I am 66 years old. I cannot identify a hammer or screwdriver. I am a Mr. Fx-It fix moron. I barely know how to put air in my tires. But I fixed my microwave using this video. It has inspired my confidence so much I have applied for an aircraft mechanics job at United Airlines. I'll let you know if I get hired so you can choose a different airline. Thanks for the fix it video.

I had this latch problem. Watched this video, got inspired and out of bed and fixed it in the middle of the night! A broken spring was the issue so I was able to bend hooks on each end to reconnect it. Thanks a million!

However, with my particular latch problem, the only part that broke was the plastic piece that has a hole in it to keep the upper hook-type-part in place. The one that houses the hole for the spring is in great shape and the one below that for the lower hook-type-part is in great shape. It’s just that the top area doesn’t stay put since that plastic securing piece broke off. So, the door will not close. I just tried all sorts of things to try to keep it in place / offer resistance when closing the door. No luck. Since this microwave is discontinued, are we just totally out of luck? Please let me know what you think. THANK YOU!

GREAT VIDEO for an awesome, free work-around fix for this problem!!!! Not only did you save me a new microwave at about $300, which I thought I might have to get at first, you also saved me another $30 on the replacement part, which I thought I would need after the first few minutes of Googling. This is the one! Most videos show how to reattach the spring assuming the latch is still attached to the inner door assembly. Thank you for showing what to do if that latch is broken off

Wow! This is so well explained! My spring attachment (as you smartly identified on the door) broke, not the unit itself. It was great having to simply attached to the bottom of that metal trim. Fantastic, thanks.

I want to thank you for posting this video, it was extremely helpful and after a couple of "dilemmas" because ours is slightly different, we were able to fix the door and it now closes properly.

Your video gave me the insight and a li'l confidence to fix my problem, which popped up this evening.
Off I went! Yep, broken plastic bracket.
In my case, on a Sharp brand over-the-stove MW around 30 years old, I decided to use a bent piece of heavy tie wire (as for supporting suspended T-bar grid ceiling systems). I used needlenose pliers to make a tiny crook for the spring at the top; measured & marked, then formed a hook to grab the lower piece of bent metal on the frame. This kept the alignment near-vertical.
Reassembled, tested: Sweeeeet! Up & running in time for dinner! Zapped some left-over fettucini!

This video is so helpful and saves my GE microwave every 4 years. As a frequent user every day of my microwave, the plastic bottom edges of the latch hooks will wear down from friction causing the internal switches not to be pressed down far enough. The result is the internal light and blower stay on. Originally I had GE tech support come out, along with a $200 service charge all they did was recommend replacing the entire microwave! So, many thanks to you guys for creating this video!

Thanks to you, I just fixed the microwave door. I have to admit it took more than 5 minutes. The spring didn't want to stay in place. I tried several spots until I found one that worked and let the frame line up as it should. Success!
You're awesome! Once I got a really thin screwdriver, I had it repaired in just about 2 minutes. You saved us $200 or $300 for a new microwave and a bunch of my time that I would have had to spend installing.

this is the most clear instruction on how to fix that broken spring holder, didn't know how to attach that spring back but when you mention not to glue it back and just attach the spring onto one of the grove then that was my que to start doing it, took me 5 minutes to get it fixed, thank you very much for this video , i appreciate it...

You are awesome! Watched another video which had same directions on removing trim but he said the break was on the plastic latch. I'd ordered the latch before looking and come to find that it was broken, as you said, on the door (99% of the time). Obviously the other video was selling the latches as the fix. You fix of attaching spring to metal on door, was free and instant! Thanks so much. Wish your video had come up first and I'd have not spent the $14 had had microwave -OOO- for a day.

Our microwave door broke last night and I was dreading the repair. Your video helped me fix it pretty easily. The idea to hook the spring onto the side is very clever!
Worked great! Took me about ten minutes. I needed to drill a little hole in the metal framework on the door by the broken tab because the distance of the metal tabs was either too short (not enough tension), or too long (too much tension), but it latches like a champ now! Thanks for the video!
