  • Trying to figure out which island is best in Georgia? Both Tybee and Jekyll Island were fun to visit, but which is best for you? Come with us where we camp, ride bikes, go to the beach, eat lots of good food, and then even more food. Then we do some quick visits to Savannah and see our friends in Charleston.

    I spend about a quarter of my time on St. Simons. I used to go to Jekyll often, but since they raised the parking fee (again) to $10/day, not so much. All the beaches on Jekyll are cool. Go to Horton pond to see wildlife and gators. The whole area has amazing history. Pier village, Gould's intlet, and East beach on St. Simons are musts.

      Great advice! We need to check out St. Simons next time. I love that whole area and can't wait to go back. Hopefully it will be warmer next time. Thanks for the great suggestions on where to go! Take care.

    we're from Michigan (with family in central GA) been to Tybee twice, going again in 3 weeks. It is the only place that, I believe, rivals the gulf shore of Florida, in particular, Sanibel Island, for my favorite place, ever. nice vid.

    • @ChrisChrisman
      @ChrisChrisman  Před 2 měsíci +1

      We'll have to check out Sanibel Island. Florida has a lot of hidden gems. We did Crystal River where we went snorkeling with manatees and searched for scallops. Then went up to Panama City and all the little towns like Seaside along highway 30A. Then camped at Fort Pickens. Great trip! Glad to hear how much you like Tybee. We really enjoyed it. Thanks for the great comment!

      Thx! A little late getting this one published, but oh well. Grilled Starburst...can't believe how good that was over a campfire. I'm not a big fan otherwise. Maybe we will deep fry some in the next video! Not sure that's a thing.

    Great video y’all!!
    Sea turtles are such amazing animals!!
    Did y’all see any dolphins on Jekyll Island?
    Georgia is home to some very beautiful beaches! Thank y’all so much for sharing!!

      Hey Gracie! We did see one dolphin while we where there. About 50 feet off shore between the campground there and Driftwood beach. It was really cool! Georgia has a lot of hidden gems. We had know idea until recently.

    They had cable/WiFi at Jekyll Campground the last time I was there and you can rent bikes right there at the campground or beside it. There’s rental horses for a beach ride too.

    • @ChrisChrisman
      @ChrisChrisman  Před rokem

      That's great! Horses would be fun to ride around especially on Driftwood beach. We road horses from the beach into the water in St. Croix and they started swimming. It was a crazy feeling. Also glad to see they have a bike rental. We loved biking around the whole island.

  • @diddybushcraftnoutdoors8072

    My wife and like Saint Simons Island the best, we like the pier area. I like Jekyll Island because of the nature and the paved trails are great for biking. Driftwood Beach is neat place to see. Not too many places to eat but the most a good. Driftwood Bistro was really while the Mexican restaurant not that great but tolerable. Plus, you gotta pay to get on the island. Haven't stayed overnight on Tybee but we need to try it sometime. If you like hiking, Cumberland Island is a great place to camp.

    • @ChrisChrisman
      @ChrisChrisman  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for the great comment! That should help a lot of people out. We almost went to Saint Simons island instead of one of the other two. It looked fantastic as well. We will just have to go there next time. I agree there were not too many places to eat on Jekyll. We like hiking. I will have to check out Cumberland Island. Take care!

    No comparison. I lived in Savannah so I know Tybee well. It doesn't come close to what Jekyll offers.

      @ChrisChrisman  Před rokem +2

      Tybee and Jekyll were both new and interesting to us, but a lot of people definitely prefer Jekyll in the comments. Jekyll was like a small little oasis. I liked Tybee since it was so close to Savannah as well. Such an interesting city. Love all the green space and history. I really appreciate hearing other people's viewpoints especially people from the area that know it best! Thanks!

Several people have mention St Simmons so we will have to make a trip there sometime. I'll make a "Tybee vs Jekyll vs St Simmons" video then :)

Have fun in Jekyll Island! I love that place! Great biking and of course Driftwood Beach. Make sure to look out in the ocean and you may see dolphins jumping out of the water.

    Hi...may I know where did you stay in Jekyll..did you camp all days in Jekyll or did you stay in some place . Looking for stay /oceal front in Jekyll around May and could not find anything great .

    • @ChrisChrisman
      @ChrisChrisman  Před 4 měsíci +1

      In the previous video that is only about Jekyll Island I show where we stayed (czcams.com/video/H9jBA1uCovg/video.html) We camped at Jekyll Island Campground the whole time so may not be very much help. We do bike past quite a few places on the ocean, though. They all looked nice. Jekyll is a fairly small place so I would think you could still go wherever you want during the day even if your lodging didn't have the best beach, etc. Hope that helps! Let me know if I can answer anything else.

    • @ChrisChrisman
      @ChrisChrisman  Před 4 měsíci +1

      It was either late Feb or early March, but it was the year of an unusually cold winter storm. The storm that took down a lot of the power grids in Texas. It is usually going to be much warmer than when we went. I talk about it in our Jekyll Island video (the video before this one) here: czcams.com/video/H9jBA1uCovg/video.html.

    Good video, we are heading that way with our electric bikes. Are the beaches there easy to ride on? Thx.

    • @ChrisChrisman
      @ChrisChrisman  Před rokem +1

      The beaches were easy to ride on and I think you would be fine on electric bikes at both Tybee and Jekyll. Just get close enough to the water where the sand is fairly hard. Some of the wooden ramps down to the beaches may be better than others so maybe look around a bit. We have thought about getting some electric bikes as well. If you go to Jekyll, make sure to ride on Driftwood beach. Just realized that beach was featured in the movie The Menu. I was like, I know this place....:) Have fun! And let me know if you have other questions.

      I did a quick Google search and saw some articles trying to ban eBikes at Jekyll island. You may want to make sure they are allowed before you go. Here are some comments from TripAdvisor where one person says it's a "gray area": www.tripadvisor.com/FAQ_Answers-g35034-d11732975-t8141354-Are_ebikes_allowed_on_the_trails.html

      @@ChrisChrisman thank you, we have found that e bikes are much more excepted than a couple of years ago. There are sooooo much fun to have. I Sustained a pretty devastating knee injury, and could not ride a regular bike for about five years. The E bike has allowed me to be back on trails and outside having a great time again. I cannot say enough good things about them especially if you have a limitation in a physical way.

    • @ChrisChrisman
      @ChrisChrisman  Před rokem +1

      I'm so glad they are becoming more excepted. There are not a lot of good reasons why they shouldn't be. Sorry to hear about your knee, but glad you still found a great way to stay active! Our next long video (not a short) will be biking through the really cute towns of Seaside and Watercolor in Florida where parts of the Truman Show movie was filmed.
