Just a note to clarify - eating these types of foods are not common in local culture. These things are eaten in some parts of Asia, but this street is really just for novelty. You can clearly see that the Chinese locals are very... surprised... to see me eating this.
This was just for fun, and because I love trying new things - no Chinese person I have ever met actually eats this! Unless on a dare. :D
yummy Chinese food.
Cause it's not delicious actually,we may try it once like u do for curious but it's not that delicious to eat
I am Chinese.Actually,we do do do do not to eat this kind of food.but few of people will.maybe 1%,even less.
Actually in rural areas is more common than some people think, but not this kind of bugs but bee larvae, wasps and silkworms are used as an ingredient. Also there's an increasing bug-eating industry for medicinal purpose.
You are 100percent right, hope everyone can know more truth about China
Justin Ty都是给老外看的。从没见过任何中国人吃。。。
For Chinese, definitely not!
Correct. Those freaking foods are catering freaking foreigners only.
The Chinese people just look at you and think what's the foreigner eating ?😅😅 so scared!
Yaping She Ew!

I'd never eat such scary bugs damn! Holy shit! Btw, I'm a southern Chinese
You got some sick shots! Awesome video, love the music track too
This was hilarious, I loved seeing the reactions
Yeah I agree, this video was so fun to watch and a good speed. I didn't even realize it had been 15 minutes when I finished watching it. I might be biased though because I'm in it haha
cool video
please what's d title of d song playing while y'all were eating those foods?
and Poppy is so funny you should do more videos together
All songs are always listed in the description! :)
You’re so brave! Because even Chinese are afraid to try eating the weird things !
Thanks for filming China! You showed a lot of good things of China. As a Chinese studying abroad, people that mostly haven't been to China always get crazy impression about China. Really Appreciate This!~
When I first traveled to China in 2007 to teach English for a year, one of my favorite actives quickly became taking a walk after dinner with friends and exploring the narrow lanes of the subtropical city we lived in.
With a couple of lamb or chicken skewers in hand, we were set to explore the city for the night. On our nightly walk to the river that ran through the city, we observed the people around us selling clothes from carts along the streets and students playing ping pong in a park.
Everyone was outside doing something (or nothing) and you felt like you were a part of it. One of the best things about China is that you can walk out of your door and everything and everyone is right there waiting for you.
As China continues to grow, more and more foreigners are choosing to travel, live, work, or do business in China. No matter what your reason for exploring this vibrant country, the below tips on how to get by during your first days will help give you the confidence to buy your ticket and go have fun in China.

Living in Beijing for 10 yrs and never saw a soul having those bugs and scorpians. You are brave!
What a feast. Even as a chinese, I have not tried many things ... I am glad you have an open mind.
Maybe it is the time for the Taiwanese to open their eyes to see the world outside.
@FootforThough I suggest you open your own channel to show and say whatever you have to say. You've made yourself a killjoy with bigoted, irrelevant comments on many of my favorite channels, particularly Travellight.
FoodforThought Unfortunately u r the one who got brain washed so hard m8, w/e u r taiwanese or not no one gives a fk. If we, the chinese people r living under the fear and control from communist party, like what u imagined, how can we not agree with u and not accepting ur 'truth'. Seriously u r so damn pathetic
FoodforThought luckily they not as "open-mind" as you (脑洞大开)
FoodforThought Another strange libtard lmao

I haven't been to Beijing although I am China-born in beautiful Guilin during the WW in 1944 when my medical father was assisting the Chinese Red Cross there - his family stayed briefly in Hong Kong before being recalled back to ' The City of Angel ', Bangkok. At the age of 12, he sent me back to HK for elementary & high school for 9 years - I was not a good student like Dad & could not be admitted into HKU, he had no choice but to send me to colleges in the US for another 5 years - 14 years of overseas education but could not write or read Chinese with the exception of my Chinese name (Lee Ping Lok in memory of Pingle, Guilin, Guangxi province) with my deepest regrets.
At 76+, I visited China many times to Kunming, Chengdu, Gongzong, Shenzhen, & my beloved Hong Kong - I am hoping to visit Beijing & Guilin in the near future. THANK YOU FOR ALL THE TRAVELINGS, JORDAN!
You are better than me. I grow up there, went there like thousands of times, never tried those insects. I am the fried chicken and milk tea type.
I love this video. Very fun to watch! You are so brave to try those food and poppy is so funny haha.
This is such a fun video! Your filming quality is crazy, and I love how brave you are to eat all that stuff! :P
Very hard to find a beautiful girl eating this food insect in this world !..........you have the respect girl !.............. 6:55
Respect indeed!
As a guy, I feel ashamed. I am 100% sure that I can never do that...
respect yep!
