I looked into Mountain House it is CRAZYYY EXPENSIVE!! $1714.30 dollars for 3 months supply of food on sale from $2449.00. You could buy one years worth of food from the grocery store for that money with better nutritional value.

I love mountain house no doubt its the best tasteing and includes meat ....but yes its one of the most expensive options...There are much cheaper options like My Patriot Supply ( prepwithpilotpatriot.com )
But also keep in mind youre are paying for freeze-dried food thats going to last 30 years....of course you can buy food from the grocery store cheaper but is it going to be there when you need it?

Nice video. Though a real bummer how you actually mentioned calorie counts yet did not give us any numbers. I have looked at some of these survival food companies selling for example "one month food supplies" only to discover that based on the minimum calories you would need to survive each day they would last literally 7, 8, 9 days at best. BEWARE!

I’ve found “civilian” MREs tend to be worse than military MREs. They tend to taste worse and just are not packaged as well. Military MREs can get boring as I find all the chicken and beef MREs taste very similar and after a couple of weeks you will get bored of eating them.

Super review about the overall concept of food storage, I loved the video!! I'd just like to mention an alternative to all the name brand freeze dried companies you've mentioned (and NOTHING wrong with their products by the way) would be to purchase from the Church of Latter Day Saints, ie The Mormon Church. Their belief is that everyone should have a large personal food storage for unknown times. They sell to the general public from their local canneries (# 10 cans) located throughout the USA and Canada. I'm not LDS, but I highly recommend checking them out. I've comparison priced their products to some on this video, and they're 1-3x less expensive. Just a thought fellow preppers!!! Again, nothing against the companies mentioned and reviewed here by Pilot Patriot, but the LDS folks have much cheaper alternatives. Thanks for the vids Pilot, and I can link a website for the Mormon stores if you'd like. Peace brother!!!

Great video. This is very similar to my own preparations so it's nice to see others kind of reinforcing the mindset. Especially a fellow pilot 😁. The one thing that I never see, though, and would love to see because I don't know the answer is about the #10 cans. I don't have any of them. I have a lot of mountain house products (which I'm a big fan of) but none of the cans. EVERYONE reinforces that they stay good for up to 30 years. But NO ONE tells us how long they're good for once you pop open the can. How long do you have to eat the contents before you have to worry about it? There are a decent amount of servings in those cans, unlike the individual pouches. You're certainly not consuming the whole can in one go. I'm curious how long the cans are good for once opened. Thanks again and keep the blue side up!

I repackage them and glass jars with a seal and we have been using them for about a year and they still taste great. I think the key is just keeping them in an airtight container. Q
You're spending roughly $13 for 1 package of Mountain House that has 2 servings. Okay...so it's 2 meals in 1 day...and you had to skip 😮 a meal already. So, if you have a family of 4.
Now you just spent over $45 for 1 day, and 2 meals per person.
So if we go a basic of 10 days...$450.
They recommend 6 months to 1 year minimum. And some recommend 2 years.
      Think of the cost.
Think of where you are stashing this much food.
Remember Joseph had a 7 year worldwide famine to prep for.

Heat is going to affect shelf life of any food product. So you can definitely expect it to not last near as long as it normally would. But if you can at least keep it out of direct sunlight underneath the seat or something like that you can minimize that as much as possible.

Answer: Military MRE "1,300 calories per", heat with a drop of water. If its good enough for our troops its good enough for anyone. It's worth spending the extra $. Go to your local military surplus store. Currently my local stores have cases of 12 $75. What kids wont eat --> Storable food "expensive" usually taste like sht. Better off buying your own bulk rice, beans, oats & packaging it yourself. Add canned food and rotate them.

    • @PilotPatriot
      @PilotPatriot  Před 6 měsíci

MREs are a short term solution, shelf life 7 years VS 25+ years for freeze dried food.
Like I said in the video, MREs are great for quick and easy meal with few available resources (which is their application for military) they are perfect.
But if you wanna store something away for long term preparedness, they are not the best option.

I no expert on survival food, but I see that people are buying it. There seems to be a consensus that survival supplies are becoming more important. But nobody knows exactly which combination of survival gear is the best. As a result, people often buy the wrong equipment, or food, or gear.
There’s no reason that a husband and wife should have to do that research. It should be possible to sell a small trailer which has been pre-packed with supplies that were chosen by an expert. The trailer would have enough stuff to maintain a family of four. Water, food, a tent, a CB radio with batteries, a tiny generator. A flare gun with twenty flares. An axe and a saw. Sleeping bags and pajamas. A little wood stove. Matches and lighter fluid. Fishing poles. Solar panels with lights. Fish antibiotics. (Those are a type of penicillin which is legal to sell.) A good first aid kit. Rabbit snares. A bow with arrows. And fuel for the generator.
That’s not a complete list, but an experienced professional could do it. And then the Bug-Out Trailer could be sold at Costco for two thousand dollars. If there’s an emergency, a family can be on the road in ten minutes. There’s plenty of room in the countryside.

@@warrensteel9954 Good point. I guess it depends on the quality of the components, and the amount of stuff.
Perhaps they do a cheap one for five thousand. There’s a choice: To concentrate on food and water. Or to concentrate on gear.

@@ronliebermanneverything you have is only yours as long as you can hold onto it. A trailer like that would make you a huge target. The less you look like you have, the better.

@@warrensteel9954 Another good point! Maybe the trailer can be covered with a tarp to look inconspicuous. It would say “Joe’s Exterminating”.

I wanted to order the sampler pack of Valley Food Storage in order to test it out. I liked that it was pretty cheap to get a test run, but ran into problems. As I was ordering, their were multiple upsells that I wanted to avoid. I clicked decline on one and when I got to the next screen, I was met with yet another upsell. Though, this upsell didn't have an "Add this to your order" button. Instead, it said, "Complete this order." And, being late and just going through the motions, I didn't realize it was a different item. The pictures look the same so I just thought I was completing the order. No, I added another item and spent more money...
I was annoyed, but it happens. Within 10 minutes of placing the order I requested a cancellation cause it just didn't sit right with me and felt a little deceptive. No harm though. Just cancel and move on. No big deal. The rub, and why I am now posting on this video is cause I get told that I couldn't cancel because it already shipped and that in order to avoid charges I had to go through the hoops of denying delivery from DHL. So now I am annoyed that I not only couldn't just avoid this whole debacle, I have to also jump through hoops for it.
Just a terrible, deceptive, and hassle of a customer service experience. I'm sure that the food might be alright, but I don't want to find out. Good luck to anyone else who orders through them.
Try one of the others in this video for sure...

There are so many options I wouldn't get too committed to one brand. For me as far as taste, price, and ease of ordering I prefer either Mountain house or My Patriot Supply. Links in the description

@@PilotPatriot definitely go with his suggestions. I’m in a texting spat now with the owner I believe and it’s absolutely hilarious how this is going down. An utter crap show and I’m being gaslighted to all hell lmao I’ll be trying mountain house and Nutrition Survival once this is wrapped up.
