- River Mula and Mutha are very important rivers passing through the centre of Pune city bifurcating the PMC and PCMC areas. The twin cities are experiencing heavy urbanization for the past few decades which has created pressure on these rivers.

The rivers have become largely inaccessible from the city and are no longer seen as assets to the city. The city has turned its back on these rivers. In order to cope with these current issues and create a meaningful public realm along the rivers, Pune Municipal Corporation has instigated a comprehensive project - Mula, Mutha and Mula-Mutha Riverfront Development Project in the entire Pune Municipal corporation area.
Pune's Rivers have been degraded over time. This is due to a number of factors:
Urbanization along the river - Heavy urbanization in PMC and PCMC areas over the past few decades has led to haphazard urban development along the river. At some locations, the development extends right up to the edge of the river.
Construction of Dams - The Mutha and Mula Rivers in Pune have dams in their upstream, controlling the discharge of water into them. Presently, the dams have stopped the flow of water into the rivers, keeping them dry.
Release of untreated sewage - Significant Number of Naalas and piped outfalls discharge untreated sewage directly into the rivers, converting the river into a polluted 'drain'.
Lack of Access - Pune's rivers are not easily accessible. In the areas that are already developed, there are very few points where one can approach the Rivers. While along most of its length, the banks are lined by private properties making the River inaccessible for citizens.
Poor connectivity across the banks - results in the river becoming a barrier that divides the city. All of the above has over a period of time transformed a beautiful river into a polluted drain that the city has turned its back to.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has proposed to cut down 2,600 trees and transplant 2,694 trees for the Rs 5,000-crore Mula-Mutha RFD project.
The PMC claims that the trees are hindering the project's development and that it needs to remove them to complete the project successfully.
Environmentalists and green activists have criticised the PMC's proposal, saying that it is cruel and will lead to the destruction of an ecosystem. They also pointed out the risks involved in transplanting trees and the low survival rate of transplanted trees.
The PMC has gone back on its word as it had earlier promised not to harm any trees in the RFD project, according to environmentalist Sarang Yadwadkar.
Transplantation is not a feasible option as the native trees grown in that area only survive in Mediterranean zones, and transplanting them to other areas would not be successful.
PMC executive engineer BD Mashale admits that only 75% of transplanted trees survive and have slow growth, and 25% of them die due to failure to adapt to new environments or getting infected with diseases.
The PMC plans to plant new trees in the vacated areas of the embankment, but it is unclear whether they can match the ecological value of the existing trees.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this mistake.
1. Many Punekars feel that this project will reduce traffic problems, but that is not entirely true because the project does not involve building any new roads that would facilitate vehicular movement.
2.Many people believe that this project will completely clean the Mula-Mutha River, but that is not entirely true because the project does not include plans to install a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP).
3. Many developers who are developing around this river are spreading various rumors. For example, they claim that this project will extend all the way to Manjari and create a river-side road, but that is not true. The project is only being built between Sangam Wadi and Mundhwa, a distance of 9 km, and if successful, it may be extended further.
Ahmedabad riverfront is the best project as they have cleaned sabarmati river along with the riverfront development..
Check Sabarmati beyond Vasana Barrage
Very much
Sabarmati is the most polluted river in the country. Pl google
Sabarmati will become a drain
This project is very much needed. We should not rush for record timelines but focus on long term quality and design so that it lasts 50 years
No, it's not, it very bad for the environment. 7000 trees will he cut, and the river system will be destroyed...
@@shriyushoswal5227 as long as the river is clean and the riverfront is good its ok trees can be planted
Cutting trees from the riverbank and planting double the no of trees on some far away hill will not work because there is an entire river ecosystem around these riparian trees on riverbank
Replacing these trees with concrete promonades and planting one tree every 10 mts is nothing but a stunt and it will kill the 100% of the biodiversity that exists today
Please see the below video for a brief introduction on riparian vegetation

Developing roads and gardens for cycling and walking beside a dirty river is like building a beautiful house on a foundation of sand. It's essential for the government to prioritize the cleanliness of the river to ensure the health and well-being of the community and the environment. #CleanRiver
It will also help cleaning of river because when they build STP on one side people keep throwing sewage from the other side. So it will prevent people from throwing sewage. And also STP has been approved and given loan by JICA.
Exact, clean first beautify later
Atleast PMC started thinking about the beautification of Pune. This definitely needs to extend to clean rivers and also include other parts of Mula-Mutha River. Wherever there is population it should be extended. But atleast they started
7000 trees will be cut, it will be very bad for the environment
@@shriyushoswal5227 Please see the video. They are planting more trees
@@avinashincredible Cleaning of river should be the priority not beautifying it. Whats the use of beautification if there will be mosquitoes menace and foul smell? Who will seat there? How it will be accessible in rainy season. In stead they should have just cleaned river by setting up more STP’s and should have diverted fund to create more garden and public spaces all across Pune. 5000 crore rupees is huge amount for this project, high level of corruption is on the way. Broadening of roads, building flyovers and ring road should be priority to curb air pollution. Look at the AQI of Pune for last 3 months, Pune is becoming New Delhi in terms of air pollution. A lot of roads could have built and tree’s could have be planted in open space with such a huge funding.
@@7001nikhil that I agree and already said

The priority must be cleaning the river first. Waste of time and money right now.
Clean first, beutify later
But here they are doing reverse
Does the 9 km stretch of Riverfront include Kharadi ( like Riverdales projects)
Sir please make a video on Galaxy One, Eon IT Park. Why there is no economic activity here. What went wrong with this project? Thanks in advance.

