As a former Royal Navy submariner the only method to increase the oxygen supply is to soil yourself and the methane from your faeces will increase the oxygen flow. Highly unpleasant but life-saving.
Rear Admiral Mauger knows how to handle the Media. He said a lot without directly answering any question..
High marks for the content-free answers; low marks for the transparency of the dodge. The best media trainers teach you how to respond with actual, gritty content, but just not the content that addresses what the journalist asked. A good example of this would be something like, "We received auditory anomalies at four locations and with as many as three different time signatures, though it's important to understand that triangulation efforts have not yet ruled out coordination of these signal tracks to a single event."

Navy submarine detection capabilities are probably some of the most closely guarded secrets. The admiral wasn’t really about to discuss any of that.

This is so heartbreaking for the families knowing that time is running out, I am still hopefully and praying that they are found.
The Coast Guard is one of the most underrated branches of the military and deserves a lot more respect especially after their heroic performance during the Katrina disaster. That being said I don't think they're capable of finding and rescuing a lost submersible especially at that depth. Only the U.S. Navy and a handful of specially equipped groups have that capability. Even if they find this submersible how are they going to bring it to the surface?
I just feel so terrible for the families. Especially the mom and wife who's on the brink of losing her partner and son. Unimaginable. 😔
They should have "imagined" it before they set sail on their foolhardy quest. In their next incarnation they should take a ride into space: it's safer. 🤡

The more I find out about this man and this contraption, the more crazy it seems.

He got away with not having a transponder, but it is not legal. CZcams had a Navy expert explaining from the materials, build and all the dangers of no proper testing and certification….he gave the reality of this, he believes it was crushed or breached at the time communication was lost.
There is limited technology that operates within that depth of water. Look it up.
@@loriann6810 I kind of hope it was instantaneous if it's already happened. Wouldn't want them to just sit and wait to run out of oxygen

I love that the admiral is being very careful not to give false hope where there may be none. This is a heart wrenching situation and these guys are doing an incredibly difficult job with such a tight time frame. My thoughts are with all involved!
Yeah because I read up on the safety mechanisms and in case of electrical failure or emergency, there's a way to manually release the majority of the weight and send the sub straight to the surface AND the weights are connected to the sub with like some type of special material that's designed to break in exactly twenty-four hours and send the sub to the surface no matter what. So the only reason that would fail is if the sub is trapped underneath something that is preventing it from getting to the surface. Did they even make it to the Titanic I wonder? They lost contact a little under three hours into the dive. And doesn't it take like 4 hours to just to send that deep to even get to the Titanic? But what could the sub possibly be trapped under if it isn't a piece of the Titanic?
An absolutely brutal way to go. Praying for a miracle.
Who'd have thought diving 12,000 ft to the bottom of the ocean in a tiny little submarine controlled by a playstation remote would have been a bad idea?

The banging was every half an hour for 2-3 minutes which js a protocol that is taught. Like an underwater SOS so they are alive as it wasn’t random banging

Which could mean that these sounds have probably stopped, indicating the people in the sub have died. If so, the admiral don't want this information to be released yet to the families of these unfortunate people who have died.

Of course he don’t they didn’t accept UK teams help in time which is capable of going to those depths and bringing it up. Now he got noise and little equipment for the job.
I imagine there will be lots on noise in the signal and it will take considerable expertise to tease it out to determine it there really is tapping from humans. Also as I'm commenting, the depth is in meters, to get a rough indication of depth in feet multiply by 3. Some commentators in other streams have assumed it was at 4000ft. It's more like 12,000ft.

150.000 people die everyday that nobody cares to safe, these people voluntarily put themselves in a dangerous situation and are costing time and money and risks to be rescued.
I want to add, did they factor the fact that the under ocean currents during this period of time were approx. 3.5-4mph, in the direction opposite the cold front that passed thru. Unless the sub got snagged in the wreck, it might have drifted 300-400 miles southwest of Titanic's site.

The Titanic wreck depth is 13,000 ft which has 5633 psi pressure on the sub. The sub is 22 ft long, 8 ft OD tube with 9 ft wide top deck. It's made of 5-inch reinforced fiberglass. From my rough calculation, the hoop stress (from circular external pressure) is 3,034 psi, while the axial stress (from longitudinal span external pressure) is 29,647 psi. The allowable tensile stress of reinforced fiberglass is around 11,458 psi, thus the tube will not collapse but the top deck will be bent (sacked) when its bottom sits on the sea floor. Therefore, it is possible when the descending operation went wrong it sank too fast to the sea floor, then the top deck bent like a banana damaging all the equipment and chambers. The sub may still resists water pressure but disabled and sits on the sea floor. face-fuchsia-wide-eyes🧐🤔🤨🙄😎

Unless they’ve already died. It’s a possibility that when contact was lost it was because the sub imploded or had a leak in which case due to the pressure, the passengers and crew would’ve died instantly.

I saw an interview with Stockton Rush from a few years ago where he mentions that it is imperative to have word from the ship above when they’re around 200metres from the seabed, so they can drop ballast and slow their decent. If communication was lost just before this point it could be possible that they crashed into the ocean floor and got stuck in mud, or even into the wreck itself.
I think it imploded suddenly due to a compromised hull, otherwise they’d still be able to communicate with the mothership.
That's quite a likely scenario but a horrible situation to rely on considering their known communication problems.
Notice how the admiral never gives a straight answer when asked if the sound heard was consistent or if it was a one off. I think he knows something we don't.
