Woke up at 3am to go to the airport to go on vacation during easter break. During the ride to the airport, I fell asleep in the car listening to this. Even if it was only 4 hours ago by now, I wanna relive that experience so bad. 😢
Imagine you've just moved away, and nothing feels familiar anymore. Your room is clean, and everything is unpacked and ready. You open your curtains to let the sunlight in, you lie in your bed, and you think to yourself: "this isn't home yet, but being here somehow feels right". That's what this song makes me feel.
I haven’t moved houses, but changed schools and everyone felt similar and familiar, but not at the same time. Now it feels like nothing changed, for the worst, but things got better for me mostly, less bullying and even when some kids tried, it failed because it was an annoying kid who did it, and it was mostly annoying, not all that hurtful.
I moved away bc of uni and they were (are) tough times. Moving away from a big city (1.8M) to a more small city with around 40k inhabitants is quite a big change. Being 800 km apart doesn‘t make it better. There are times when I think: „it is so much better at home“ when cooking my favorite dish. But long story short, I‘ll remember this OST when I arrive back „home“.
After a night of heavy drinkin and celebrating someone’s birthday. All of my extended family left that same night, I wake up to just trying to get over a mild hangover and the house empty once again, I head to work at the restaurant. the sun is already setting on my drive, seems like everyone there had the same idea, all of their relatives/friends went off back home from thanksgiving now it’s just a few people here and there chilling for the Sunday night. The atmosphere was super mellow, didn’t really speak to any of my coworkers than I typically do, clocked out to 30 degree weather, already seems like the whole town is already asleep when it’s 10:30pm. Downtown’s very well decorated in preparation for Christmas yet not a person in sight, just myself alone driving back home. I played this song on repeat and it genuinely fit my vibe for tonight - We really do need music in our lives if we cannot convey how we feel through our thoughts or in text, at least in can be done for us eloquently through music. Felt nice. I’m not ready for the 6 month winter but this song warms me up and life feels good.
This song really captures the loneliness and hope Ralsei must have felt waiting without any subjects for the heros to arrive, Not knowing what was going to happen.
Calling it now, Next time we head to castle town there's gonna be a slight technological melody in there. We're building up more and more music as the chapters progress much like with Undertales Title music. Edit 9/15/22: Called it!
I can imagine a kid playing Deltarune and having their town grow up with them as the chapters release, until they're in college and finally facing off against Chapter 7's final boss
I love how it is explicitly stated that this is our town now, not kris', with this song also showing that. This is despite seemingly susie, kris, ralsei, and maybe lancer being the ones responsible for saving it. It's the only time our name is mentioned. So I wonder... Who told them?
This feels like something I’d hear in a studio gibli movie. Peaceful, happy, innocent, and In a way, kinda nostalgic. I love it. Which is why I fall asleep to it a lot. Because it feels like… home. Also. I can tell that this song was played on an actual piano, and not a digital one. Because I can hear the keys hitting and grinding against the wood. I’ve played enough piano to remember that sound clearly. It kinda adds to the song in a beautiful sort of way. It’s more… heartfelt and genuine.
One day, I want to see Kris and Susie take Noelle to Castle Town. To tell her it wasn't a dream, and all the wonderful people she met were real, (and that Susie does indeed have a tail.)
Fan fact: The name my castle town has more meaning than you might think on the surface. Remember what Ralsei said he named the town. He said it was named after us, but it’s not Kris’s, it’s the name we put in the beginning. Because it literally MY castle town, and yours everyone’s else playing the game
Does that intend your name or the character you created is canon? Or it may just be a cool way of using the name you chose at the start. Who told them that name? Gaster? Consodering the fact you cant name your character Gaster if feels almost too explicit. But whatever this score is amazing.
man, i miss those chilly autum nights where my mom would take me with her to weekend events that lasted until the evening, and listening to My Castle Town on the drive back. It’s been almost a year since deltarune chapter 2 came out but I felt so happy in that era… 🍂😵💫
If you listen closely, you can hear the noise of piano keys being pressed. No, I don't mean the melody, I mean the sound of the keys being pressed down. Yes, actually. Listen closely through the section 0:20 - 0:42, though faint, you can hear the sound of the keys moving with small, soft hisses, which are even echoed with the piano. Maybe I'm wrong, but it looks like the piano is a direct performance, while the rest of the instruments are synthesized. This isn't just anyone's emotions you feel here. That's Toby.
oh this track is gonna have the BIG nostalgia vibes when our deltarune journey is over, reminiscing the memories of each chapter while walking through the town full of friends you made....
@@RaphielShiraha64 I don't think it's a coincidence that both Undertale, and Deltarune both got Genocide Routes, Deltarune is a completely different game on its it's own, but with Undertale's characters, Deltarune makes fun of those players who have played Undertale, and why is this "Power if the Will" referred to as "Determination" just as the "Power to Change Fate" in Undertale was referred to?

