1) having now been to both Shanghai and Hong Kong I can safely say that Hong Kong is STILL very small feeling, but that additions like their version of Big Thunder, the awesome castle projection show during fireworks, and their new Frozen area (which is tiny but pretty) really help.
2) I have been to Shanghai’s pirate land, and I didn’t know it existed until I walked up to it the day I arrived. Pirates are… a big thing, for me, to put it lightly, so it rapidly became a place I love and cemented Shanghai as my favorite foreign park so far. Lucky for me, it’s also currently my home park!
I would love to see the big-drop version of Pirates be realized at a Disney park. When it was planned for Honk Kong, would it have used the same ride system as Splash Mountain, with 4-row boats seating 2-3 guests across? In the concept art, the boats look like they still seat 4-across.
I went to go look up the height of the first drop on Pirates at Disneyland because I could've sworn I heard it was the same height as Splash Mountain before. Turns out it's only 18 feet. That's insane to me. Now I really want to see a big drop version.
(The confusion was that apparently the length of the drop is 52 feet but the hight is only 18. I don't know why the length of the drop was ever explained to me and not the height.)