@Full Natty Vegan animals eat insects, how vegans feel about that
Some historical trivia about the temple you visited: it started off as the palace compound of Prince Yong of the Qing Dynasty from 1694 to 1722, when he was crowned as the emperor as Yongzheng upon his father's death. Because he was such a devout follower of Tibetan Buddhism, he converted this former residence of his into a lamasery to host renowned Buddhist monks and scholars from Tibet and Mongolia.
Oh great in one of our favorite cities we love Bejing. That was one of the best food tasting of funny stuff that we have seen it was a real great effort. Thanks girls a great job you too Colin stay safe and have a fantastic time
This video was amazing, I like the songs, and also see the reactions of everyone about tasting these type of food, my reaction was also the same hahahhaha!, love your videos Jordan:)

OH MY LORD! You guys are just having so much fun food tasting! It's so funny watching the locals stare at you as you chomp down on those scorpions and bugs! Like 'REALLY!' Very gusty, girl!
Awesome video! As someone who lived in Beijing for half my life, I've never tried those bugs before! Glad you are enjoying Beijing, look forward to more of your videos :)
if you like to keep fit, eat healthy, don't come to China. There are thousands of delicious foods with high calories every city, every little village. Every time I go to China, I gain 2-3kg within a month, I tried to control my mouth. Mission impossible.
哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈
China has countless good food 😭 miss everything so much
Lol
in china you do not need to say Chinese restaurant, you just say restaurant
😆😆😆
lmao
no mao bing for sure
That's like saying Mexican standoff in Mexico when a fight is about to break out. Totally pointless.
Yeah she is so dumb girl!
I love how you just know that it’s natural for someone to want a photo so you automatically put up the Peace sign 😂
I sure have some adventures waiting for me when I come to visit haha--great video Jordan! Props for trying all that crazy food, cause most people wouldn't have!
damn girl! you ate snakes, crickets, and scorpions!!! I feel like quitting my job some time soon and go running around the world with a camera just like you :)
awesome!! Having so much fun watching you eating all these food!!! Now I kind of regret havent tried them
Jordon your editing has gotten really good.
Jordan, We had so much fun watching your video ! Thank you
Not even see the full video, i hit like button when i see my 3 favorite parson you ,poppy & collin in one frame ...
This girl is so brave. As a Chinese I never tried these.
Omg I've been hanging out for you or Poppy to post a vid so it was an awesome surprise to see both of you together!! Looks like an epic trip! Hope you do more vids together 🙂
The closing credits at the end was a surprise. The way you were lit at 2:16 was really nice. Never, ever, leave home without that umbrella !
Awesome video!!! Kind of made us to want to try snake... Just kidding, we are with Poppy on the fear of snakes 😜 You 3 are hilarious together! So great working with you guys. Can't wait to see you again in Beijing or another amazing city in China 😀 #MyStoryInChina
Career China Definitely, I had such a great time! See you again soon!
As a youngster growing up in Hong Kong, I had snakes many times. It's really good. I still try to have snakes when I go back for visits. You should try it.
Hahaha
"will u try?"
The chinese at 11:00 "no no" and walk away.
As a Beijing citizen, for the first time in my life, I start to think of actually trying those insects after watched your video. It's a wried temptation that you gave me.
@11:21: that girl was like....what the heck is this? I can't even eat this shit. LOL
Collin Abroadcast brought me here!
You are bold, travel light! I am going to try those bugs when I go to Beijing next time.
Jordon and all, you are awesome! The square where you were dancing is actually the courtyard of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, also known as 东堂 or the East Church, as one of the major parish in the inner city (inside 2nd Ring Road). (You guessed it, there are also "南堂" (at Xuanwumen), "西堂" (at Xizhimen) and "北堂" (Xishuku)).
There used to be a wall protecting the courtyard, but since the area has become so popular with tourists, the government somehow convinced the church to take down the walls and have the courtyard or square open to the public 24 hours a day.
I'm really happy to see you and Poppy having a great time in Beijing. Enjoy your time at the English teaching project.
I spent a year studying Chinese in Beijing; I miss this city.
I do not understand why a lot of foreigners like eating bugs... I have never tasted those.. But why westerners like those bugs as food?
As a westerner from the United States, born & raised, let me speak for all Americans, hell, all western countries when I say we do NOT eat those kinds of food. You will NEVER find those bugs on any menu at any restaurant or at any western style grocery store. Now, understand that some people however as you can see from this video, there are a very small percentage of people who are brave enough to do such things but it's not an actual common thing as you implied in your statement.
