As an Australian it can be difficult to EDC a knife. I've resorted to carrying a little retractable scalpel blade keyring that is great for opening packages but useless for anything else.
I'm tempted to get a small blade to keep in my bag, just not sure it's worth the potential fines.

I also watch an EDC content creator who is based in the UK. He first opened my eyes to the many restrictive jurisdictions that have what I would consider "odd" laws about knives.
I suppose that Australia restricts fixed blade knives heavily, correct? I think a small fixed blade knife (about 3" blade or a little less) is so practical and not hard to carry.

@@nvrumi In my state NSW simple possession of an offensive object (pretty much anything that can be considered a weapon) in a public place is enough to get you a $4400 fine ($11000 if you are considered to be wielding it) unless you have a reasonable excuse. Carrying a small folding pocket knife that you claim is for eating would not be reasonable, but a butter knife in your lunchbox would be. The more rural an area is the more reasonable excuses there are, not as much in the suburbs or city.
The only reason I can carry my little retractable scalpel blade is because of it's complete uselessness. I do know people who risk it, but I just can't afford the fine.

Good thoughts! Thanks for sharing. It’s certainly a different ballgame outside the states.
