  • I put Plasti Dip on my Honda Element, see how it went!
    Best piece of advice I can give is remove anything you don't want to paint, instead of masking it off. Masking takes a long time, and doesn't give the best results.
    This was a long process, it took me 2.5 days.
    Plasti Dip Honda Element in my garage I tried painting my car at home and my diy car paint job turned out great!

    for anyone watching this do not use the same technique. instead of doing panel by panel you should walk the length of the car. even if you release at the end of your stroke you still do that over the car so you will still get areas of thicker coverage.

    • @TheHowtoDad
      @TheHowtoDad  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you for pointing that out. I will say, it turned out ok using the technique I did.

      @@TheHowtoDad Yes it did, but it could have easily not. Sometimes other colors will more readily show those types of mistakes in technique so it's better to research and learn the better way ahead of time. If you do another car you'll be a pro now that you've had experience!

      I'm a professional Automotive painter for over 15 years and it's my passion and 2nd job I will say this my friend YOUR TECHNIQUE IS SPOT ON IN THIS VIDEO! You don't want to walk the entire length of the car, who does this but amateurs lol The reason being is (The type of equipment you're using as well as the paint quantity left over in your resevoir will most likely produce uneven strokes as time goes on in one setting) Painting in Sections using the same L to R and R to L sweeping motions will result in a much more even product TRUST ME I'VE PAINTED ALMOST 1000 cars and trucks this same way!

    • @TheHowtoDad
      @TheHowtoDad  Před 3 lety +1

      Not bad. About 2 years old now. Might do an overcoat to clean it up. It's a bit of a pain because it reacts badly with gas or any other solvent. Gotta keep armor all and other things away from it. Still better than driving a burn orange box around though!
      I'm planning on doing an update video soon. I've just got so many other projects on the go...

      not bad, still on there. so what's that been? 4 years? you need to be careful with gasoline and other solvent types, which is annoying. overall, still happy I did it.

    • @TheHowtoDad
      @TheHowtoDad  Před 5 lety +1

      I used the large kit, the total cost was $516 USD. This included the sprayer. as a tip, to get 10% off, put your order in your cart, go through all the steps to pay, DON'T pay. wait a day or so and they will drop the price by 10%. Also I should add, the job hasn't been holding up as well as I would have liked.

      @Phil Perri who told you that? you really don't need to wet sand your paint...just clean it really well, besides, you don't want it to embed itself into your paint, that would make it really hard to get off.

    • @TheHowtoDad
      @TheHowtoDad  Před 4 lety

    Hi, just found this. how is it holding up? I saw a video you did a few years ago and you had a silver E.

    • @TheHowtoDad
      @TheHowtoDad  Před 3 lety +2

      It's holding up ok. I intend to do a follow up shortly. Biggest issue I've had is with gasoline getting dripped or splashed onto the plastudip. Any solvent will melt it, causing bubbling or holes in the plastudip.
      This is my second element, the silver one had enough of this world

    You did 4 coats of gun metal gray how many gallons was that? And 4 coats of tactical green how many gallons was that? In the beginning you have 5 gallons so I'm trying to do the math. I'm a math teacher😅

    • @TheHowtoDad
      @TheHowtoDad  Před 3 lety
