“You could have just given Egwene a sword.” That sums up the largest issue with this show.
Is that a euphemism?
@@chrisf2636 That's potentially a hilarious twisty way of seeing it! You need a phallic item to defeat a Forsaken, rendering the female characters impotent and unable to win.
It always amazes me how we live in an age where I actually groan everytime I hear "insert streaming service name here" is adapting a beloved fantasy book series.
I used to wait and hope my favorite books got adaptations. Now I hope for the opposite...
My whole reaction to the lack of a turak fight was “oh come on, I’ve been waiting for this moment all season”
Yeah but Rafe is trying to oneup Rian Johnson in the subverting expectations department. Subverting expectations is the highest form of art, don't you know? Peter Jackson should have killed off Frodo and gave the Ring to Rosie who would then become the Queen of Middle Earth after she makes Sauron tell her that she is so stunning, so brave.
Season? I've been waiting 30 years!
Really? I did not. Rand spent no time training with the sword to do that, apart from the old man in the asylum, so Turak is fine.
Logain gave more training in saidin than Lan in swords, and that leads into Rand's other trainer that is going to come,. Which is why he did not face off against Ishamael in that finale.
"i tried so hard, guys" and "I'm sorry," rubs his eyes. Holy shit I can't believe they really screwed up the chance to make this series awesome for Mat. No one is listening Brandon.
I can imagine the show runner asking Sanderson if he can adapt Mistborn next and getting laughed at
I think that would be a hard pass for Brandon. As should any inquiries from Benioff and/or Weiss.
I think he's eager to have it adopted, but he would demand creative control as well.
I don't think Brandon even gave him permission for wheel of time it was probably Harriet
Man I have so much respect for Brandon. He really tried to do justice to the books and he isn't afraid to openly voice his criticism. But I don't understand Amazon. Why would you bring him on as a consultant in the first place if you think you know better and want to do your own thing... and he is the next best thing to the original author, what makes you think you can do a better job? So stupid that it hurts. At this point I would just love nothing more then for Amazon to stop this whole TV show disaster that they're doing before they ruin any more beloved franchises. Such a shame...
Makes you wonder why mom is fighting them on Stargate now
Why bring him on as a consultant if they're not gonna listen? Simple, so they can use his name to bring in book fans while keeping to their fanfic.
purposeful subversion of western art
@@BlissfullWulf The first season ruined any book fan's perception on wanting to watch this trash. I mean the first 2 episodes of S1 do that.
And sanderson in the full showing of this said it was going to be the last time we see his name in association with WoT TV series, so I'm assuming he refused to "consult" anymore since they never actually listened.
It is baffling to me that they had the content from two books to draw from for this season and they adapted 5% of the content and filled it with Moraine's shoehorned drama. The changes they made to every single character arc in this show makes no sense, and I'm glad that 2/3 of this watch party discussion agrees.
You know the dusty wheel is regretting watching this with Brandon. You can see it on his face. I love the obvious discomfort that he shows here.
dusty wheel is woke first and book fan fourth or fifth on the list. Daniel Greene is wearing a bisexual shirt, so he is woke first as well.
@@jonahdav9589at least Daniel can recognize bad writing. i was starting to wonder til this stream, tho..
@@jonahdav9589 Dude, listen. I agree with you. I read the books and goddamn it, does the show suck. But you have to understand that the show doesn't suck "because it's woke". The show sucks because the writers are bad/or they don't care.
Tell me one scene in this finale or anything about Brandon's complains that have anything to do with "being woke"?
@@mixed6365 sure, challenge accepted:
Egwene saving herself without help.
Egweine saving Rand and fighting Ishamael.
Perrin not having arc.
Moraine destroying all the ships.
Playing fast and loose with their own rules.
And lots of others.
Now, this issue is that you will say all of those are due to poor writing, not wokeness. However, the question is why is the writing bad in a particular way. Is it because of lack of education or experience, lack of understanding of the source material, inability to collaborate well with multiple writers, or (woke) ideology?
