- Raw but unique recordings of Dave Brubeck & his Trio with Gerry Mulligan and Paul Desmond, the Charles Mingus Quartet and Jimmy Smith at the 7th Newport Jazz Festival at the Doelen, Rotterdam, The Netherlands, 1971.
* Dave Brubeck performs a great concert with his sidemen Jack Six, bass and Allan Dawson, drums. The trio is completed with tenor saxophonist Paul Desmond and baritone saxophonist Gerry Mulligan.
Unfortunately, the concert that runs between between 02.00 and 35’20 has some drop-outs and hic-ups at 5’18”.
Pianist Dave Brubeck and his jazz-men play the following repertoire:
“Line for Lyons".
"Take five".
"Take the A-train".
* At 35’20” The concert is followed by two outtakes of the Charles Mingus Quintet at the same 7th Newport Jazz Festival
* At 54’20” unfortunately there is a sharp cut. The last part of the tape recording is a unique performance of Hammond organist Jimmy Smith featuring among others the illustre Illinois Jacquet on tenor saxophone and a great solo of Art Farmer on flugelhorn. With also Kenny Burrell on drums, Clark Terry on baritone saxophone and Roy Haynes on drums.
A unique recording!
The recording was made 31st October 1971 at the Doelen Concert hall, Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Maaan, look at those fabulouse fuckers having the time of their lifes. Right there and many moments more after. We all gonna die, so choose wisely ;) This can be a reality!
At it's very best! All of them! Unfortunately video with some interruptions ...
perfetto
I love this video but am confused because I thought the 7th festival was in 1960. I am guessing that they took the festival on tour around the world? The festival started in 1954, which would make 1960 the 7th, www.setlist.fm/festival/1960/newport-jazz-festival-1960-33d6085d.html I am currently listenng to the vinyl album from 1971, 'The Last Set at Newport,' which only mentions Paul Desmond as the writer of Take Five but not as a performer at the gig. The album is absolutely stunning and one of my favourites, talk about uplifting. But to see the smile on the face of Dave Brubeck in this video is brilliant too! Can anyone enlighten me?
Kenny Burrell on guitar, Clark Terry on trumpet.
I can not confirm the date, but the year is 1972, not 1971. There are also Mingus and Brubeck shows from Berlin 1972 from same tour (Newport in Europe) in youtube:

Whete did you get this video. Never saw it anywhere. And its not for sale anywhere
Was this Brubeck gig issued in any audio form? I want it badly on my mp3 player.
44:23 What is he using?
Good point - what is that tube and why is he using it? Is it a health issue?
Is it a sly method of smoking some herb? 😄😉
"Pay no attention to the tube...it's all good everybody!" 😜
