- First talk-show appearence for the promotion of Vanessa Carlton's debut album "Be Not Nobody". A full band performance of Carlton's inmense hit "A Thousand Miles". Released in 2001 as the first single of her career.
Ahmet Ertegün, the most legendary chairman of music bussiness, was the first who got interest on Carlton's talent after receiving a cassette tape in his office. Believe it or not.
You have no idea how hard it is to play piano and sing at the same time while keeping the tempo. Really impressive, I didn’t know she did her own piano work.
There’s a documentary on CZcams about it. It was almost entirely hers.
I was thinking the same thing. This was so much better than the original video.
The whole song is really hers..Ron Fair just polished it.
People always say that, but as a musician I in fact do know hard it is. 😁
@@brodriguez5057 Same, I was in a band back in the day (lead guitar) so I had some experience. Anyone I see playing an instrument while singing always impresses the hell out of me. It’s very, very difficult.
Clearly no auto tune, just authentic raw singing, very nice.
lip sync
@@johnboona4048 it isn't how can she do lipsync when the instruments are live itself?
@@tinlian8103 just have the recording go into the soundboard and out into the airwaves instead of the instruments, but probably wouldnt have been the case here. She can play her own stuff, this sounds different from the record version and boy if it was found she was lip synching... well, look at what happened to Mili Vanilli
Totally live. Anyone can tell the.difference
@@_BirdOfGoodOmen this would be the most pathetic lip syncing of all time because live or prerecorded it's really not that good lol
this song hits different when u dont hear it in 10 yrs
WTF , 20 HOURS AGO
Especially with KPOP
hey 07/07/21 :) spain
Classic - still sounds so good.
There are no words for the level of crush I had on her when I was a kid.
ditto.
Hahaha bruhh
Same here......... great time to be young and growing up
@@davidmatthews1710 agreed.
I get that! And I wasn't even a kid. When this song came out in 2001 she was in her early 20's and I was in my mid 20's. So there you go... LOL
This song has been memed really hard and it’s kind of a shame. It’s a really beautiful song.
people usually meme stuff cause they like it. Not surprised.
People who fell in love with this when it came out laugh at memes of this song, but fond memories and nostalgia drown out any humor memes bring.
This song was great way before meme came up. Trends will come and go but this song will always be remembered..as a b*tch to play in piano if you’re just a beginner.
It’s my favorite song and for some random reason I get offended by the memes maybe people who make memes target old songs idk
This song will always be my favourite, it connects me with my grandma who passed before I was born. I always feel her with me when listening to it,
Who’s watching during corona time?
Eyssd
Me ! Watchin also...am i going to recieve atleast relief goods.....kinda ran out.
Me

😂
Who's here January 2020 and still listening?
2020 from iraq :D
Found it looking for an acoustic guitar cover. January 2020
@@billpalmisano cool! look up Teddy Swims' version man. 😊
@@omariraqiman awesome.
2020 from indonesian
The Proclaimers walked 500 miles, and then 500 more, and then ran into Vanessa.
brilliant
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Underrated
After 20 years I still love this song! Beautiful ❤️
She sounds better live here than the recording. Wow!
That is what you call a true singer boi!
I saw this performance live one night after work I used to watch Conan every night oh the nostalgia....... this woman is definitely a rare talent
tu-st She's one of my favorite artists and I love this song
Pretty rare when the live performance is technically "better" than the studio version.... She lives that song when she's playing it.... and takes you there with her... she gets lost in the story...Then you get lost in your own thoughts.... That makes you want to hear it 1000 more times.....
I love the song and her fantastic talent.
1) She is gorgeous.
2) I love this song.
3) I wonder...was she nervous? Was this a big thing for her? What did it mean in her career? I remember this night--yeah, I'm that old. This was in that VC/Michelle Branch sweet spot when women were singer/songwriters and not just objects. She has immense talent and I wonder...
And Avril haha
she's not nervous. She's just a little camera shy
Oh yeah, she was absolutely nervous. And this was probably one of her first major appearances--only 20-something days after the single dropped and became a smash hit. Her vocals are notably tense and a little less accurate than what she's clearly capable of. Nonetheless an excellent performance, and totally endearing.
I think this is her first televised performance
I totally adore her voice and she's gorgeous!
She takes that girl next door thing to a whole new level.
She BI too. Can you image?
@@The.Original.Potatocakes nope she didn't look like a BI for me.
But how did you know??? Is that true???.
Vlare RetroCysper She came out during a Pride event in Nashville some years ago
@@RaymondJiang444 🙄 and it still didn't revive her 1 hit wonder career
@@Ervinabrahamian Lol, she's raking in that passive income from this song and doesn't have to get stalked by paparazzi. I think she nailed the perfect formula. Not everyone wants to be famous.
2024 im still here
I love it when musicians on the background were just kind of like having fun playing for somebody else and just rockin' their own instrument. I mean, they look like they're just havin' a good time regardless if they get credit or not.
They're all studio recording artists
they are now extinct lol
is that abe on drums? thanks
I will never forget when my school's morning show came on and they played only the instrumental to this song and everyone in class broke out singing this song it was great and magical moment that you only imagine in the films
Love! This song is truly a crowd favorite whether you really love it or love it bec of White Chicks. Vanessa even if this is her only hit should be so proud of her achievement. This is a classic that will be forever played on radio and would gain fans every generation
Had a moment like that myself on the bus riding back to the school after a football game we had won.
I was a Junior in High School and player offensive line.
Everyone was exhausted and half asleep but me.
I started off humming in a a band without instruments the opening to ZZ Top, La Grange.
Another guy, Russ Lee, had a pencil or two and started tapping the rhythm.
When the Bass line hit the entire team was doing it and Gregg Pruitt, Team Captain, hit the vocals.
It was awesome.
We were winners.
The 80's.
Lucky you
💕
This song takes me back to my early childhood years (this was the first song that I've ever heard and got stuck on to) that I'd always love to go back to but sadly I'll never get to go back to ever again.
same. I was 7 when I first heard this song. Now I'm 26 and life is getting sadder and sadder.
I LOVE THIS SONG. I MISS MY FRIEND AND HAVENT SEEN HIM FOR YEARS. THIS WAS OUR BEACH SONG! JACK THIS ONE IS FOR YOU!!
love this version, feels so different and more band-y feeling
Agreed
I remember the first time I heard this amazing song. It was this video back in 2002 when it originally aired. Such a timeless classic :hs:

Os caras tocam o fino da musica loucura
It can not get better than this ! Period !
Still listening in 2021
Awesome voice
I heard this song years ago. I never knew Vanessa played the keys. I would have paid more attention!
Heard this song thousand times when I was in Germany. It was encouraging in song in tough time.
So nervous and lovely but so talented! That piano goes right through me 20 years later just like the very first time I heard it.
Whats crazy is i think she even rushed the tempo from the original one and still nailed it 😳 Woman has insane talent😳👀👀🔥🔥🔥🔥
Immediately noticed that as well and I was scared about how will she keep up :D But she did flawlessly. Was probably a bit nervous, that usually causes rushing. Or was it intentional for some reason? Hell knows lol
My OCD demanded that I check exactly what happened - studio version is ~95 bpm, here they're going 100 bpm. At least at the start, then they seem to slow down a bit. Definitely sounds like more to me, probably because of the intense playing in the intro.
Would’ve been sped up for the time slot to get through the whole song in the segment time allotted for the show would say
Wish she was still writing and recording. Talented woman.
Man , I remember the day I first heard the song ! Very nostalgic !😁
I love this song very much! In 2002, my friends thought I was weid listening to her
Love that song
I really walked a thousand miles already. I already feel old. I first heard this in my highschool years back in the early 2000's.
I absolutely love her voice:)

Holy crap her voice sounds just like the studio recording amazing
Wow, for being live, she sounds Really good.
And playing piano at same time
Because artists were actually talented back then lol now it’s just all auto tuned rappers lol
Feel younger as always when i hear this song...great song

Mamma mia quanto tempo è passato da questa canzone, ma rimane sempre bella
This is the best piece of music I have ever seen!

The most beautiful voice and talent
This song still fucking slams.
First time i saw this version🖤💙💛
I remember every single highschool rom-com movie around early 2000’s had this song
Unbelievable talent. She's underrated.

Mesmerising. A timeless song already what an amazing voice she has
This woman is awesome! Great song an composition!!!
Beautiful ❤️🙏🦁🙏😇😂🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Man...what a throwback. Great song and performance, miss the old Conan.
She STILL makes my mouth WATER!!! ❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏
Yeah but she's got no ass
i dont play piano, but this looks really hard...
I learned it!!!
It's not as hard as it looks! A lot of her songs are fast but repetitive, so once you get the hook down it's not too hard. This is still one of my favorite songs to play :)
It is
It's actually not. Pop music is usually very repetitive in chords/notes, so it's easier to play compared to other genres
@@user-fs9vv6vm5j It looks easy, I learn The Year Of The Cat on 6 days.
2019 still listening 🙌🏻
I love this song....good times in the 2000's
Still my favorite song in 15 march 2020
2020 but still listening to this song
One of her best performances. Back when her heart was still in it.
Rare talent, and so beautiful!!
Someone once asked me, "If you had a time machine you could only use once, would you go back and try to right history's wrongs?" And I had to be honest and say, "You know man, nope. I want to go back to the night VC was on Conan and be in the audience. Because that was a perfect moment. And those things are rare. And I'm a selfish jerk."
Linda de mais, tanto a canção quando a cantora!!!!
I TOTALLY LOVE HER!!
15 anos já ♥ Linda demais ainda Talentosa :'( Saudades desse Tempo.
Wow... 2020 Covid 19 and this song still sounds great.
Great performance by the whole band. Really nailed that.....
I have this CD. I was living in Las Vegas, Nv.
That is pure talent right there! ❤️
I would've had a crush
If I saw this if I saw it earlier xdd
Anyone listening in March 2020?