Most of the issues originate from the need to follow of the “unwritten rules of wokeness”.
Women don’t need help, they can’t have a white man save them or do anything that they can’t do themselves but better, people are good the way they and therefore don’t need to change and therefore don’t get a character arc (ie you can’t have a story about a fat person that decides to be a great protector hero so they employ discipline and character growth to change who they are and forge their body into one suited for the task, instead they realize that their power lies in accepting the greatness of their greatness and making sure everyone else around them does as well), forced diversity which destroys the rich culture of the setting (not a complaint I heard from BS in this video but one many fans had), also woke ideology is not rooting in truth and facts but rather narrative and feelings, so whatever is convenient at the time is acceptable, leading to playing fast and loose with their own rules.
Does that answer your question?
@@bigd5773 Honestly? No, not really. I'll actually agree with you on the whole Egwene thing, so there, at least you have a point about that plot line. But all other examples you have are you wanting to make It about "woke culture" (I actually laughed at "Perrin not havin am arc", like, how is THAT mess related at ALL with wokeness?)
The fact you kmew I was gonna say most of those things aren't a "woke writing" problem shows that you recognize deep Down that you have to make some mental gymnastics to make that connection. Replace Egwene or Moiraine with white male characters and you'll see that their poor arcs and inconsistencies stil hold up, so would that still be woke? Once again, just to be clear. I am not defending the show and the moments and arcs you mentioned bug me just as much. Also, I'm not saying that the producers, cast dorectiors or whatever aren't "woke people". Of course they are, Rafe himself has a husband, but that in of itself isn't the problem. Incompetent writing is.
It's hard to remember that Wheel of Time was so popular that there are people who didn't actually like it who can call themselves "superfans."
If you need to "fix" the books problems you are not a fan
@@TechnicallyMexican Imagine not understanding quest fantasy 😆
@@TechnicallyMexican- The books aren’t perfect, but that’s also apart of the charm.
@@TechnicallyMexican not true. The villains are awesome in the show.
@@GunnerstahlY LOL no, but I'm glad you enjoyed them, I can't take that away from you.
Matt is so down bad! The biggest show apologist I've seen.
Not included in this video, but Brandon straight up told him to his face that he is blind to flaws cause he wants so badly to like the show.
@@TechnicallyMexican what point in the stream was that? Only watched the end discussion
Had a great time watching this. Never read WoT so I don't get everything but just seeing the pain and intensity in Brandon's voice informs me of so much. I'm actually kind of shocked Brandon would do something like this as I thought he'd always keep his mouth shut rather than be vocal about things he didn't agree with to be polite.
As for the editing I thought this was a step up. "Shill begone" had me laughing out loud. If I could offer critique I might cut back a bit on all the clips but not by much. This is easily your best editing job I've seen. Thanks for the shot of hope.
Yeah, the clips are a hard balance. The more I use the safer I am against copyright strikes.
you should have seen him during season 1. seemed like he was quite determined to not burn his relationships with hollywood. i guess he's choosing to hitch his bets on a different kind of relationship now. i don't care for sanderson.
I really think Brandon was gonna just hold his peace about the show, but the terrible writing in it just pushed him over the edge.
Brandon Sanderson is spot-on. There are a few youtubers with a similar in-depth analysis of the abysmal writing and poor execution of the show, e. g. "The Sword and the Pen Reflections" and "Amy Stewart".
I hate what Judkins did to one of my favorite fantasy series.
@Technically Mexican - this was really well cut and fun to watch. 🙂
Rafe hates the source material. Wish Brandon had fought harder and taken it to social media to rally his fans it may have helped. Rife Rafe! Cancel this darkfiend telling.
The problem is Brandon is such a nice guy he only sees it as inexperience rather than the maliciousness we all know it to be
@@TechnicallyMexican Your video will be my go to response to all the shills. It is the 1990s Buffy stabbing a stake in Rafe and the other marxist showrunners darkfiend hearts.
