  • Steve Roan’s 300 acres in Tyler County has been in the family for 4 generations. Each generation has had slightly different objectives. The hay pasture that Steve’s uncle was passionate about didn’t fit within Steve’s wildlife-friendly goals, so he worked with the Texas Longleaf Team to restore his pasture to a longleaf savannah. This is his story.

we have been trying for the last 4 years to get some long leaf pine seedlings to survive in the southern part of Anderson County in Texas So far this fall of 2023 and first 7 months of 2024 been our best attempt. Our land is very sandy and the sand layer is about 20 feet in depth. I have still had to water our seedlings to give them a fight chance at survival. It is basically a test plot of about 2 acres and about 400 seedling to see if they are a viable option in this sandy area.
