lot of work and healing necessary on his part.

    • @Anointed1s_TV
      @Anointed1s_TV Před 9 měsíci

      @@dlj8694 self love without recognizing how much God loves us unconditionally is fickle. Anyone that has self love without a relationship with God cannot truly love themselves or others. A person may think he/she love themselves, but if they are on drugs, a smoker, or promiscuous, then they truly don't love themselves. Drugs destroy the body, cigarettes destroy the lungs with cancer, and being promiscuous puts the body at risk to catch aids and possibly infect a spouse.
      Self love is dangerous if it's not properly inherited.
      Kirk does need to forgive his mother, but his mother should reach out to Kirk and apologize and seek forgiveness. Until that happens, Kirk will always struggle emotionally and even God understands that.

    This man's documentary was so RAW!!! I feel for him. I grew up with my biological parents and felt loved by none of them. I was nobody's apple's in nobody's eyes. I quickly thought: "oh well, so be it, maybe I'm not lovable by others, but I love myself". I later understood my parents lacked self love, so they couldn't give it to me. I just learned to rely on myself. They're older now, and they heavily rely on me. I've managed to heal myself with all the help I could see and receive and I'm happy to give them money, logistical and admin support. I'm trying to give them love but I've so learned to protect myself that it's work in progress. I'm grateful for all they gave me and don't blame for what they were not capable of doing.

      Most of y'all ladies would call him a no-good deadbeat father, and some would use him to say black men aint ish. This hypocritical double standard is quite sickening to me. Nevertheless, l pose this to y'all who give women like Kirk's mother every excuse in the book to avoid holding them accountable... What does a black woman have to do to her kids for you to say they are a deadbeat mother? I love my mom with all my heart. I forgive her becaus she was very young and going through some trauma, but it still hurts every single moment of my life not knowing who the other part of me is. My mom raised me the best she could, but after learning the truth from her, I wonder how different my life would have been with my real dad in my life. GOD is my FATHER. HE keeps me, HE keeps me sane and HE me going! I'm was told my real dad's name is George Forster, who lived in Brooklyn, NY, in the 60s as a teenager. I'm still hopeful.🙏🏽☺️🙏🏽

I hope and pray some day his mother will tell him the truth... admit to the truth about who his father is. To come forth and tell her story. I wish him continued healing and blessings. ❤

      Just so people understand that in the 60's and 70's people were doing crazy things like " running trains" where a group of guys were having sex with one girl. I believe she had no idea who the father is and cannot not come to terms with this. She will never admit what happened. There are so many men and women born from this atrocity now in their 50's and 60's who will never know who their father's were. I believe Kirk is asking her for something she can't do.

      @@MamaDee737 I think she is living in shame, I really can't speculate on what the reason is. It could be what you are saying, but we really don't know. But, if she does know who Kirk 's father is, he does have the right to know. I'm hoping one day that Kirk 's mother can come forward to tell her story. Maybe it will free her from some type of ugly secret. I don't see him pressuring her to do so at any point. Maybe Kirk, will never get the truth he wants from his mother...then, again maybe he will.

    I know how it feels to be in a state of lost and confusion. My mother passed away in February 2022 and we had not had a relationship for over 20 years. I’ve never known my father and have lived my life wanting to get the answers but knowing they would never come. To have the questions and knowing there is only one person who holds the truth is traumatizing. Throughout my life I’ve had to build a love of self because I walked my path alone. My faith brought me through many hard times as I served in the Army and later contracted overseas. When you have to walk the path alone it is hard but faith and many blessing from the man above helped me to overcome. I have built a relationship with my adult children that no matter if we don’t see eye to eye and can’t agree I’m still here for them.

      Dr Berry . and this is the very reason why its important that no matter what beef we have with the other half . we do not cut half of the gene pool. Black americans have double grief , being forcibly removed from the african continent and denying their african heritage in modern time. and add to that the fact that easy 80% of household are lead by females only. Identity is key its the building block of ones own existence. Black americans MUST speak at least one african language and ensure fathers or paternal side of the family are present in the upbringing of kids.