He was probably under an NDA, since he had access to the scripts.
It’s impossible for someone who read the books, and understood lore, the history, the magic system ,who really loved the story told in the books to enjoy this tv series.
I can’t do it; and furthermore I can’t believe that the show runners actually read and loved those books either!
I think Rafe, at one point, liked the books if he read them in his youth. But the WOKE mind virus destroys everything it touches. It falls apart when confronted with reality and logic. So they, by necessity, have to systematically change reality around them. That's why everything needs to be "fixed", why everything is problematic, and why Comedy is dead, Because what they fear MOST is a mirror. They paint over every reflective surface.
Oh, don't be like that! They did read it and loved it, and now they are doing their fanfic of the books. Watch it like that and you'll be able to enjoy the show. I swear on the Oath Rod, because it's exactly what I am doing. ;D
@@AnaElglin Just cover your eyes and ears and then forget everything you loved about the books and THEN you should be able to enjoy the show!
@@TechnicallyMexicanI remember reading about someone asking Rafe why he changed the books to make even the girls to possibly be the dragon and why he takes some of the moments that belong to the boys and gives them to the girls and his answer was.... BECAUSE I'M A FEMINIST!!!! That tells you everything you need to know.
@@TechnicallyMexican sorry but I don't agree with the whole woke mind stuff. Woke is only used as a term nowadays about things people don't like, there will be one simple change and people will just call it woke because the media has fed them that woke=bad even though it isn't. It can be bad yes, but not always......
I would pay actually money, and commit war crimes for the chance to mst3k this whole series with Sanderson. He is living every fan boys dreams and did an amazing job at it. He KNOWS this story inside out, and to know he was ignored makes me hate these show runners all the more
The Dusty Wheel got those amazon tinted glasses on
This was really funny and vastly improved by the clips and editing. Lol'ed several times.
"I tried guys" - Brandon Sanderson
😂❤😂
The full stream is worth watching. I tried to fit in all the interesting bits here though
@@TechnicallyMexican It was, I watched it live. You covered all the important beats and made it a ton of fun with the meme. Bravo.
Originally I thought Brandon was all on board with the many many changes but this video has restored my respect Brando Sando
There was a non-disparagement clause involved with Season 1. Daniel Greene had the same thing, which he mentioned in his Rings of Power review
@@TechnicallyMexican
Makes sense! Those rat bastards.
They don’t even have to speak out, the content speaks for itself
I have zero reference for WOT( I saw the first episode and thought it was a bad CW fantasy series and didn't continue) but Brandon Sanderson I'm familiar with as I'm a pretty big fan of his work, notably Mistborn and Stormlight. When Brandon says something doesn't work, I usually would be one to listen, considering his experience. And oh yeah; this guy FINISHED the WOT. An incredible honor he got and from what I heard; he did a good job, resolving as many plot, character elements as possible. So really if anything, Brandon is being nice but his criticisms should have been eye-opening for Rafe and everyone involved.
Especially when you contrast that with One Piece live action where everyone involved loved and respected the original material and Oda himself acted like a "guard dog" to make sure it went well.
Rafe was never looking for Brandon's input. The only reason he was involved was so that they could attach his name to the project and give it some validity
Sanderson was also a HUGE WoT Book fan, and RJ is essentially why he realized he wanted to write his own stories and decided to change paths in college, before he ever got the opportunity offered to him.
Short of Harriet herself, Sanderson is literally the best person to be part of the consultation for this show (if being listened to).
What Rafe has done to this series is a Travesty worse than the last season of GoT.
They ruined it, the books are a thousand times better. They took a woke view on it and made a terrible television show. I tried watching it and only made it halfway through the first episode and I stopped watching.
The mind virus destroys everything it touches
Eh wouldn't give woke stuff the blame, because it isn't.
