  • Some great solos performances of songs from his 1976 album (Warren Zevon) and a 'new' song (Excitable Boy). If you've never heard Zevon you owe it to yourself to at least check his work out.

    I was 16 in 1976 when this program was recorded.
    I saw Warren live twice in the 80's. Both shows were awesome and he blew the roof off the place. I've owned all of his releases in LPs, Cassettes, CDs and even 8 Tracks. He was very popular with us in the military and we even converted his song Jungle Work into a Jody Call. He was a great song writer, singer and artist. He is sadly missed and we could use his insight today with all the craziness that we see.

    Two sources I keep returning to over and over again - Monty Python and Warren Zevon. That's what happens when you grow up in the 70's. Thank God. RIP brother. "Don't it make you want to rock and roll, all night long..."

    I love at the end when the interviewer tells everyone to have a good morning and Warren says "I think it's afternoon, man." Always a smartass, but a genius smartass.

    Thanks for this phenomenal interview of Warren Zevon in 1976. This is awesome. Warren was articulate and sang on the spot regarding many of his tunes from "Excitable Boy". Even drinking on the radio, Warren didn't get sloppy or obnoxious. Warren Zevon was absolutely one of the most talented song writers of the 70's.

    I love him just singing and playing live. Genius. The interviewer is bad, however. Can't even pronounce his name correctly. Doesn't seem to be very well-prepared or even know who Warren is. And Warren is gracious through the whole thing. Love him. Miss him.

    This is easily some of my favorite renditions of some of Zevons greatest songs. AMAZING, 1 of the best singer songwriters of the last 40 yrs.

    WHEW!!! OH---- I love Warren So so much. This was beautiful. A whole bottle of tequila in an hour, eh buddy? He kept hinting that the (decent!) interviewer should say "Zeeevon" but dude didn't catch it. Loved the man, voice, brain, and word choice. And he was easy on the eyes as well. Since 76.
    RIP.

    This is a phenomenal interview with Warren in 1976. This was also "Live" and off the cuff. It just shows you how versatile Warren was as a performer, musician, and interviewee. He's articulate but modest. Warren had humility back in 1976. He was a smart man, and well read. Great tunes and all done on the radio. Thanks for this interview.

      I was thinking the same thing. The interviewer sounds so young. But when I see this was recorded in October of 1976, I am forced to remind myself that in October of 1976, I was only 16. LOL 😂. It doesn't seem like almost half a century has gone by.....

    • @evan5604
      @evan5604 Před rokem +2

      @@gern7535 That’s it - he’s just young. I can easily imagine an older, more established interviewer coming off as pretentious and having a worse rapport with Zevon than this relative kid managed. What a time capsule. And it’s easy for me to forget how long Zevon had already been writing music and playing gigs abroad. It’s rare even for a debut to have so many knockout songs. He may have had to be convinced a bit to do an album but he was fully formed as a songwriter and certainly had his own voice.

  • @susanjohann2940

    He was in very fine voice on this. I missed a lot of Warren Zevon music through the years, after Excitable Boy, and only rediscovered him because of hearing "My shit's fucked up" at the end of an episode of Californication a few weeks ago. It's a shame.

    Too bad the interviewer couldn't be bothered to learn how to pronounce "Zevon" correctly. Also, his obsession with The Eagles and the word desperado was just downright weird. Just because The Eagles had a song named Desperado doesn't mean they own the word.
