They didn't retcon that human Nobodies in KH actually did have hearts. It was explained that if a Nobody went without a heart for long enough, they'd eventually develop a new one to replace what they lost. Xemnas lied to the Organization and told them that Kingdom Hearts was the only way for them to be whole again, because he planned to turn them all into vessels.

When I was a kid, I misread "dungeness crab" as "dungless crab". From this I extrapolated that all other crabs sold for food were full of crab poo. I didn't eat crab for ages due to this misconception.

I get why people just dont understand or like Kingdom Hearts. But what really sold it for me was Roxas's tragic story. 358/2 came out AFTER 2, you had to wait 4 years to learn how fucking tragic of a short life Roxas had. His prologue in 2 was just a taste.

Supposedly keeping those machines clean and sanitized is such a time intensive process, and every restaurant I've ever been to is just barely staffed enough to function as is, that they just don't run them at all.

So despite the fact that I'm bored out of my mind when it comes to discussions about the poor storytelling of KH games (I've been in this fandom for so long so I've seen it all), I do have one thing to say.
For me personally, what had me fall out of love for later games in the series isn't honestly how much worse the storytelling became. Let's be honest, the storytelling has never been good, even with the first game. But what originally drew me into the series despite the flaw storytelling has been the atmosphere of the games that comes from the enigma and mystery of the universe that KH is set in. It seems odd to think about considering we're talking about a series that is basically fanfiction, but they did present the universe in the early games full of vast possibilities but all full of seemingly unending questions as well (plus Yoko Shimomura's music was excellent in capturing that feeling). But evidently, the direction they took with that, which I feel really started after KH2, was to try and make sure they answer all of those questions and mysteries they laid out, which combine with how convoluted those journeys to those answers ended up being, are I find to be a very uninteresting way to handle such concepts (at least with how they handled them).
Considering you can find enjoyment in bad stories, such things rarely gets me to dislike a story. Rather it's disappointing and/or offensive stories is what can get me to dislike a story. KH is definitely on the disappointing end for me, but I still love the first three games. But ended up dropping 358/2 Days, BBS, and DDD and never made the effort since then to try and get back into the later games. 358/2 Days would have probably been the one game I enjoyed the story for, but the gameplay... yeah. lol