@@theotherguysTOG In china, people can eat or sell all kind of food that laws allowed. And nobody will think something wrong when you eat bugs.of course they may feel terrible, but never think you shouldnt eat it. Because Chinese consist by people who live in different area.We have too much food culture .And we think others can eat some food they like . Food In video just provide for tourist which want to taste extreme food.thats no problem ,they can do it.
They like unique food i think
Because scorpions are very tasty🙃
Americans never eat bugs and I don’t think Europeans do either. Tourists in China eat them because they think Chinese people do
Its great that you tried a lot of different types of food, most people aren't too adventurous and miss out ! Keep up the great videos.
really like ur videos, so much fun. Can see u really put a lot of efforts on editing.
LMAO poppy looks soooo happy to be back in China ;)
FoodforThought Rare indeed, but it used to be more rare.
weird, why are there 2 million taiwan labors in shanghai and beijing ....
Frank z because taiwan is fucked up by themselves
Wow - that's are, usually they should be called "brainwashed", "paid", "threaten" to be happy.
真的不知道那些曾经在抗日战争中为了中华民族浴血奋战的国军战士,看到你这种个别台湾人连自己是中国人都不承认还诋毁中国的人会不会气的从棺材里跳出来
The locals are all in this big prank convincing tourist to eat the bugs and other weird stuff.
and hahaha on internet
I was in Shenzhen and lots of old people just danced in the evening. I think they do it so they can stay fit.
And the way you say " I don't know" is also funny.
I am a Chinese and I eat Chinese foods each day, but I have never eaten those kind of insects; however, I would like to try those fried scorpions one day, but not those fried small snakes, too gross lol.
Hey I had snakes before, but in soup, very tasty, from big snake, taste like fish.
@6:47 guy in orange shirt: look at that fool .... @6:56 locals: hey, check out this idiot foreign girl eating bugs ... @10:50 (l'o'l) Still I want to commend you for being so grounded and open minded, thanks for the vid!
DUDE. I'm Chinese and have been to China and Hong Kong like 8 times. I haven't even eaten like over half of these foods. I admire your adventurism and boldness so much! keep it up! love from your home country :) ✌🏽
yup, in KL night market we dont have street food of such too, purely novelty. had scorpion @ Wanfung last visit on a dare and survived 🤣
Dang how does she eat insects with a straight face? More brave than me I feel down.
watching your video from Chicago. I went to Yonghe lama temple in 2002 and tried scorpion in 2011. as a Chinese immigrant living in the US, I should have recorded some videos about real American life. it is boring here. almost no change for 10 years. in contract, China is a fun place. I probably go back to China once retired.
Then go back to China, enough Asians in the US already...
easier to make money in the US with advanced degrees and housing, food, education (received scholarship+tuition waiver+free flight ticket to Chicago years ago) and many things are relatively cheaper than China. I can't afford housing in Beijing and Shanghai as well as lots of competition from hard working peers. American are more laid back if don't go to Silicon Valley or Wall Street. you should go back to Russia or Poland or Africa. there will be less Asian there. if you are Native American, you can say that to anybody. if that was the case, I would say sorry for those guys killed your ancestors and sent you to Indian Reservation. LOL
because thats where you can relate to your people ...
Go to florida and experience the excitement
Eric Yang Not true as I live in the SF Bay Area and houses along the standard of living here is sky high. I heard that we are now even more expensive than New York.
Blogger, you can dance the square dance of Chinese aunt. It surprised me.😂
Is it just me or does it appear that a lot of the locals are also giving you crazy looks while eating the street food? hahaha thanks for sharing! I wanna go!
Of course they might not be locals.. don't know!
I am officially your fan now. Girl, you do have guts.
Actually, No local residents have this disgusting food .....it is only for TOURISTS …🤣
不能暴露,哈哈哈哈哈
Oh my god! You are so so so so brave😂😂😂I like you!! I never will eat that, don’t understand why we have such food, probably trying to get attractions😂😂😂
The Chinese, "haha , Fools.... eating shit we don't even eat"
Wow...shes such a good sport in eating the snake n bugs! ...😂😝🤕
no we don’t eat those
Yep you definitely found some crazy! So many great things to see in Beijing. Nice vid!
Thank you for your amazing videos! So clear n beautiful...so colorful n the culture..love, love it! 😚🤗
Brave girl!
I love you guys' dance haha
thank you for ur great video!I been there when I was a kid😂 lots of things must be different now
Hi Jordan. I really admire your guts to eat those stuffs. I watched all your China videos, and i love them all! Very good work. I am looking forward for more.
you’re my idol now haha
For the first time I enjoyed a video really excellent...Thanku Jordan for amazing videos
Looks like a fun time! Great editing and video. Plus you are a cutie!! Keep up the good work.