When you feel all alone, you just need to know I will always be here when you soul start to glow Anything that opposes us will face together as a team To fulfill our destiny On a quest to bring on peace and prosperity To ensure the lives We Care will remain happy to bring the balance between the dark and Light Will do what we can with our might When the day is won and everything has been done And it's time for you to go back to where you came from When your sad that you have to go away Dont forget I'll be here waiting for the next day

This song sounds like that in-between time when spring is just turning to summer. Everything is beautiful and vibrant but the weather isn't quite hot yet. The air feels delicate and soft and the smell of flowers is still lingering in the air. Above are beautiful white clouds that look like they're out of a painting and a baby blue sky you could get lost in for hours. Beauty swirls around you and you feel completely at peace, even if just for a little while.
When I heard this at the start of chapter 2, I immediately felt emotional. I was like "you can't make me cry this early into the game Toby!!!!". Such a pretty song :')
People probably already know this, but since the name of the town is based off you, the Player's name (Talk to the guy in the bottom left if you don't believe me) your actions reflect how your town will be. Use Malice, your town will be empty as a grave on a snowy night, only filled with those your wrath didn't notice. Use Mercy, and though you might not be filled with power, you will be filled with knowing that you can save everyone from the Dark.
I don't know if it's because I played so much piano as a kid, but hearing the clicks of the keyboard and lifting of the pedal is actually pretty soothing.
Such a beautiful and solemn song, a bittersweet melody reminding you that you need to cherish those you care about, and to do so while you still can. Also good for a good nights rest! 10/10
I think we're going to continue to see repression/repressed memories as a major theme in Undertale, and this song is a prime example of how that's being illustrated. The piano starts out all by itself, and it's very muffled. But as the song goes on and more instruments are added in, the sound gets crisper, more close and real. I think it's meant to show that Kris has been keeping things hidden inside for a long time, but that those feelings are coming to light now; even more so that they are making new friends. The more instruments are added to the song, the clearer the piano sounds. The more friends Kris makes, the more they are able to confront their feelings - as well as a past we don't yet know. It's certainly no coincidence that Kris is implied to know how to play the piano well but is choosing only to slam on the keys.
about the piano part... Some have speculated that Kris can't play the piano because... They're not the ones playing it. The player is in control, and the player also doesen't know how to play a piano. The upset look Kris has after WE slam our hands on the keys isn't for Susie mocking them, they're upset at US for making them look ridicolous and taking away one of their hobbies.
@@ARandomBoi_NothingToSeeHere Ohh, I forgot about this theory since chapter 1 came out! God this game just finds more ways to be ingenious, curious, and potentially depressing...
@@CounterCurseMantra Lol I hope so! I really love and resonate with these games, so it would be nice to see I'm interpreting them correctly (though, heck, it's Toby Fox, there's multiple interpretations)
@@wolfwriterRodger Definitely Kris is reacting to our actions. With mouse puzzles that makes Kris feel not quite happy about some choices (what Noelle comments in mind), with Snowgrave that made Kris horrified, with Spamton trying to actually reach Kris with all of NEO madness, and finally with piano Kris can't even use to play. But Kris is following this puppet show for more adventures and more occasions to actually break free. Secret bosses seems to be the way... but is it really way to make KRIS free? Or whoever is trying to "proceed"? These choices leading to Weird Route (personally) are not just some random decisions. They were made... but by who? Someone on reddit step up