    I remember when Ships were loaded by the Longshoremen AKA Stevedores. After the shipping container revolution of the 1960s, the number of dockworkers required declined by over 90%.

    Easy to have cheap labor when safety standards cam be ignored. How many of these workers are going to pass on because of lung issues and cancer?

      It could be done... but it is a tall ask. It is not as easy to maintain that automation as you think. The weld sequence alone is critical on materials of that size. Regardless China has all the technology and ability to automate should they want to. They are the absolute king of price. Even if some of that price is state sponsored.

      They are cheap because they are used when containers are made they put dates on them They are only allowed to use the container for so long before it stops bringing used on ships. So they can sell them cheap as they already got their money's worth moving millions of items across the sea.

    Nice way to assemble the containers. I worked for a place up in SLC, UT. assembling shipping containers and some were made into mobile offices Got the job cause they said they were 9 months behind, After I started working there they had no more work within 3 weeks I not only caught them up but seemed I worked myself out of a job. But they kept telling me to come back every day to see if they had any work which was a 2 hour drive there and 2 hours back home. After another week of no pay and the long drive I told them just call me if they had work as paying for gas and not getting any pay don't work. I went and found another job a week later since they never called.

We did the design and installation ourself, but the steel structures themselves where manufatured in Estonia, Lativa, at about 1/4-1/3 of the cost in Norway. All the loal competition did the same, so there was no question. But it did not only had to do with cost, also delivery time, not enough enough prodution capacatiy locally

    Shipping containers have been around for longer than 50 years😂 On 17 May 1917, Louisville, Kentucky native[7] Benjamin Franklin "B. F." Fitch (1877-1956)launched commercial use of "demountable bodies" in Cincinnati, Ohio, which he had designed as transferable containers. In 1919, his system was extended to over 200 containers serving 21 railway stations with 14 freight trucks.

    When the fellow had his hand on the piece of metal and pushed that into the press and kept the hand there, I realized why the USA cannot compete. OSHA would have had a conniption fit. It is no wonder China can manufacture these so cheaply. Ah well, Africa will eventually take over these operations where there is even less feeling for workers. I feel this way and I'm not even a pro-union man. How many violations did you see?

    • @filanfyretracker
      @filanfyretracker Před 7 měsíci

      the lack of any ventilation over that welding would be a major one on the violations card. Also I dont think all those presses had whatever you call that system where both hands have to do something to make it work. Interlock sounds too non technical for that to be the answer.
      The west really cannot compete with China, Even the USA we have safety regulations and attempt to have clean air and desire rivers that do not self ignite or cause chemical burns if someone falls in. China, not so much. also their government sponsors a lot of these factories.
      I guess silver lining is there is no IP for them to steal in shipping containers, They are a big steel box not really any technology there.
