I have never been a reader but at the end of 2022 I decided to dedicate more time to that instead of scrolling social media and OMG so many of these are on my TBR list right now. I find thrillers and horror keep me more interested in reading and getting through it without getting bored. I'm reading Thirteen by Steve Cavanaghn and Brother by Ania Ahlborn is up next. I look forward to seeing more recommendations from you! I have so many I want to get through its hard to choose what is next.
So happy to hear you have been finding the time to read more! Your TBR will just keep getting bigger 😂
I love this video. I follow a lot of booktubers and you tend to see a lot of the same books being spoken about. You’ve put some different ones on my radar now, thank you ❤
I’m glad to give you some new recs!
I love how you manage to have a really cool and even mix of the known and popular books but then always manage to throw in some I missed on my radar.
The 1st line of The Grownup truly sets the tone and I also loved it 😂 That Adam Nevill book sounds really good, I'll have to check that out! Sounds like you had a great reading year!
Great list!! Added a lot of these to my TBR. I really enjoy how you do book lists. You give us just enough to peak my interest but not so much that it spoils anything. I think we have similar tastes and you really help me keep my enthusiasm for reading alive. Thank you Mandy and Happy New Year 🎉
Omg that makes me so happy to hear! Thank you. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! Wishing you a wonderful year ahead! Congrats on the Stephen King QT.
Sooo many still on my tbr but you're right it's not a competition and there's a whole new year ahead for reading haha. We need a Gillian Flynn-aissance.
Ive had alot of misses lately in the horror novel catagory so I'm happy to get into your recommendations and hopefully get an actually scary novel
Same here. Everything has been woke instead of horrific.
There are so many books on your list that I loved! No Exit, Gone to see the Riverman, Vessel, and more! I love thriller and horror books!
Awesome picks! I loved What Moved The Dead as well!
Thanks for some great recs! You've sold me on Below. It sounds like something I would like. I've had Misery in my TBR since forever. I think I'm almost afraid to read it at this point because of my crazy high expectations lol.
I think Misery will meet your expectations. If you like the film, you’ll really enjoy the book!
Great list, Mandy! My favorites for this year in order of reading are:
1. Dear Mr. M by Herman Koch. This is a weird book told through letters which slowly peel back the layers of a mystery concerning the narrator and Mr. M. I think the reason I liked it is the structure of the book and the uneasy feeling I got while reading it. It's definitely more of a suspense thriller with horrific elements.
2. Home Before Dark by Riley Sager. This is the second Sager book I've read. I was not a fan of Final Girls but Home Before Dark was recced by someone who also wasn't a fan of Final Girls and I am a sucker for Books within Books so I gave it a shot and am so glad I did.
3. Flipside by Leumas Llewtnac. This was a fun read about the aftermath of an alien invasion. I'm chomping at the bit for book 2.
4. Demon Theory by Stephen Graham Jones. Loved this one. Got it from the video you did on horror books about cursed films. Will probably re-read some time this year. I think you mentioned Video Palace in the same video and I also enjoyed that one which led me to a short story collection in the same vein called Final Cuts (edited by Ellen Datlow) also very good.
5. The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker. I finally got to cross this one off my tbr pile!
6. Ghost Eaters. Absolutely loved this one. Probably my number one pick for the year.
Looking forward to seeing what gems you uncover this year! Hope your new year is off to a great start!
I still need to read Demon Theory!
Such a great list of books some of which I've read. I want to read gone to see the river man and Adam neville. Happy new year🥳😊
I’m going to read the Vessel soon as I love Adam Nevill. You should definitely read Last Days by him, it’s fantastic. Also looking forward to Friendo lives!
Thats a strong list! No Exit was great, very atmospheric. And Misery surprised me, it jumped into my top 5 King books of all time
It’s so good!
A lot of interesting books. Great video.
