If I had $1 for every time I’ve said this I would be retired; it’s the culture and PEER pressure, parents can be the best parents in the World, you drop your family into the Chicago hoods and their peers and the CULTURE will play more of a role in how they end up rather than their home life.
If your parents aren’t on section 8 that’s on them the it’s not like the south side is cheap you can move out into a different place by the city or even out of state and still be 45 minutes away from the south side with traffic. They don’t wanna leave bc they feel like that’s the only place they can survive yet is basically a war zone get the kids out while you can. Even if that means leaving your family or getting a new job it’s not worth loosing a kid or kids over where you live.
