    I’m grateful Disney leadership can’t get their hands on this resort. They would turn it into another eyesore DVC tower.

    • @flvets
      @flvets  Před měsícem +1

      I kinda dig the DVC membership.. But Shades of Green hits different for me mostly because I enjoy seeing my military Brothers and Sister enjoying life at home... And swapping war stories and hearing where all the service members are from will never get old for me.

      @@flvetsyes I mean the DVC Hilton tower design at the Riviera and Polynesian is an eyesore compared to the unique hotels on the resort.
      I just hope when Bob Iger finally leaves, the new generation of management there will see the long term benefit in magical places like the wilderness lodge.

      I feel that Disney and the Reedy Creek oversight district do not know the nostalgia that was created by the walkway for military families.

      it's actually a repurposed disney hotel that was called the disney inn.
      Disney struck a deal with the military.
      it's cheaper based on rank.
      and it's right across the street from the poly.

      They aren't going to. Too much money to build, and also Disney doesn't want the cheaper veteran guests going over to the Polynesian anymore.

    • @flvets
      @flvets  Před měsícem

      I believe it was requested by DOD but denied by Reedy Creek.

    • @GWM9930

      My understanding is the Central Florida Tourism Improvement board (formerly Reedy Creek Improvement District) actually offered to fully fund a crosswalk bridge, but Disney said NO. That is right. They said NO to free money that would not come from the Disney pockets. In my opinion, Disney does not want the Shades of Green (military members, families, and veterans, and Gold Star families) walking from the Shades of Green and visiting the Polynesian Resort restaurants and especially to use the Monorail to the Magic Kingdom! For more info, see CZcams videos from "WDW Pro" who details this info much better than I ever could. Bottom line, Disney stopping pedestrian traffic to the Polynesian really steams my clams!!

      When we visited last February, an employee told us that an agreement had been reached to build a walkway. However, Disney and the DoD could not agree on who was responsible for maintaining the walkway for the life of the structure. As a result, the agreement to build fell apart. Not sure of the validity of this info but this is what we were told.

      From what I found under eligibility, ID is DD Form 2, PHS 1866-1 or 1866-3 and ID is DD Form 1173 or 2765 should work. This is the number on your Government ID. If you have any specific questions, here is Shades of Green information.

    Can a non- military person visit the resort just to see it, maybe eat? I remember when it was one of three of the original resorts, called the Golf Resort or something like that.

    • @flvets
      @flvets  Před 2 měsíci +2

      @@kdganske53 I know families that have entered the resort that were non military. The guard does check for military, retired, and CAC cards at the gate. Also non military families can be sponsored to stay here. If you can get on, everything on the resort is tax free! I’m sorry my answer is not as clear as I would like it to be. I show my military retiree ID when I enter and tell them I’m there to buy tickets.

      @@flvets Thank you, I just checked Google Earth and it appears that the route to the Golf Course goes past the guard house. Am I seeing this correctly? Do the guards manage the golf patrons from the resort patrons and if so, how can they manage golfers from wandering over to the resort? I always wished I could visit the resort just to see what it was like. In 1974 when I first went to WDW, I tried to stay at the Polynesian Resort but it was booked, as was the Contemporary. They offered the Golf Resort but as I wasn't a golfer, so I went to a local Holiday Inn. Being from Canada, I won't be passing by that way soon but during my past visits, I stayed on WDW property and took time to visit the various resorts. Shades of Green looks like a very tranquil resort.

      @@flvets When we go we sponsor my brother and his wife and my sister. They are non-military. If you are honorably discharged military, but not active duty or retired you can only go in January and September and you can sponsor two additional rooms.

    • @Xantexhunter
      @Xantexhunter Před 12 dny +3

      So, in 2020, they expanded the guest eligibility to Veterans.
      If you are a veteran with a honorable discharge, you can use all the facilities there without restriction. So the exchange, ticket purchases, restaurants, etc. And during the months of September and January, you can also book a room there as well.
      If you are a veteran with a service connected disability greater than 0%, you can use all the facilities and book a room at anytime of the year. Disabled veterans can also sponsor non-military guests as well. You just have to be present during check-in, afterward, the non-military guests get a special card that allows them access to all facilities during their stay.