with theory about someone else between players and Kris. Not Gaster obviously, but someone else. (warning, I'm exploring theory of mine which is offtopic actually) Somewhere else I made comment that Undertale has not many endings. Why though? If you follow path: Neutral -> Pacifist -> Genocide you will find, that after run we are getting hints from Flowey. Hey, befriend everyone. Hey, don't ruin this sweet ending. For me, endings in UT are a big lie. They are just steps in progress to reach final ending of the game: Genocide. To the point, where Frisk is losing SOUL. Chara is taking it. We can't change it anymore. Reset can't fix it anymore. Chara will finish the job after Pacifist (Soulless Pacifist). But why I'm even talking about it? Because it makes Undertale and Deltarune similar in construction. They have rules, if you follow them you're getting good ending of the story. Genocide was never intended to be right way of playing. Even Flowey was begging us to not ruining it. So what is Snowgrave? The same way. Breaking rules, abusing people, making story one big horror. Who can proceed like that? Well, one person who actually killed whole Underground. Soulless being, trapped as essence, wanting to run away. Maybe with fixing errors of the past. Yes, Frisk. I believe, process of making ANOTHER HIM, is disrupted by Chara and these "You can't choice who you are in this world" are not to us, but to Frisk. You won't be Goner, you won't exist. Goner Kid was warning us, Frisk is in world where they cannot exist. This is crazy. Sorry for making these, I just like this theory of mine a lot. :/
The emotion this gives me is.. A lot?? It's nastolgic yet new, sad yet happy, calm yet emotional, as if you know something is coming. It just gives me this heavy feeling in my chest that idek what to do with and not a lot of songs can do that to me. Almost reminds me of the Neon Genesis opening?? Cudos Toby Fox, your music pulls on my heart strings once again
This is what I’ve been trying to say to describe this song ever since I booted up my pc, got that spike of dopamine from seeing that new unplayed chapter, and heard this song
I often listen to this on the bus ride to University. Most of my classes are in the morning when the sun is still rising, and the feeling this one gives is almost… Idk, euphoric? Like I’m nearing the end of some kind of journey It’s very soothing to the anxiety, especially when I know it’ll be a long day
You can distinctively hear how he hits the piano notes (if you ever played on a keyboard or a piano there is this thunk sound that the notes make, if it is an electric one then is even more notorious when is turned off) is a really weird but soothing sound, also because this isnt present in any other song, so is like he recorded himself in fully playing and didnt use an actual music software for it
ive actually recognised the exact instrument he is using, he is using the labs soft piano by spitfire audio the song is digital unfortunatly but the instrument sounds really good doesnt it?
That was the first song that catched my ears out of what I hear from the game.( the other is "Queen") It makes me feel safe, and it's sounds somehow familiar...( And not beacuse it's has the legend's theme in-)
Perhaps because this arrangement is reminiscent of many other emotionally driven themes by Toby. Much like "Undertale", "Home", or "A Town Called Hometown", this theme starts with a simplistic melody that builds into an orchestral arrangement. It has become something of a signature within Toby's arrangements. Very effective to say the least.
No doubt people have already said this, but it would be really cool if this song develops more and more as the town gradually fills up as the chapters go by!
Kris is quite heavily implied to be functioning as a player avatar; in any case the game definitely intends the player to project their own emotions onto (or perhaps, through) the PC. That, combined with the circumstances surrounding Lancer later on (spoilers!), along with dreaming being an important theme, is giving me serious Link's Awakening vibes, and if Kris turns out to actually be autonomous, being controlled unwillingly by the player... well, if I'm right, we're all headed straight into a no-win situation here and Deltarune is going to end up being one hell of an emotional roller coaster by the time it's finished.