A lot of people still liked the show and so it succeeded in that regard. Also a lot of stuff in the books themselves can also be called woke but that only reveals that people nowadays just call everything woke that they don't like and that is just sad......
Woke is just about accepting people, but it looks like people rather go back to the good old days where they can be racist, sexist and homophobic without a worry in the world, just stomping those "humans" down......
Very, very sad this world has become
@@magnus5747 Amazing, everything you just said is wrong. I have been fighting against racism my entire life, but get called racist for looking beyond the color of a persons skin. The left ONLY cares about skin color, the Democrat party literally founded the KKK. Planned parenthood was created as a eugenics experiment. But go on and keep calling US racist, sexist and homophobic. Your insults have lost all meaning.
@@TechnicallyMexican The Democrats did found the KKK, but that does not excuse the simple fact that the KKK now is in the Republican Party, which is championing all the bad stuff the Forsaken portray in the books.
The OP is not wrong in the post. Not liking woke because it is the in thing these days is risking crossing lines that cannot be undone.
For the show, I am enjoying it, and I have reread the books plenty of times. I appreciate that the books events cannot be showed exactly on screen as they occurred, like the Falme battle.
I even really like the dragon, which is pretty much the banner dragon from the books in fire form. Which explains Aviendha's comment, since she should recognise the form.
what i love, Brandon was personally asked to finish the series. and was adamant on keeping true to everything before. he was trusted with simply finishing a vision he knew wasnt his. and simply wanted to do it justice after the passing of one of his writing heros.... then there's amazon... but we all gotta remember 2 terrible( but hillarious) lord of the rings movies were made 30 years before peter jackson did it right
Brandon told his agent NOT to negotiate a price either. He said, just say yes to whatever they offer.
Thank you for this version! Prophets and the Whitecloaks streams were great but you could not hear Sanderson and crew talking, so this is great.
Thank you I had to do a lot of leveling to get make sure the audio was always audible
the fire salamander always makes me laugh. That's not a dragon. At worst a gecko, at best, a lizard.
I love the Garth Marenghi clips you used!
great video! Brandon snickering as Daniel Green realizes what's happening with the dagger and stick got me pretty good
Lightsaber Ashandarei BABY!
It wasn't just chase the horn! It was also chase the dagger so Mat doesn't die. I'll defend The Great Hunt. Shienarans rule.
I’ve been so busy with work since the show ended and had a bunch of vids regarding the “Sanderson Controversy” in my watch later without any context on what the issue was. This vid is the first I saw on the topic and I am speechless, I never really expected Sanderson to be this blunt but it is such a shitshow. Great job with the editing, this was great. That Dusty Wheel shill is…god help us….
I'm glad it entertained you!
This was pretty brilliant. I laughed out loud at the Galaxy Quest clip "Brandon... garbage!"
"You get nothing!!!" Wish that were the case. Instead, we got a whole lot of crap. What a goofy show.
This was the most cathartic stream of the last few years, and this was a truly outstanding highlight edit. Excellent work, yo.
Shoutout to everyone for making it happen!
The Wheel of Time deserves better, and all the criticisms of the show comes from the hope of improvement. And finally hearing a bit of criticism from all three (four?) of these gentlemen is well overdue.
For my main criticism, whatever complaint for season length falls flat when compared to the ratio of adapted book material vs "originsl material", i'll call it.
Filling gaps is one thing, but you shouldn't build a bridge out of mortar.
9:04
Slight correction to Brandon here, (and potential early book SPOILERS, while trying to keep em vague)
Rand had *two of the best swordsmen in the world train him at this point in the series. Also, the Flame and the Void was perhaps more important than even the Forms taught by Lan. Then again, why even is a Heronmark blade important, anyway..?
Thanks again for this video, yo!
Excellent editing! Makes this so much more fun. Also Brandon Sanderson is a huge boss for doing this. Matt from the Dusty Wheel is the biggest WoT shill on the planet.
