That music makes me want to travel.

I lived there for seven years in the 2000s. It was a good time. As long as you understand and accept the town's limitations, all will be well. And you have to be ready for some COLD weather and a LOT of snow. I lived for awhile in the El Portal, which has since burned to the ground.

I don't care who says what about Raton New Mexico to me that will always be home that's what part our family is all from a branch of the tree we all branched off of in my family it has died the drug problem has got bad but it's due to no work nothing else for kids and other people to do sometimes if people would just land a little bit of a helping hand instead of always gossiping about everybody else and speak up and things like City commission meetings maybe things might get accomplished there in that town I misread home so much I'm currently living in Thornton Colorado I miss you at home with all my heart it's up to a certain person to make your town your home the views and the beauty of Raton are just breathtaking I'm doing the Summers we get invaded by all the other people from other states for hunting fishing etc which is good keeps the town from totally dying well I hope to be back to visit soon

Wonderfully beautiful town. The main street (called 2nd Street) is every bit as peaceful and welcoming as it looks. Old-time architecture in this little small town. Reminds me of Mayberry from the Andy Griffith show.
The people are so nice and friendly... Don't forget to taste the tap water! Perhaps the best I've ever tasted.

I am making an educated guess that the Main Street up until the turn at approximately 5:30 was the main highway prior to the construction of Interstate 25. I notice quite a few abandoned gasoline stations from bygone days along that stretch. The downtown looked like it had been spruced up in recent years and appeared attractive although there did appear to be a number of vacant storefronts. The last minute or so along US 64 and US 87 gave a good look at the wide open spaces and big sky of the American West.

Belive it or not those gas stations are open except for one. The whole town looks like a well kept ghost town

It still is a beautiful main street (entitled 2nd Street).

Never been to Northern New Mexico. I live in the southern part of the state and would much rather be up north by the foothills.

Love Raton, we stayed at the NRA camping. Where are there good fishing places?

Sugarite Canyon has a big lake with fishing.

The NRA camp ground is awesome. Fishing is the other side of town.
Just ask the locals; they'll know

It looks exactly the same when i left two years ago. Still trashy. Tht smoke shop was shut down four years ago n never got demolished. I saw four houses owned by the #1 slum lord. jim baxter that was supposed to be tore down but never did and is still trying to rent the house that almost killed me n my family by catching fire due to outdated faulty wiring and insulation

Jeez, I pray you are safe now. Here in Southeast New Mexico there are lots of drugs too and I used to live in and near Chicago and there was never as much drug talk there as there is down here.

I've only been going to Raton since about 2018, but it's seemed wonderful.
As with any town, there are bad sides to it (bad areas).
The main street (2nd Street) is delightful. The people there are wonderful. And the water?! Perhaps the best I've ever tasted!

Music is terrible and unnecessary. Commentary would be nice.
