How wooden boards were made in the Middle Ages

  • I experiment in Traditonal/Historical Techniques, Medieval woodriving is definitely a part of that. This is how they used to split useable boards from logs (Method used by the cooper, slat cleaver, boat builder,...)
    Though they used wooden wedges (i didn't have the time to make wooden wedges).
    You get much more durable boards when you split them, because they follow the cells and grainstructure. Also the grains aren't interupted within your piece, this makes for a sturdier board.