Thank you, it's a lot of work
This was awesome and their reactions and critiques pretty much sum up the issues with this adaptation that many of us have. For those that are really enjoying the TV version I'd say one, for you, and two wait until Amazon finishes the whole story, so you have a chance to enjoy the story they are presenting, and then go and read the books to get the original story if you're a reader.
Incredible work Technically Mexican. Keep it up.
Brandon clearly just plain doesn't get that he's talking to people who are battling with their own intergrity, and their need to shill for cooperate overlords.
Brandon is too nice to see that the arguments are not being made in good faith. He attributes to inexperience what we can all clearly see is malice and hatred for the source material.
Greene (the young guy) loves the books. But he's also clearly a social media influencer who's scared of losing his meal ticket.
The WoT Series is EPIC imho. I loved those books and still do. The adaptation failed because they did not even remotely pay attention to the source material. It has always been my hope that the Jordan Estate would have agreed to an Animated adaptation. I know, not very popular...but they could have done a lot more for a lot less and followed the Books.
I love animation, so I would have been fine with it. Unfortunately, DEI has been increasing the cost of animation for years. It can be just as expensive now
@@TechnicallyMexican Samurai Jack animation would have been epic for me...as long as the source material was honored.
Thanks for sharing this clip with us. If I might give this advice, maybe you should cut back on your clips inserts quite a bit. You seem to want to punctuate every sentence from the original clip with your own inserts, and it distracts from what Brandon and company are saying. Let them have 15 sec of discussion or so and then punctuate it with a relevant clip. Also, we don't need the oldschool fuzzy channel transition. It cuts the flow of the discussion even more. Good luck with finding a better balance with you inserts!
Is there an unedited version. The added in reaction clips are over the top for me
The full reaction is on Brandon's channel & The Dusty Wheel's, but it's like a 2 hour stream. This is a supercut.
@@TechnicallyMexican thanks
This is, AMAZING. Bloody hats off MexMan
Thank the Maker for CZcams.
When my favorite source material is transformed into garbage, I don't have to actually watch it happen.
Instead I get the immense pleasure of seeing fellow fans tear it to pieces FOR ME!😅
Brandon be careful you're going to make another man cry in your movie theater XD
I have high hopes that this won't go beyond a Season 4 before getting dropped due to viewers simply losing interest because so much of it makes no sense, or is just outright boring, or just adds nothing to the story.
Season 3 is in production right now but that was approved at the same time as S1. After season 2, Amazon has been dead silent on S4 renewal despite fans BEGGING for an announcement. You can bet they are disappointed with nunbers and are waiting to see how S3 pans out before renewing again. S3 could be the LAST
@@TechnicallyMexicanS3 SHOULD be last more like. Heck, should never have gotten a season 1 in the first place with such writers. Wish the WoT series was adapted in the early 2000s around LOTR time as well as take a note or two from Peter Jackson.
Brandon Sanderson is right 100%
Time well spent.
first time i see one of your videoes, I love the occasional memes but whoa having it every 3-4 sec is so annoying, let the man talk.
It's the only way to keep it fair use man. I literally just had my channel get a false Copyright stike from Amazon that delisted my channel for 2 months for a similar video. If you wanna watch him talk, the full video is on Brandon's channel.
This is absolutely brilliant, thank you for these.
Thank YOU for watching. They take forever to make, so I'm glad they are appreciated. There's LOTs more on the Devoid of Logic playlist
Is there a version without all the edits? I want to hear what Brandon has to say, but I can't finish this
It's 2 hours long and doesn't have the video overlay I added but yes:
czcams.com/users/liveu7d8DYs7G2g?feature=shared
I have to include all the edits so Amazon doesn't strike my channel for 2 months AGAIN.
@@TechnicallyMexican Ah, makes sense. I'll watch the full version. I am glad people are able to get enjoyment out of the edits even when I can't.