The ending muddles things a bit, but the point stands that Kris at least _functions_ as a player avatar 99% of the time, to the point that the other characters lampshade it. That it's easy for the player to put themselves in the PC's shoes is very much an intentional part of the metanarrative, I suspect.
SPOILERS The scene where Susie and Noelle go to the ferris wheel together kinda sounds like the song that plays when Link and Marin sit on the beach in Link's Awakening, 8-bit music can be so emotional.
POV: you are an 80 year old who spent all his life travelling from country to country. all the people you've ever loved have already passed away or are living afar. now you're all alone in a foreign valley thinking about life in a late autumn dusk, wondering if it would have been better if you had never left your home.
This song is so calming. I remember hearing it in the Undertale concert. I would listen to the piano version of this song whenever I got stressed and it got me through a lot of hard times. I was so happy to hear it in deltarune
Something that I havent actually seen anyone point out is that this song actually utilises the leitmotif of the criminally underrated Chaos King theme. Its used throughout nearly the entire song but most clearly resembling it during the part at 1:00
I think it's actually Chaos King the one using a motif of the ORIGINAL Castle Town theme. It's pretty much an iconic Deltarune motif initially assigned to Castle Town. So the reason it plays during the whole song it's because it originates from the CT theme.
this song is so wonderful... Somehow, when I hear it, I tend to reflect on my existence. Of course, in a good way even... It brings me a certain nostalgia to do this, For the sweet sound that the sound has... Only good memories, of a not so distant past, of him in the near future, but far away at the same time... Melodic.
Day 4, Oct 3rd 2022 Welding class was fun today. I'm doing F-2 welds with 7018. They start out good but end a little flat. In Debate, my assistant coach was a guest speaker during class. It's super fun because he is actually a super big deal in the competitive debate scene (I think he is ranked in the top 20 point wise). My piano finally was fixed, and I'm thinking I might want to be a piano technician. It broke after I hit a key too hard in an attempt to make fun of my younger brother for playing the flute poorly (unfortunately, it seems he had the last laugh as I broke my piano). My family did a reunion at a restaurant in celebration of one of my cousins last soccer games, and it was super fun seeing everyone.
How did I listen to this for the full hour without noticing? It felt like 15 minutes at most, and the song never got old. Guess that's a testament to the composition.
Somehow, Undertale and Deltarune 1&2 is the only RPG games that I have finished playing. And i have this feeling where when I finished undertale and deltarune, I kinda feel irritable like I wanna cry out loud with a nostalgic memories I have been through and made with the game. It feels so relaxing to hear this music ones again after finishing deltarune 2 with pacifist route. I wanna cry but I cant, some people might brag that it is only a game, but Im DETERMINDED to enjoy Toby Fox games ones again...
Day 8, Oct 7 2022 Today was super fun. I watched one punch man with my family, and after that my dad took me shopping to some stores around the city. My favorite was an accordion shop. Apparently, accordions are mega expensive, with cheap ones being around $700. I played around on it a little. It is definitely not a super fancy one as it couldn't play a couple of notes, but it was super fun anyways. I think I'll stick with using my dentist's accordion. My dad brought me some beginner accordion books because he actually super likes the accordion. We went to a Japanese store (my dad went on a mission there and had tons of stories about it) and I brought some marble soda. We went to the house we're renting and watched TV with the rest of the family. We all went out to get ice cream later. This is a pretty great vacation so far.