You are brave girl. I was born in Yunnan and studied/worked in Beijing for 9 years. I have never tried these, not even thought of doing so. But surely you had fun:)
Miss my hometown so much~ Beijing
Oh my!U r so brave!!!
Great video indeed, and for sure you tried some "bizarre food". As a local born in Beijing, however, I think we seldom go to those places nor eat those things. They are for tourists. But nice try, hope you enjoy your days in China, bon séjour.
I love the dancing part lol
Hi Jordan, love your videos about China.
I strongly believe in free speech but 'FoodforThought' has been peppering the comment section with stupid, groundless and hateful remarks about China/Chinese people. So if it's not to much to ask can you please delete those you see unfair/unfit.
THANK YOU!
Thank you. I don't get a chance to go through all of my CZcams comments, but he has been reported multiple times in the last month.
He has been banned from the channel.
Travellight Many thanks.
But old habits die hard so no doubt he'll use another account.
Thank you for showing real China to everyone
you are so brave!hahaha, the video is very funny!
*The reactions of the Chinese people watching foreigners play X-Factor are priceless!!!* The short girl really made this video, the tall girl was so boring. She was even more brave than the guy they were traveling with!! So lucky you got that roof vantage point. But, y'all really need to master Mandarin. That's why Food Ranger has millions of subs, he gets us really good useful information that we can use on our own travels and you can only do that by speaking to and learning from the natives.
U r my new hero girl!!!!!🦂️👧
Love u travel light... scorpion queen of Beijing
Jordan great video.. You tried that food WOOOOWW😖!!!
11:22 The girl's eyes could tell you, this food is not at all common in China LOL
My mouth is watering...
haha
6:03 The glass guy looking at you eating food is so funny. To be honest, even I am a Chinese I didn't have bravery to eat these thing.
Hi Jordan, which camera do you usually use for your videos? I'm looking to shoot some videos while I'm walking around. I'd like to get a good image quality but I don't what to be carrying a bulky camera.
By the way, your shots look amazing
come to chengdu and eat more fancy foods😜
xingyu feng spicy food 😬
Welcome to China ,you are so lovely :D
I’m Chinese and I love watching videos of foreigners come to my china and fall in love with my country. It’s makes me so proud to see people with different nationalities came here and feel absolutely safe and realize that China has developed so well. China is full of surprises due to our long history, rich culture and large landscape. I hope you come back again and again, fall in love with China again and again. Thank you for doing this vlog.
I'll never understand how people wake up early when they don't have to
WOW Your eyes wonderful!
The Chinese don't eat this BTW they just laughing on u

In some parts of China, those are normal food, you don't like because you don't know
No, that's not true. Those are NEVER normal food in any part of China.
Timeless D 云南的一部分人吃

worms and insects are better source of proteins intake than meats! very delicious ! in future fungi can produce better foods than meat from animals !
Hi guys, I'm from China. I didn't watch the entire video. Just a piece of kind advice. In the most touristy areas of big cities, MAYBE there is not a problem eating in the streets, but you still need to be carefull sometimes. Not all street food is clean in China, honestly. The street food that you often see a lot of Chinese people eat probably won't have problems. I myself am very careful with any food in the streets. When I was in China, I always ate in a restaurant, it's not too expensive anyway. Just make sure that you don't have a bad luck day and come across bad people selling unhealthy food, then it should be fine.
This food street in Beijing is designed just for foreigners or people from other part of China. and these food are not traditional Beijing food. 99% Chinese people in Beijing do not eat these bugs. I was born and grew up in Beijing.
For example,
1. foreigners should visit NiuJie(牛街) and visit the Muslin world in Beijing and try some unique Chinese Muslin food and feel how nice / friendly the Chinese Muslims are and see the multi-culture in this city.
2. visit NaiLaoWei(奶酪魏) in Niujie(牛街) and try some traditional Beijing Cheese.
3. visit BianYiFang(便宜坊) and try the best Beijing roast duck with a reasonable price (QuanJuDe is toooooo expensive and over priced).
4. visit Duyichu(都一处) and taste dumpling in Beijing style.
5. buy some desserts from DaoXiangCun(稻香村), a traditional Beijing bakery shop since 1773.
6. if you are ok with pig intestine, just go to XiaoChangChen(小肠陈).
7. visit Lao Ciqikou Douzhi Shop (老磁器口豆汁店)near the north gate of the Temple of Heaven and taste Douzhi(豆汁儿), the flavor is really unique .
There are lots of places you should visit other than THIS food street in Beijing. and at the end, Welcome to Beijing!
I like your videos, not only because you are so brave to try new things but also you show your respect to different cultures.
You guys stood in the middle of the way. It's not good