Rand facing Turak is _THE ONLY_ time the Heron shows up on the handle of his sword. Every other scene with the sword in both season one and two, it's on the ricasso. He even has to stupidly _hold the blade,_ (laughably), in the finale fight, (if you can call it that), with Ishamael, in order have the Heron branded on his palm. Which means nothing in the show yet, just like the Horn of Bloody Valere meant nothing for it's reveal in EP08 of last season. And the ironically _STUPID_ thing with throwing the Heron on the handle so Turak can see it, is that it amounts to _NOTHING!!!!!_ Why have Turak notice it if they're not going to actually have a sword fight?!?!?! Rafe couldn't write anything good even if his life depended on it.
Watching this on Dusty Wheel's channel I have to say I lost respect for Matt, (The Innkeeper), as he, in opposition to Sanderson himself, argued for the show more often than not.
Perrin shouting to Mat that he has to get the Horn to Rand made one thing glaringly obvious to me, and that's the fact that nowhere in this episode, or a previous episode, do we learn that Perrin or Mat are aware Rand is in Falme. They had no idea he was there.
Elayne be like, "I used to be an adventurer like you, until I took an arrow in the knee".........
Well put together, @Technically Mexican. "YOU GET...NOTHING!!!"
Excellantly done. Enjoyed this very much.
Enjoy the show!
Fantastic editing and man some of your clip pulls are wonderfully obscure 🤩
At first I was kind of dreading the thought of having to see clips every ten seconds throughout, but damnit you chose funny clips. And the sarcasm was off the charts 😄, Kudos.
Some people don't like them, but it's how I make the video fair use. I'm glad you enjoyed the show.
I was doing fine until "I HATED JIM!" broke me.
I love that Brandon uses his real name too, it shows how much he cared about him
Brandon Sanderson is a legend.
And this is him trying to be NICE to the show so he doesn't offend anybody.
@@TechnicallyMexican really loved this video. It was so refreshing to see Sanderson finally be honest about what he clearly understands to be a failed adaptation. I guess he isnt as concerned with Amazon Prime taking the reins with Stormlight anymore after seeing the type of dross they are prepared to release. Thanks for putting this together.
I hate what theyve done to this show. 😔😔😔
What drove me nuts is the guy in the middle claims to be a fan of the book but he trashes it the whole time! He also says the shows does many things better than
It's worse... That is Matt Hatch and he was actually honored with a cameo character NAMED AFTER HIM in the books, and he now turns around to disrespect the books like this.
I didn’t have the time to watch this entire stream, though I really wanted to so I’m glad you did a mashup of it… I’m blown away at how much of a shill The dusty wheel is. He’s a Rafe Judkins groupie.
It's pretty embarasing
Rafe Judkins is clueless and a bad writer. Brandon Sanderson explains it quite clearly - Bad or no archs, no themes, and everything deep in the books are either not included, misunderstood or changed for what the producers thinks looks cool. I really, really hope someone important at Amazon Prime sees this and takes note.
They already rewarded him with ANOTHER show. He's doing God of War now too
If a show on Amazon/Netflix/Disney adapts a show and it is to the source material, it is an accident. They are actively in this for one real purpose, 1984 wrongthink and cultural replacement.
@@TechnicallyMexican I guess that seems like something that might be more his speed.
@@TechnicallyMexican We can always hope Prime will sideline or even fire him after this disaster.
I love this video so much.
Whoever edited this video needs a raise! 😂
Thank you, it's just me, though. I do everything on the channel. Which is my my videos take so long
It was really cool to watch the commentary by Brandon, Daniel and that one guy with the below 80 IQ.
My favorite living author finally sits down and offers his honest opinion on the lazy and misguided adaptation of my favorite book series.
I think he did anyway. Hard to tell, because of the jagged and jarring video drops every ten seconds. What was he just saying ? I forget. Because now there's a kitten playing piano!
