      Interestingly they used footage from Jedi Knight Mysteries of the Sith, and in that one Kyle Katarn is always the final boss. You either spare him for the lightside ending where Kyle will renounce the Force (which is why he does not have it at the start of Jedi Knight 2) or kill him which leads your character (Mara Jade) to fall to the darkside as well.

    • @empath69
      @empath69 Před rokem +2

      @@esbmysterious Yeah, I was surprised they skipped over Mysteries of the Sith in favour of Jedi Academy, since as you say, the protagonist ALWAYS has to fight Kyle (who has fallen to the dark side) in MotS, instead of maybe facing off against him based on a choice in JA.
      You might be mistaken about the ending of Mysteries of the Sith, tho - Kyle is so utter badass that you just can't beat him, and you only manage to resolve things by pushing him to the right point with persuasive arguments about his past and his good side, that when you PUT DOWN YOUR LIGHTSABER, he is conflicted enough that he can't bring himself to kill you and manages to break free of the sith temple's influence (pick the wrong moment, and you just become a crispy critter, and Kyle goes shopping at Hugo Boss).

    The Hero's Shade is hinted being the Hero of Time even without the Hyrule Historia. When you meet him for the first time as the wolf, he howls the Song of Healing to you. A song the Hero of Time uses.

      Actually I believe all the Wolf songs are from OOT or Majora's Mask (or their own unique song), furthering the connection. I always like bringing up the Hero's Shade whenever people stupidly say "The Zelda devs never thought of the timeline before the fans made it up!", uh, nope. Wind Waker and Twilight Princess especially drive home that there are multiple timelines and there's a sequence of events to it all.

      @@ExileTwilight I dunno, the 3D Zeldas are totally tied together, specifically to Ocarina of Time but obviously Skyward Sword was made thoughtfully with the timeline in mind as it being "the first Link adventure" was a big selling point for it. Wind Waker is filled to the brim with OOT references as well as Twilight Princess. The events in those games are direct repercussions of the events of OOT and is why Ganondorf appears in humanoid form in both.
      They're obviously not direct sequels, but you can at least see Hyrule has had a history far beyond the game's events, and that Ocarina (and later Skyward) tie to it.

    In the octo expansion, agent 3 (who you played as in the original game’s hero mode) is constantly alluded to, but it’s not until the end of the dlc that we actually see them. After saving you from being turned into a smoothie, agent 3 appears covered in the slime you were to be turned into and acts as the final stretch before you’re allowed to take over the world. They have almost no limit on special attacks and bombs, meaning that once you finally defeat them, this formidable foe has passed out again before they can help you save the world.
    You may then fight them again inside your own mind later on for the golden toothpick, but this time they have no limits at all save for the fact that they are not immune to being shot.

    For anyone curious about the Hero's Shade and how OoT Link became a spectral skeleton, long before or shortly after the release of Hyrule Hystoria, many fans had strong theories that after OoT, Link went through a journey to find Navi, who canonically was basically the only close friend and companion Link ever had in his life. It's that journey that led us to the events of Majora's Mask, having Link explore the Lost Woods in hopes of finding Navi there and where Skull kid got him to the world of Termina. After that adventure, he continued with his search for Navi, but to no avail. And given how OoT established that the Lost Woods would turn anyone who got lost there for too long into a Skull Kid or a monster, it's very likely Link got succumbed to the curse and became the Hero's Shade

    • @Vaquix000
      @Vaquix000 Před 9 měsíci

      Only Ocarina of time and Majora's mask are connected to each other, not Twilight princess or Wind Waker as it's been heavily hinted at. Can't be connected to Wind Waker or Twilight Princess.
      Not connected to Wind Waker because: You mean to tell me that all of reality suddenly looks cartoonish simply because a lot of time passed? It's absolute nonsense.
      Not connected to Twilight Princess because: Though it doesn't have the issue of being a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ART STYLE making it laughable to suggest they're in the same reality, the layout of hyrule is nothing like hyrule in oot. So it makes no sense. Nintendo sometimes likes to make up some nonsense to throw a bone to the crazy timeline theorists but really, they're not connected - Most of the zelda games aren't. If the zelda games were actually connected and had a real timeline there wouldn't be hour long videos trying to make sense of a constantly changing timeline.

    I appreciate the inclusion of the lore-compliant Mickey shirt scene
    For anyone out of the loop, at the end of KH1 [SPOILERS] Mickey is seen behind the Big Door with Riku, strangely missing his shirt as he helps close it from the other side.
    In his infinite brilliance the director of the KH series elected to ""fix"" this apparent oversight in the cutscene by making it a point to include a scene in KH0.2 where Mickey loses his shirt in a fight set shortly before his appearance in that famous doorway. Bear in mind that if they noticed this oversight and were unhappy with it, they could have simply fixed the cutscene in all the "final mix" versions of the game released a few years later. Nomura kept it, and made it canon. God I love this franchise.