I had so many good reads this year. My favorite was probably My Heart is a Chainsaw, so I'm really looking forward to the sequel. Just Like Home surprised me too. The scenes between the mother and daughter were uncomfortable on the level of the dinner table scene in Hereditary between the mother and son. Yikes.
I'm currently reading Queen of the Cicadas by V. Castro, which I would recommend if you haven't read it. I feel like you would enjoy it. Happy reading in 2023!
Omg yes the dinner scene in Hereditary is the perfect comparison!
Great list! The Vessel was so good!
Thank you for the list! I have some free time while I'm in between semesters for college and I love reading. I needed new material! Also, I love your flannel shirt! Where did you get it from?
Old Navy!
showing your talents first is so cute of you! ( would like to see more...
Happy new year lady so cool about Stephen King have you ever read Fire starter? Got it for Christmas!
Love Riley Sager! Read three of his books. Still need to read his newest novel!
Wow congrats for the King tweet 🙂
I read Misery this year. It was so well written!
Read some books by Ste😅phen King. My favorite is Salem's Lot .
Read The Shining this past year. Seen movie many times .
Fantastic and amazing video love it and love you and your amazing channel and totally love the way you describe the amazing book Misery love your family friend and number one Aussie friend John ❤❤❤
I'm gonna have to check out the books some sounded excellent.I got Fairy Tale for christmas, good so far.
Based on this list I highly recommend Earthlings by Sayaka Murata
In the Tall Grass by King and Hill (if you haven't gotten to it)
and Sundial (I saw someone beat me to that one)
I love coming to you for new recommendations! I have a list of books & movies to watch because of you! Appreciate all the work you do & the recommendations you give! 💜
Thank you! I’m so glad to hear that :)
What an amazing compliment from the man himself!
WOW The King himself! So cool. I am jealous.
Ed gein was more of a grave robber then anything. You’re right. He commuted one murder and the victim was still there when the police arrived. But all of the other ‘mementos’ were made from corpses stolen out of the cemetery.
i loved no exit, finished it in like 3 hours or smth. i recommend it to everyone now
Surprisingly the book that I liked and enjoyed the most this year was my summer read "The Island" by Adrian McKinty.
Hi Azuul,
I loved The Island last year. Loved it!It would make a great movie!
A friend of mine that likes Stephan king also said to start with Carrie but his favorite book is the stand
Few months late, but the one called The Vessel sounds of interest to me.
I recently read No Exit by Taylor Adams in February. Finished in a few days
Very hard to put down
Yes, I finished this in a couple days last year. Read Hairpin Bridge this year and enjoyed it. Have you read Eyeshot that he wrote?
Not sure if this is up your alley but I want it to recommend Micro by Michael Crichton. I'd say it's more of an adventure than a horror but it had some scary ideas in there that I think you would appreciate. It was pretty much, Honey, I shrunk ourselves, but with far more serious consequences.
They actually made a movie to this book, it’s really good I would deff recommend watching it 👍🏼
curious if you read Fairy Tale by SK?
sundial and little eve, both by catriona ward. she writes great warped family dynamics and these are no exception.
oh and fairy tale by stephen king was an outstanding read.
I have both Sundial and Little Eve on my shelf! I’ve also heard great things about Fairy Tale.
Have you read My Friend Dahmer? A graphic novel that helps you understand his life before killing. It’s so good.
Definitely go read Poe.
2:39 whoah!!!!
I am a slow reader but when I read dark matter I flew through it. Lol . ❤😊
I see Harvest Home behind you, seen the movie?
Not yet! I wanna read the book first
What is your favorite home invasion book?
I don’t think I have one
I totally see why people criticize The Grownup and this book definitely has many flaws, but it’s just so funny 😂
Reception had my least favorite twist in the world. It made me so mad I gave it one star 😅.
dark matter ❤❤❤❤
Oh no ... Gone to See the River Man was a 1 star for me 😬.
Oh wow!
You’re hotter than lava!
Never include King...
I loved the Eddie Gein book.
