  • we are off to a rocky start with the 8530 catching fire due to a bird building a nest under the hood on top of the turbo charger. can't see it from the ground. even after we washed this tractor it went unnoticed. after it was on fire (no damage) I used the water tank and pump to blast the nest out of there but it still had straw and sticks on the manifold. it was smoking again in two minutes as I went up to the shop to check it out more closely. anyway its ok and in the field and we have just short of 200 acres in the ground.

Hey Wes, loved the video best part was going through the codes, ''Front inner flood lights.... so, we don't worry about those'' 😆🤣I'm an ag mechanic but grew up farming with equipment from the 70's so i have appreciation for that statement as I've said it several times before thanks for the laughs and glad to see you in the field

I know what you mean on the out of area farmers. Back in the 80 s I seen that many times northern Iowa farmers come down south Iowa and they leave 1 or 2 years later ! Hope you have a good season .

Another thing that the non-farming community doesn't understand is, farmers having to deal with critters. Constant battle.
I had a Starling keep building a nest on top of the the motor of my New Holland tractor. Finally after about 25 times of removing it with a coat hanger with a hook bent on the end and a leaf blower. I did what Grandpa would have done. I shot it and hung it on the side of the tractor with baking twine! No more problems with birds.
Also I had mice get on top of the motor of another tractor and build a nest before I caught it. They chewed on a rubber fuel return line. I couldn't get my hands back into it so I could replace it. Was a busy season so I took it to the dealership. It cost me $800.00 to replace a very inexpensive piece of hose. Because they had to the Turbo and everything off of the top of the motor to get down to it.

It’s cicadas. They mostly don’t eat much after emergence but when they do, it trees, bushes and brush. They are sap suckers that spend almost all of their lives in the soil until breeding time. Other than the noise and mess they make on windshields they shouldn’t bother farmers to much unless it’s clogging filters and stuff.