    Or, what about Splatoon 2's DLC "Octo Expansion"? The DLC literally has the new character, dubbed Agent 8, fight against the protagonist of Splatoon 1, Agent 3, twice! One is a mandatory boss fight required to be beaten to progress towards the final battle of that DLC, while the other is your "reward" for clearing all the missions it has. And oh boy, in both encounters, Agent 3 is not playing around he/she (you decide their gender earlier in the DLC's story) goes all out on you! He/she even cheats by being able to swap out Specials from Splatoon 2. It's a special thing to be able to fight against him/her

    There’s actually one other I think people don’t realise. In Yakuza 4, one chapter allows you to play as Taiga Saejima (Goro Majima’s yakuza brother) in the main story of it you are given the opportunity to fight Kiryu Kazuma (the main protagonist of Yakuza 0-6) on the Okinawa beach near his orphanage Morning Glory. However I don’t think it would count since you play as Kiryu again in Chapter 4 of it.

    I always assumed that OoT Link became some sort of Stalfos because he didn't have Navi anymore and might've never stopped wandering around the Lost Woods looking for her

  • @TheOneMiffy92
    @TheOneMiffy92 Před 2 lety +652

    You wanna feel real sad? Okay, get ready for this conjecture:
    The Link from OoT is explicitly stated as being "in search of a friend" in Majoras Mask (its canonical sequel). While we don't find Navi in Termina, we do find another temporary fairy companion, Tatl.
    It's entirely likely at the end of that game, that Link leaves Termina and heads back to Hyrule.
    It's also entirely likely that Link goes to the Kokiri Forest and heads to the Lost Woods to find Navi, but gets lost. A Kokiri girl you meet in the adult line explains that anyone who doesn't have a fairy becomes a Stalfos if they're lost.
    OoT Link is confirmed to be a Hylian by birth, not a Kokiri. As such, the only thing that's keeping him from being lost in the forest is his fairy companion, Navi.
    It's my theory that Link went back to the Lost Woods at some point in his Adult life, and stayed too long looking for Navi - becoming a Stalfos knight in the process.
    That's why he's in Twilight Princess as a rotting, rusting skeletal form - filled with regret.

    • @HedgieDaUmbrehog
      @HedgieDaUmbrehog Před 2 lety +19

      I can help make this a bit darker. Ive long since held the belief as to why Navi could no longer be found.
      Navi. Is Links mother, turned into a fairy.
      It was stated that she died escaping from the castle, bequeathing Link to the Great Deku Tree. Well, heres where my theory comes in. She was given new life as a fairy, so that when the time came for Link's destiny to come to pass, she could be by her son's side to help guide and help him through it all. To do the one thing she couldnt do as a mother: watch and guide her son to become the greatest hero of them all. That explains why, upon returning to the child timeline, Navi just kinda flies off to the sky and vanishes. Because, her mission done and her son now being the hero he was meant to be, her mission is completed and she could pass on.
      To help push this theory, there are a lot of times real world influence has crept into games like the LoZ series. Ghosts staying until theyre either exorcised ( the po sisters in the forest temple being the obvious example there, as well as Phantom Ganon ) or when they complete the thing keeping them bound to the world. Links mom being a fairy was her own gift, granted by the great Deku tree, so that she wouldnt become a ghost, and instead be the fairy for her own "fairy-less" son. Even in the manga ( yes, I know it isnt canon, still ) before she flies off, she states she loves Link dearly. As a kid, I thought it was a semi romantic thing, but if my theory proves true, it would be the love of a mother to her son. And thus, thats why Link was never able to find Navi. Because he was looking for his mother, who finally passed on because her one regret keeping her there was satisfied.
      This then ties into what @TheOneMiffy92 proposed. Navi not being there means no one to guide Link. But its more then just being a guide. What if the magic of the fairies acted as a barrier to stop the dark magic of the lost woods from turning Link in general? No Navi mom, no magical barrier, no guide to stop him being lost. Hero or not, he is, as stated, still a Hylian. The only reason he didnt submit to evil upon dying and becoming a Stalfos was the protection of the Triforce of Courage. Thats why he retained his sanity and was able to do things Stalfos cant, like becoming the white wolf and retaining all his knowledge from his adventures, including all the songs he learned, which is why summoning him takes on the form of songs from both those games.
      Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

The boss at the end of level 5 is "Vasteel Original" -- Vasteel being the name of the ship you piloted in Thunder Force 4, which failed to escape the destruction of that game's final boss. And in case seeing either the name or the ship itself wasn't enough of a clue for you, the boss battle theme ("Duel of Top") is an extended mix of Thunder Force 4's title theme.