Honestly, this made me bawl. It reminded me theirs good in the world. My life is filled with constant fuckery but this song fills me with so much hope. I'm sure Toby Fox knows to some extent, but he couldn't really know how much his works has saved me. A gentle escape from life. The clicking sound of him pressing the notes feels so raw, so emotional, it's a nice reminder that he's a person. That he isn't an idea, but a person. Very good song.
Day 2, Oct 1st 2022 Played a bit of Destiny 2 today, first with my younger 9 year old cousin, and then with my older brother. Pit of Heresy had been power-creeped out of existence. After that, I watch the new episode of Spy x Family with my family. I played some Slime Rancher 2 and mowed my elderly neighbor's lawn. After that, my extended family was having a big movie night outside with a projector. We watched Hocus Pocus 2, and it was a lot of fun eating dinner, talking to cousins, and watching a new Halloween movie.
this song was so beautiful, calming, and nostalgic, during my first playthrough I had no idea it was a new song. It felt as if I've been listening to this song for my whole life. well done toby fox, you've done it again.

You must be crazy fuckin’ tired to hear lyrics and call this a song

This song really captures the loneliness and hope Ralsei must have felt waiting without any subjects for the heros to arrive, Not knowing what was going to happen.

I can imagine Ralsei, Kris and Sussie laid on the floor doing nothing while this plays, just enjoying the fact that they're there
Calling it now, Next time we head to castle town there's gonna be a slight technological melody in there. We're building up more and more music as the chapters progress much like with Undertales Title music.
Edit 9/15/22: Called it!
Ayyy hopefully Toby Fox does that
Ooh, you might be right! I would absolutely love that.
I can imagine a kid playing Deltarune and having their town grow up with them as the chapters release, until they're in college and finally facing off against Chapter 7's final boss

@@lucylu3342 Awww that would be cute :oD
I love how it is explicitly stated that this is our town now, not kris', with this song also showing that. This is despite seemingly susie, kris, ralsei, and maybe lancer being the ones responsible for saving it. It's the only time our name is mentioned. So I wonder...

This song is so personal, so warm, so safe. It is in a way I can´t explain.

Yes, actually. Listen closely through the section 0:20 - 0:42, though faint, you can hear the sound of the keys moving with small, soft hisses, which are even echoed with the piano.

Such a beautiful and solemn song, a bittersweet melody reminding you that you need to cherish those you care about, and to do so while you still can. Also good for a good nights rest! 10/10
I do kind of wonder why this sounds so melancholy? It's not what I typically imagined "home" would feel like.

(warning, I'm exploring theory of mine which is offtopic actually)
Somewhere else I made comment that Undertale has not many endings.

That was the first song that catched my ears out of what I hear from the game.( the other is "Queen") It makes me feel safe, and it's sounds somehow familiar...( And not beacuse it's has the legend's theme in-)
Right? Like I thought I knew this song too.
possibly because toby played this at the 5th anniversary concert
Perhaps because this arrangement is reminiscent of many other emotionally driven themes by Toby. Much like "Undertale", "Home", or "A Town Called Hometown", this theme starts with a simplistic melody that builds into an orchestral arrangement. It has become something of a signature within Toby's arrangements. Very effective to say the least.
I often just paused my game in Castle town and go AFK just to hear this song. A very relaxing and calming tone
Its only been a few months and this theme feels nostalgic already
I love how melodies can be re arranged to make a totally different song
that's of just as good if not better quality
This aged poorly
@@vism0k wdym? It's true
@@vism0k Because, my dear Yan, Kris is actually [[Hyperlink Blocked]]...
The ending muddles things a bit, but the point stands that Kris at least _functions_ as a player avatar 99% of the time, to the point that the other characters lampshade it. That it's easy for the player to put themselves in the PC's shoes is very much an intentional part of the metanarrative, I suspect.

Same. This song is a masterpiece
But then again, this leitmotif shows up in the track "The Legend" first, before "Empty Town"
The Legend
this song is so wonderful... Somehow, when I hear it, I tend to reflect on my existence. Of course, in a good way even... It brings me a certain nostalgia to do this, For the sweet sound that the sound has... Only good memories, of a not so distant past, of him in the near future, but far away at the same time... Welding class was fun today.
Today was super fun.

The very name of this track is theory fodder "MY castle town" the name implies that the reader owns the town, which is related to what one of the ruddins says in game when you go talk to him in town. He says something along the lines of "ralsei had us change the name of the town to "[BLANK] town"" with the blank being replaced with whatever you named yourself at the start of the game
