    My first job was XPO logistics and they had a 9000 dollar sign on bonus. This is true... if a company has a sign on bonus... it's because they suck. If it's a large bonus like XPOs, it's because they suck more. Don't fall for it like I did. If you quit there after they gave it to you, you'll be paying it back so remember that.

    • @classicxl
      @classicxl Před rokem

      I was thinking about applying to xpo here in toronto. what makes them a bad company they pay experience guys $32 a hr here

    • @nathanswanson21
      @nathanswanson21 Před rokem

      @@classicxl that's great money compared to when I applied. It was $22ish. You load and unload your own trailers, you drive the truck (obviously) you unload the freight for the customers most of the time.
      On the linehaul side of things, your trailers are loaded at night when you get to work, you drive to your destination which normally takes a few hours. You use a scanner gun and unload your trailers the load two more trailers to take back with you.
      They call them "Mobile Dockworkers"
      EDIT: this is just from my experience with the company at the location I worked at. Everyone has different experiences

  • @jryank22
    @jryank22 Před rokem +30

    As a company driver, I get paid load percentage and it's much more than I was making on mileage pay. Our freight rates are up too but I pull a pneumatic. When you have a specialized trailer which requires specialized equipment installed on the power unit then you have little competition when dry van, reefer, and flatbed freight starts to dry up. Most of my loads go to either water treatment plants, feed mills, and power generation stations. Regardless of the economy, people need water, food, and electricity. It's nearly a recession proof line of freight.

    • @yeshuathechrist5213
      @yeshuathechrist5213 Před rokem

      Wrong food shortage diesel shortage and an energy crisis, you are far from recession proof

    • @jryank22
      @jryank22 Před rokem +2

      Maybe a shortage of certain types of food, especially when it involves grain coming from overseas. I take ingredients to feed mills that make chicken feed and there's been no decrease in demand. I take bulk goods to water treatment plants such as salt and carbon, there's no decrease in demand there. I take bulk goods to nuclear power plants, the only decrease in demand is the seasonal decrease from people not using their A/C as much during the cooler temperatures. The only diesel involved in any of this is the diesel consumed by my truck. We have bumped up our rates while the rest of the industry is seeing a decline. We don't have freight brokers like you would running produce or frozen. I've done dry van and I've done reefer, dry bulk is not the same. There might be a decline in demand for things like cement or plastic pellets but I don't haul those, so I wouldn't know. I have yet, in the last 19 months of doing this job, have ever had to wait on a load. I'm off for the weekend and I know my next three loads coming up for next week. I always know my next load before I empty out on the previous one. To put things in perspective for you, a few weeks ago I ran a load of salt out of Cape Canaveral that paid $4.70 per mile. Meanwhile the reefers were complaining that they could only get $1 per mile leaving Florida so they were going to deadhead to Georgia.

My pay since I started here six months ago has been more than most hourly drivers in my area. In fact, I am making as much as most OTR drivers, and I am home every night. Component >>>> straight mileage
    You hooked it, you dropped it, you waited for it to be loaded and unloaded. You should be getting paid for these things instead of essentially working for free performing the portions of the job where the wheels ain't turning.
    It's honestly one of those things I appreciate about working for Frito-Lay right abouts now... $37.50 single D&H ($46 for doubles), $0.67/mi single ($0.69 for doubles), average of $0.09/case unloaded (average 2,000 cases per load), up to 6 days of work per week depending on how you bid followed by a 34 hour reset, home pretty much daily with company paid hotel stays when layovers are required. Average driver in this fleet makes $140k/yr, with the total range being expanded by +/-$30k

  • @TylerWall
    @TylerWall Před rokem

    Flat rates are when you don't care about performance. If you are a driver that just wants to make a basic income then go for flat rates. If you are wanting to make lots of money as fast as you can then you go for the performance based ads. At the end of the day your flat rates will top out much faster for same amount of miles whereas you can make much more money with the performance based position.
    Also you have to ask yourself WHY jobs get posted that are performance based vs flat rate. Both are different approaches for different results. Be wary of flat rate ads because the company likely has a high turnover, as a driver you should always ask "what is your monthly turnover % of drivers?" This will be an indication of a) how the company treats drivers b) types of drivers that work at the company. Another great question is to be able to talk to their top 3 drivers and ask them how it is to work at the company, follow that up with what they get paid on an annual basis. I guarantee you that the performance based company will be paying their top 3 drivers 20-30K more a year.
    So in the end having it is best to really approach these types of things with an analytical mind and ask the "why?" questions instead of just calling one way of doing something BS.

    Hello Ronen and team see if you can make a video to bring more light to a bill that is in the U.S. senate as of september 13 2022, it would ammend the fair labor standards act of 1938, S. 4823 basically it would remove the overtime wage exemption for certain employees and other purposes by putting in place over time pay for truck drivers including OTR drivers. Im not sure how true this next part is, but my guess as to why they say "up to XX¢-per-mile" is cuz its dependant how 1) how long youve been driving a Truck&Trailer, & 2) how clean your (commercial-) driving record is...? 🤷🏽‍♂️ Like i said, i dont know if thats the case or not, but a company i used to work for used that "up to $xx/hour" tactic when i was a sales-manager

    According to the Labor Secretary, California’s AB-5 law is going to be implemented nationwide. So there will not be anymore leased owner operators. There will only be company drivers and Independents like me. Also there’s bi-partisan legislation in Washington that is going to repeal the trucker exemption in the Fair Labor Act so trucking companies are going to have to start paying time and a half after 40 hours of work. It’s about time on both subjects!! So tired of seeing these companies get rich ripping off their owner operators and drivers. ✌️

    💖💖💖I know a CZcamsr 💖💖💖 Goes by the name Trucking Exec He doesn’t do CZcams anymore because he went to federal prison and he was scamming millions of dollars ( Well that is what the internet is saying ) but the content is still up CZcams took down his first CZcams channel years ago and he was like you in ways but if you don’t know of his content check it out because you can get a few more pointers on your own CZcams channel and you would sound good telling people in your own words because people are watching you and you know what you are talking about I can hear it in you 💖💖💖

    I love the new scam for these companies. You can gross up 10 to 15000 gross a week. . In today market your running 3500 to 4200 miles a week. Most of these companies see using broker freight not direct freight. .low to no fuel discount but you use there fuel card. . The tell you they only take 15 percent. The broker got another 20 percent before you get the load. Buy the time you see your check your getting 50 percent of your check is gone. . If you're going to lease on to a company first see if they have direct freight customers. The company I am leased to does everything from drive away to heavy hual. 200 plus agents I can use any load board. Great fuell insurance parts discounts. Same day pay. We also have a load board. I done loads from 2.25 to 4.46 a mile that's to the truck for the first two week of the year had the weekend off left the house on the 2 will finish my run on the 13 and made a 1000 dollars a day to the truck this is on a flatbed and less then 5500 miles for the two weeks . Last year I avg 525 dollars a day and only worked 8 months but got payed for every day of the year.

    Gross pay is acceptable if company can squeeze some juice out of that sh!t market?
    I got 30% and my week average rates are 2.50-3.20 for last month (October 2022). That means I got paid $0.85-1.10 per mile and netted $13575 @14500 miles

      And I think market won’t go much lower than now, so there’s a hope that sometime I’ll get back to 1.00-1.20 per mile again. For last year my absolute record pay load was $3900 for 520 miles, which brought me $1170 in a single day 🎉
