Interesting take. I would argue that it isn’t dead but now more important than ever. At the end of the day, SEO is about quality content and with all the garbage out there, the best results will always rise to the top. With that said, AI is definitely changing SEO and anyone who denies this is going to struggle.
I don't agree. I still find a lot of outdated content ranking on top of SERP. Many people write articles with 2k words to answer one simple question, and all that just to rank higher. AI will generate better and more precise answers. And you can mix AI with your own writing.

We had a client the other day, based in Spain. They recently made an English version of the site to try and tap into US and UK markets. Anyway, nobody bothered to check their SEO, and it turned out that all their title and meta descriptions were still in Spanish (facepalm).

Google search is not going anywhere. Relying on a program to give you a single answer is insane. That’s what makes google great. You have options to choose from and the options are curated towards you. In a way, Google has already been using “A.I.” to do SEO. Also, I am going to immediately have negative feelings towards companies that write with A.I. It’s not that I’m against it. I just find the experiences of people and the personalities that come through their writing so much more valuable.

Nice convo starter with a bunch of us!! Actually to me, I see the search box just changing shapes to a chat box or eventually to something like a personal Alexa. They all still are developing a best answer based on data it has to come up with answers. The “SEO artist” just has to understand new techniques to their craft and do it more noticeably and better than the rest. At the end of the day, a shoe is a shoe, but a couple somehow are consistently able to stick out. I feel the same applies here

Need to show experience with the products and expertise on the subject. SEO for people who don't have experience in their niche will def struggle, but this is alittle bit of a blanket statement to say that it's dead. I would argue SEO has become more important than ever. Also agree with your point, it's never a bad thing to expand and put some time into other forms of marketing. I would also argue that inexperienced competitors are going to use and abuse this such as buying poor quality backlinks 5-6 years ago and find their rankings tanking more than ever.

Not true. You're not factoring in bounce, dwell time and scroll movement. If the content isn't beneficial, users will stop reading, stop scrolling and bounce. All of these factors contribute to page ranking. I've read Ai content and it's soulless with zero user objective.

AI-based trash content will undoubtedly make it harder to rank well, but it won't have nearly as much success as content written by a human with the intent to really provide value and helpful advice. Google released an update that penalizes unoriginal AI-generated content. As always, valuable content will always rank high, and it will be reshared by others. But I agree with the point, that for getting specific answers, users will use chatGPT instead of Google. Interesting times!

And the AI has to get its information from somewhere, SEO will likely just adapt to this However yes if you’re a designer, don’t try to be a Jack of all trades focus on the design of the site, if not it’ll just water down your talent in design
