I have two GXC-46D decks, which are older. I noted that the transport/head assembly between the two are very similar. Good use of photography here, thanks for the upload!
I opened the deck and found that is absolutely new in the interior. I feel like it was produced 1 week ago, but my father have it from late 1975 and used daily until 1983 then bought a new GX-F25. This one was used light then until 1986 when rubber belts failed. In 1987 or 1988 belt replaced with new onece prepered for sale. But then came 1990 when Romania changed comunism to capitalism and allot of new modern audio decks can be found. So GXC-39D go to preservation until 2020 when I found it and used a bit but after a time this left channel loss defect came. So I found the falult in playback/recording switches oxidation. After I play a bit with hands all work again. What to use to clean those contacts? Can I use contact spray? PS: I check my motor capacitor and looks new but was produced in 1975-10.
If I'm not mistaken the GXC-39D does not have a formal back tension pad to create the light drag? It's the same on my GXC-46D, although now I have fixed that by cutting a series of circular felt pads which are under the supply spool. This creates a very soft drag, just enough friction to 'tension' the tape on the supply side. There was a reason why I did this - I noticed a discernible azimuth shift from time to time with headphones. The extra and very slight drag cured the problem. Play, FF, RW unaffected.
Hi I am Gabriel from Romania. I have same device Akai GXC-39D. And sometimes in play on left channel signal go down, otherwise signal go up and hear on left chanel a pich sound. Same is display on left vu-meter no signal or maxim signal. Can be play/recording switches or some caps? I saw in this video when you play with that switch that signal go to max on vu-meter. Thank you in advance for your advice. PS: I have service manual, but can't find here someone to try to repair the deck.
I got an AKAI GXC 41D, when I play It work normally the first 5 minutes, then playback start losing speed. Any other mechanism work well. I got it for free yesterday. What could I do?

You need to deoxit the record play switches

@@THEtechknightwhich new capacitor should I get for It?
@@mattiabelgio7854 I couldnt tell you. Youll have to open the unit, service it yourself and see what value you need so you can get the right one.
