  • In this episode of Auto Afflicted: I’m repairing my coupe seats by swapping out the MB-Tex upholstery skins on my ‘88 Mercedes-Benz 300ce W124. I’ll show you how to remove the skins and install newer used ones. This is a great option vs buying a whole set of seats, especially when coupe seats are so rare.

    Very informative video! Just in case anyone is interested the material in doubt is not horse hair but coconut fibers.

      That’s interesting, makes sense seeing how robust the material is

    Thanks for uploading this! In fact, my MB Tex was even worse than yours with larger tears and more of them, on both the bottom and back. It was either a feral raccoon or a toddler with a knife I'm sure. I'm keeping the heated seats so I have some additional work to extract and stitch back in the heating elements, but this gives me enough confidence to try.

      Yes! Glad it gave you confidence, if you can avoid feral raccoons 🦝 all will be smooth

    +1 Wow! .. A timely post as I've begun fitting a drivers (base) seat leather on our '94 C124 Coupe. .. I'd found original OEM leather & components from an MB dealership in Greece via eBay. .. (First rate service by the way) .. The "Seat Repair" video takes a huge amount of guesswork out of the process. .. Many thanks! .. Vail, Colorado

      Wish could have found a leather solution, Glad it was informative! Vail was my snowboard bum home from 93-98

      You found the replacement leather for it?

    • @AutoAfflicted
      @AutoAfflicted  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I replaced with MB Tex. I did find leather replacements but the cost wasn’t reasonable

      @@paypal1229 Yes,,, I found the OEM Creme Beige leather (seat base) via an online MB dealership in Greece. .. OEM Neu packaged in a 1994 dated MB carton. .. When it arrived my expression was; "Well I'll be dipped in shite!" .. How ya like them apples. .. Cheers,

    So very helpful. I have a donor but the connections are different so I can't just pop it in like I would like. You are a good teacher.

      Got it done yesterday. It took me the better part of the day. I used an old batter to touch to motor contacts to move the seat back and forth on tracks. Looks greats thanks again.

    Dang! I've never seen an MB-Tex seat that actually failed in such spectacular fashion.

      Same! This car sat in the Bay Area for 8 years, likely going through tons of heat and moisture cycles - glad to have some soft MB-Tex installed now

    Hi! Can you help me with seat back lock? Both of my backrests are not fixed and recline in both directions without a button. the vacuum seems to be working, the tubes seem to be sealed, but there is no fixation. I didn’t take the seat apart much, I didn’t remove the trim from it, can you give me some advice?

    • @AutoAfflicted
      @AutoAfflicted  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Sounds like it may be disconnected from the motor - you’ll have to pull it apart to see what is actually going on. If the back lock function was the only part failing, it would fold forward but not backwards not recline

    • @Athleticmix
      @Athleticmix Před 10 měsíci +2

      @@AutoAfflicted thank you! where is the motor located? Under the skin? In general, do you recommend removing the seat trim and looking at what's inside? someone told me that it was possible to do something like artificially inject into the system to see how the mechanism works.

    • @AutoAfflicted
      @AutoAfflicted  Před 10 měsíci +1

      You may be able to see what going just by removing the plastic trim. Is it lifting at the front of the seat? Perhaps some screw came out of the frame?

    • @Athleticmix
      @Athleticmix Před 10 měsíci +2

      @@AutoAfflicted hmmm… idk it seemed to be lifting . I have manual seats.

    • @AutoAfflicted
      @AutoAfflicted  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Take the back panel off a see what’s going on inside. That’s easy and should reveal much

    are you sure the old ones were really mbtex?? the pattern almost looked like leather type

    • @AutoAfflicted
      @AutoAfflicted  Před 11 měsíci +2

      I think it was leather, I had thought not just by how it was split and looked like composite material

    • @AutoAfflicted
      @AutoAfflicted  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Hi 👋🏽 as you can see in the video, I purchased a set of sedan seat and moved the skins over. There are company’s that make reproductions skins for $400-900 or more and I’ve heard of people finding skins at MB dealers in the EU . Best of luck on your journey
