For me and where I'm at in my practice, this has been one of the most, if not The most helpful of Joseph's talks! I've been on the Path for more than 2 decades, and with Joseph's clear explanation of things, my understanding is growing to be clearer, deeper, more precise, and more vast. I feel at a loss for words to express my appreciation! I particularly benefitted from his explanation of directed awareness (attention on one object, like the breath) or choiceless awareness (open to whatever is arising in the moment); meditation is the inter-weaving of the two. "We get an intuitive feel when to be one pointed, when to open up, to TRUST the movement between the two. Concentration is developed through the continuous presence of well-established mindfulness." And the precise explanation of what the Buddha meant in his instruction "abide contemplating internally, externally, and both." I have received a very precious, valuable, incredible gift today, the Dharma! There can be no better gift! THANK YOU JOSEPH! and Insight Hour!! I am beyond grateful! __/\__

Does Intention, even for 'stillness', distract the mind from being in the moment?

Is Intention spontaneous, or is it of the mind?
