Yes, and we all know that in a NYC city apartment everybody had a lumberjack saw just laying around the house in case this happens while you are baking bread.
As an interesting bit of trivia, that was an actual REAL loaf of bread. In rehearsals, they tried fake bread but Lucy didn't think it looked real or believable enough so she wanted the real thing. So this loaf was custom made by a local baker in Los Angeles. It was actually rye bread, not white. At the conclusion of filming the episode, the studio audience was invited to take slices to eat so the bread was distributed among the cast and crew as well as the audience so it would not go to waste.
