How to get the best out of LR Baggs HiFi - tips and tricks

  • LR Baggs’ HiFi pick-up system is installed in our Masterworks, Laureate and Yairi Masterworks series guitars. To get the best out of it in a live situation, we’d recommend using an external EQ and certainly something with the ability to flip the phase to combat feedback. In the studio we plugged our GYM72ce into an LR Baggs DI box with just that functionality, and demonstrated why it’s essential if you’re amplifying any guitar through a speaker.

    Hey guys great video, thanks! A little tip on notching; notching actually works better than phase but for it to work properly you have to first identify the problematic frequency by turning up the frequency level and sweeping back and forth. Then when it feeds back the most, turn down that frequency and the whole signal becomes balanced and free from feedback. If your feedback is happening at 240hz for example and you turn down 125 hz it'll still feed back. The notch must be centered on the specific problem frequency. Hope that makes sense. Phase and notching should be used in tandem, begin by finding the most well behaved phase position and then apply a small notch to the worst feedback note. Then you should be able to use a pickup like this even with a loud band with little to no problems.

    I actually don't care for any pick-up system for guitars. I would rather have them recorded using just a high quality mic. But if I had to "plug in" for some reason, it would be with the ones from LR Bags. They mount under the bridge plate, instead of under the saddle. I hate under saddle pickups...lol...
    Very nice video.

    Great description of what the HiFi system will do. I love your videos. While you are Alvarez, you don't come across pushy, just very informative and entertaining as well.

    I’m really glad you did this video because I agree with you. So many videos, including Anderton’s, who should know better, plugged directly into a board and it sounds like a flock of ducks!
    Even the best pickup systems are meant to be played through an amp and speakers not direct into a mixing board. I have stage pro Anthem in my guitar and when I recorded my new CD we didn’t use the onboard pickup but a high-quality studio mic!
    But playing live through through my Fishman loudbox mini, the pick up system sounds incredible!

    Sounds fantastic. I have seen a few demos of the system on CZcams that just don’t sound right. No one seems to be posting details of their EQ or signal path.
    Can’t wait to put my hands on one of your guitars with the Hi-Fi. That LF70 in daybreak has my attention.

    Sounds great, guys! Bridge plate transducers always sound superior to under-saddle piezos, in my opinion. Thanks for all the info ~

    My opinion is I wouldn’t want a pickup system other than a K&K

      @scottmoreau5630 Před měsícem +1

      This is basically an eq’d k&k that’s less feedback prone, easier to install and remove and is active. I like the k&k but the glue is a turn off. That and the fact that it lacks high end and feeds back.

    Curse you LR Baggs for coming out with the Duet , now I have to choose... ha ha, I'm kidding of course. This system sounds great gentlemen. Having this system pre-installed is amazing.

    I'm a fan of your videos. However, here's a question. What effect, if any, does CZcams processing have on the sound of the videos?

    Wish Alvarez would sell the Laureate line of guitars with an option NOT to have a pickup in it . I rather install my own .
