    I bought one of these trimmers 3 days ago , it is a great trimmer. My trimmer does not have the same handle set up, adjustable shaft length, or variable speed trigger. I thought I was getting the model with the smart line auto feed but apparently, I didn't which I think is probably best anyway. There seem to be several models with different features so look closely before you buy. I got the one with the 2.5 AMP battery which is OK for me as it runs 35 to 40 minutes but a bigger battery would be better for a person using it for bigger jobs. I have been using it basically as a bush hog in some overgrown areas and it has not disappointed so far. I am a single woman who has some shoulder issues and doesn't want to fool with temperamental gas trimmers.

    I just bought one, and a friend and I both tried it out, and we both came to the conclusion that it appears to be weaker in power than our old Black and Decker electrically operated trimmer, which could cut through twigs and weeds with ease, but was awkward to operate at the end of a long power cord in our crowded yard. That’s why we purchased a battery powered machine, but are these intrinsically weaker than the electrically operated ones?

    Thanks for the great video, but I do have a question. Your video skipped over the part I had a question on. When I took my tape off there was not a metal blade, just a black plastic piece. Not sure if this is covering a blade or the plastic is what cuts the line?

    • @AroundTheHome1
      @AroundTheHome1  Před rokem

      Well there should be a metal blade there. I can't imagine it supposed to cut with plastic notch. Now, the notch should be holding the blade, that's why there is tape to cover the metal edge. Sounds like yours might be missing that.

    I just bought an EGO string trimmer and read the manual, it doesnt say what to do about the blue tape covering the string cutting blade on underside of the guard. its very hard to remove and I would assume it needs to be removed. Nobody seems to reference it at all.. I guess if the string never cuts I will know it needs to come off. Glaring omission on EGO's manual writers behalf.

    How did you cut off the access string toward the end? You did something but I did not see what? Also, i use this with the 7ah battery that came with the mower, but this bad-boy gets really heavy after a few minutes. I'm going to have to get a smaller battery for the string trimmer.

    • @AroundTheHome1
      @AroundTheHome1  Před 2 lety

      So many good questions tonight! Thanks for your comments / questions. First, to cut off the extra string just rev the string trimmer up and there is a blade on the guard that cuts off the extra. Just make sure it is pointed away from you. Here is more of a comprehensive how to use video. czcams.com/video/TPqZn_qTmkY/video.html
      And you are using that 7.5 Ah battery in the trimmer. Man, you could trim an entire neighborhood with that monster. Yes, that has to be heavy. I would suggest one of the smaller ones as well. I actually have been moving away from the 2.5 and use mainly the 5.0, but that is really up to you. Do you have the blower yet??

  • @adamanderson7761
    @adamanderson7761 Před rokem

    I got one of these today and after a few minutes the line jammed and needed to be removed, and then the Powerload feature did not work when trying to load the new line. It was pretty disappointing given the high expectations reviews on this trimmer have set... I'm waiting on a replacement head from EGO but that really doesn't seem like the issue, given nothing appears to be wrong with the current one.

    Would the trimmer head that you demonstrated on an earlier video with the arrows and deep grove in the head fit my ST1520s?
    Today, I did find my string loaded easier only took me 33 minutes today if I twisted the string as I was working with it. It still took me many tries doing this. I have fought this for almost 3 years.

      Copy and pasted my response to your other comment. It will not have the lines because that is only on the older Rapid Reload heads, not the Powerload heads. And the older Rapid Reload heads were the ones that were hard to load. You say that you always use the .095 line, but is the end straight. Because coming out the other side is where it will hang up if it is going to. These heads are not interchangeable. Also, I have almost never heard of so much trouble with loading these heads. It sounds like you are already mad at it before you start and that is what is leading to the frustration and complication. I did have one other viewer that had the same amount of trouble and I did a video with the Rapid Reload head. This ended up helping them so I hope that it can help you. czcams.com/video/8WeSIdWYqXc/video.html

    I have EGO model ST1520S It is now 3 years old. I watched your latest video on string trimmers. Your model had marks on the bottom of the trimer head to line up.
    I have fought with getting this string in for 3 years now. Love my trimmer when It is working.
    I called EGO today, they suggested AH1520 new trimmer head.
    Looking on line at this model I do not see any marks on it for lining it up. I was unable to find the part locally to look at it. Everything needed to be ordered.
    Can you offer a suggestion if this part number may have the marks on it?
    I spent over one hour today trying to get the line to feed in. I am doing it correctly. Please help.

      I just watched your video and my line does not go in as easy as your video. All week It has taking me over an hour to get the line in. I have always used twisted .095. This is a work horse of a line, love it.

    At the string end where the motor is located is the housing metal or plastic? Or is there a plastic cover over the metal housing that holds the motor? The other ego string trimmers the housing that holds the motor is all metal and not sure if they made this cheaper by making it all plastic and question how durable or strong it will be if it is all plastic. thanks for the great video.

      @@AroundTheHome1 Thats the problem with those battery operated trimmers. You cant slow them down enough to go around delicate stuff or a chain link fence to keep from breaking the string. I hate my Milwaukee trimmer because of that. Their only variable speed down to a certain certain rpm (like 4500) and then they cut off.

    • @AroundTheHome1
      @AroundTheHome1  Před 3 lety

      Ok, so I checked the manual to be specific. First the main two trimmers that I have the No-Load speed is listed at 4000~5800 RPM. Now personally I find no problem with the lower speed to get around delicate items, and I have plenty. The new trimmer in this video with the low high switch is listed on Low 3000-4800 and high 4500-5800. I don't know if that helps. @@AroundTheHome1 thanks for checking. I was asking because I'm going to see if I can find an Ego demo so I can see how slow it starts up. My Milwaukee's slowest start up speed even on the turtle mode is to fast for my taste in some circumstances. I wonder why they can't make the variable speed slower like a gas trimmer.

    • @AroundTheHome1
      @AroundTheHome1  Před 3 lety +1

      Well, that I don't know exactly. I don't know what kind of a gear box, if any, that the trimmer has. So it might have to do with not enough torque if it ran slower. But that is just a guess.
