- Today my German friend Jerry decided to go to one of the biggest derbies in the 2nd Bundesliga The "Südwestderby", as 1.FC Kaiserlautern took on their bitter rivals Karlsruher SC in a 2nd Bundesliga match.

But for Karlsruhe the number one derby is stuttgart or? And i guess for Lautern it is Mannheim? I know it's a huge derby but for both fans "only" the 2nd biggest enemy or?
@@jerrypaul95 you are actually right. But Stuttgart is in the First Division at the moment and havend faced each other for a couple of years. The rivalry between Karlsruhe and Lautern is more heated at the moment because Karlsruhe and Lautern have played against each other very often in the last 10 years. But in general Stuttgart (Schwaben) is the biggest rival of Karlsruhe (Baden).
@@jerrypaul95 your right, Saarbrücken and Mannheim are bigger rivals. It's is more history than hate for me between Karlsruhe and Kaiserslautern. Had Karlsruhe won the Cup in 1996, they would have rounded off their Golden 90s (7-0 against Valencia 94, absolutely stunning) and with their permanent establishment in international business could have laid the foundation for a successful new millennium. However, we won the Cup 96 and introduced one of the biggest sensations with the championship 98 with it. In 2017 the KSC was relegated to the 3rd league - again in a direct duel. Two years ago we fought for the promotion to the Bundesliga, with the better end for the KSC, which then lost in a heartbreaking match in the relegation to Hamburg. I am curious to see what the consequences of this derby will be at the end of the season.

Big part of the Lautern supporters comes from a slum-like area, called “Kalkofen”. Similar to a trailer park, the guys there are unemployed nazi guys. I remember I got a warning from military police about that area 😂
