  • Star broadcaster and disc jockey, Johnnie Walker relates memories and thoughts upon his time aboard Radio Caroline in the 1960s; as well as his part in the history of Pirate Radio.
Johnnie Walker is an esteemed Radio DJ, presenter, broadcaster and a household name, having enjoyed a hugely successful career including Swinging Radio England, Radio Caroline, BBC Radios 1 and 2 in the 60s, 70s and again from 1987 since; and local English stations too, including Wiltshire Radio, BBC GLR, and later BBC Essex.
He was interviewed here, in 2017, by Craig Greenslade, as part of a radio production, with John Barker, for Hospital Radio Chelmsford.

Remember listening to Johnny walker as a young teenager on his 9 to 12 show usually finishing with Percy Sledges 'warm and tender love'.To me these days will never be re lived and as JW said so many things happened in a relatively short space of time considering the technology that was available then.Pirate radio was the only source of 'new genres of music available to the British public.SOUL ,BLUES,MOTOWN AND SKA would not have existed for about another 6 years if left for the BBC to promote it .

Johnny remarked elsewhere that the records played on the station was 'One from the playlist and from not....' If only that were the case now.
