This track came out after the release of, "The Search" Album in 2019. Nate's Album beat out Chance the Rapper's new Album that was released the same week for the number 1 spot. Apparently, the industry didn't like it and was like, "Who is this dude, NF?"
Fast forward, Rolling Stone and NYT wrote smear articles on NF, saying that all his music is depressive, sucks, and that he's a one trick pony that may be suicidal. This ticked him off, rightfully so. This track, "Paid My Dues" is a response to all the critics that shows how ill he is and that he has paid his dues.
The writer who wrote the Rolling Stone article is homies with Chance The Rapper and was pissed NF beat Chance on 1st week sales, so he wrote a HIT PIECE about NF. So NF wrote a song and broke peoples brains.
His name is Danny Schwartz. He writes for Rolling Stone.

The fact that the article that inspired NF's first mixtape, and what that means that Nate dropped songs that don;t fit into his perfectly curated album, but they're still amazing songs that people need to hear, and "Paid My Dues" is a very christian middle finger to the industry, and then Tech9 and "Trust", that was just Nate saying to the world, "I can RAP".

Paid my dues was a single but when the mixtape came out, nf attached paid my dues to it so technically paid my dues is part of the mixtape

This song was so hype in concert. He opened his concert with this song and came flying up from a platform under the stage and he landed right on the beat when it dropped. It was so cool! I saw him last Sept. It was so amazing!
I saw him at the first show of the tour in St. Louis. When he popped up with that "hello" I had goosebumps over my entire body I swear LOL.

Another NF fan told me that the guy who trashed NF in the article is friends with Chance the rapper and since NF beat him for the number 1 spot he retaliated against NF in that article. If you read it you will see there's no creative criticism just hate!!
There was an article where it talked about how The Search beat Chance the Rappers album (The Big Day) and how the article thought that The Search didn’t deserve to beat Chance the Rappers “The Big Day”. But it was a very biased article and it just threw hate at Nate.

I would do Lost next unless you missed some other video in the mini-journey. Lost is teased at the end of this song. The next release was going to be Lost but the whole album had to be delayed due to Covid. So, Nate released this song in the MixTape. I am pretty sure Hopson and Nate had Lost done shortly after this song.