No response to an educated, discerning and critical thinking viewer indicates the shallow understanding of of the CZcamsr about ecological and Social Justice impacts.
Thank you so much🙏
Pl Think Of Nasik Goda Park Project ?
जय श्री राम धन्यवाद ❤❤❤
The person here has given wrong information. The riverfront project will stop all outflow of direct sewage in the river. The project will also provide 12 new STP along the river and two at the start of the project. Old sewage pipes will be diverted to the nearest STP.
Without sevar plant planning they started river front project wah kya planning hain
Clearly, the nouveau riche loves the glitzy visuals as they match the Western world look and feel.
Climate deniers abound too.
So this is a tricky issue to explain. People fall for the marketed glamour and don't want to engage deeply. Raising awareness now is very important!
As a child, even I used to be mesmerized by the Jetson image of the world with no flora and fauna but just tall buildings, multilevel flyovers, and flying taxis all around.
Then over time I really learnt the value of ecology protection. Hope others will too.
As our youth in FFF remind us "There's no second earth"
Thank you Saudaghar team for this , please bring us updates every 3 months on this as pmc doesnt provide any update. also river transport can be explored on the mula mula on the lines of water metro of kerala , it can hugely benefit the city pollution and traffic , if services are brought people from karve nagar can easily travel till kharadi on a water taxi beating pollution
It's a daydream, why cut 7000 trees and harm the environment
@@shriyushoswal5227 pmc in its DPR said no trees will be cut not sure why they are cutting it ,

Shivne se kharadi river side road hi ne wala Tha uska kya huva
Archana ji, Yah Pichhle kai salon se ruka hai. Jab bhi ispar koi naya update ayega bilkul aplogo tak detail video le aayenge🙏🏼
I think with this project the shivne kharadi river side project is dumped.
Thank you SaudaGhar for featuring this project and giving a balanced view.
I am sure cycle track space will be occupied by hawkers and the general public will also welcome that. Most Punekars are interested in only filling their stomachs and not cycle tyres. The guards and Municipal babus will get their Haftas in abundance. People will throw plastic carry bags into the river.
Beautification is good idea, but maintenance is more important. Water treatment plants at every 3-4 km stretch is important.
Boating will enhance the charm. Launches with double-decks with wine and dine facilities will be fun. A glittering night ride on Launches will be wonderful and Municipality can earn good money too.
Adequate care of marine animals should be taken.
River cleaning will be must through STP
Flats ke sath sath plots, NA, R Zone plots ki bhi vedio banaye...
All pune location ka
Pune Muncipal corporations have an annual budget of ₹10000 crores allocated every year , but they won't invest in STPs, correct methods for garbage disposal . We have 5 rivers flowing from the city and it is full of sewage. We are severely short of treatment plants and whatever STPs exists are not functional. The river smells like a gutter but Mr. Bimal Shah will be asked to decorate the riverbank by cutting age old trees, plant decroative one's, and rent the reclaimed floodplains to bhel puri and chai shops.
The focus is noton cleaning the river but on real estate development. They have reduced the width of the river by 40% only to reclaim the riverbanks and earn revenue by letting it out on rent. Plus there is builder lobby which will get into action to redevelop the old buildings overlooking the riverfront, another revenue generation via FSI. All that shines is not gold.
What is the maintenance cost for 5000Cr ₹ project ?
Who will pay gor it ?
Please can you expose the issue on Riverside road to Godrej and VTP township we have been told you are Channel Partner for godrej and since you were not paid your earlier dues you made the previous video on the riverside road to demean them..is it true if not Can you bring this up.
Rohit Ji, We appreciate your comment and would like to address your concerns. Our last video on Riverside Road was to highlight the condition of the road and make viewers aware of the situation. Since then, we have not observed any new stretch being added, only maintenance being done on the existing road.
Regarding your comment about Godrej and VTP, we are not puppet of any builder, developer or Promoter. We cover real estate issues and topics that are of interest to our viewers. It is the responsibility of buyers to verify any information conveyed by builders or brokers. If VTP has told you something about the road, we suggest that you ask them why the road behind Yoo Villa has not been connected yet.
We would like to clarify that no builder can pay us to make any kind of video. We cover issues that are important to our viewers and always present the reality with proper proof. We believe in speaking the truth about what we observe and experience.
@@SaudaGhar Thanks for the clarification hope to see your new update video on the same which migh help lot of buyers
Sure, Rohit Ji. If there are any new updates on this matter, we will definitely cover it in a fresh video.
We want this project to complete fast. ☺
This project will go same way like BRS if cleaning water doesn't flow in river
Joke😂 , instead of first building a sewage treatment plant they are building riverfront butification , all the sewage is still dumped in these rivers throughout pune.
Where it is location??
Galat information hai sir.
11 naye sewage treatment plant ban rahe hai. Purane sewage treatment plant ko renew kar rahe hai.

This is half information tho mula mutha rejuvenation is one more part along with it jica has funded the same and along that river front development
metro line should have been developed alongside
Instead of this they should have continued with the River side road. I am not against beautification I am sure they will not be able to maintain this and people will sit on the benches and drink alcohol
Please review MTM bibewadi.
Cycle track par gadi chalayage
First clean the river
I like the rumours part😅😅😅😅😅😅
Pune needs such projects but they should make it look attractive. This design doesn't look aesthetic and modern from any angle. For becoming pro-environment they have compromised with aesthetics. Too much greenery and no large and open spaces, play areas, lightings and beautification. Sabarmati riverfront is how a riverfront should be.
Waste of money and time like BRT , this space should be used for a bridge. 100% of it will be under water during rainy season.