#fanditthis !
I've been a huge fan of Neablis and Daniel for years. So i say this with love; You've got Sanderson in your studio. Brandlon Effing Sanderson! Let him talk !
I just started reading the books and can see that this series adaptation is lacking good writing.
Can't bring myself to even hate watch this series.
I feel it my duty to watch. Someone has to hold them accountable.
@@TechnicallyMexican Thanks for taking one for the team :0)
yup after watching the first 7 ep of s1 yup the characters are in it really summed up my experience as a book fan
In name only
@@TechnicallyMexican Exactly on the bright side it did gave me an urge to re read the first book again but yea I'm never giving this show a 2nd chance. Id check out a different adaptation in the future if some other studio wants to adapt WoT hopefully with a dedicated vision of being as faithful to the source material's spirit story and characters of RJ as well Word of The Rings movie Trilogy tried to be for Tolkin.
This was awesome to watch thank you, also
Would anybody else like to see the writers and creators of the animated series the last arabender do an honest anamayed adaptation of the wheel at time?
They went woke with Korra too though, so that's a no for me. I don't k ow who I'd trust it with if I was in charge.
@TechnicallyMexican o well that's a bummer.
Still I think a well done animated series would be worth while
I didn't read the books and even I felt surprised that it wasn't Nyneave who healed Rand - or anyone in this episode for that matter.
I also didn't feel like the horn was set up well enough.
I was sad when Hopper died, but maybe more because I love animals and less because of the relationship he had with Perrin. I honestly thought he wouldn't die because the relationship didn't feel like it had developed enough. It mostly consisted of Perrin telling Hopper to "stay", when he went somehwere.
I personally didn't mind Egwane freeing herself because they made her arc this season about "will she break or won't she?" and to that it fits. Additionally, she started off feeling inferior to Nyneave and could now kinda prove just how strong she is.
Nonetheless, it was weird how she could hold of Ishamael. It wasn't very believable that he couldn't do anything to get around that shield, not based on how he and Lanfear were set up.
Overall I do agree that this finale didn't really land for me. There were many episodes this season which I enjoyed far more. And it seems pretty obvious that they do need more episodes, eight just isn't enough.
Rightfully so considering the show showed Nynaeve do some world (and lore) breaking healing in S1, just to have her do absolutely shit all.
Now I kinda wish I would have watched the video. I didn't think Brandon was going to be that vocal.
MAGNIFICENT! COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT BETTER MYSELF. Oh,, wait, I DID!!
You are a clip master!
The middle dude is so annoying lmao. That's why we should stay away from drugs people, you end up with 1 working brain cell.
Matt Hatch of The Dusty Wheel. He has a character named after HIM in the books. But he's so blind by wokeness, he's willing to sell his birthright for a mess of pottage...
Dude in the middle trying to justify this show is actually so fucking annoying. You can like it while still pointing out it's faults (to each their own if you somehow like this show), but to just completely SHILL over it, is wild af.
And I can see why Sanderson in the original video said it was gonna be the last time you see his name pop up now. What is the point of being a consultant for a show if they NEVER listen to what you say and continually butcher the material? lmao.
Love this compilation of Brandon Sanderson talking about the Wheel of Time show but the little meme reaction clips are really annoying
I get that a lot, it's not for everybody.
You should check out the full livestream: czcams.com/users/liveu7d8DYs7G2g?feature=shared
It's long but worth it
I have to admit, it felt really good to see some of my own concerns and complaints about the show mirrored almost exactly by Brandon Sanderson. I am so tired of the unearned Girl Power BS in modern media. I absolutely despised the first scene in season 1 episode 1 where Nynaeve pushes Egwene into the river. It just felt so out of character for Nynaeve to do something like that. I felt Season 2 redeemed a lot of where Season 1 went wrong, and was more than satisfied with the events of season 2, up until episode 8. Then it completely backslid to the garbage that had been season 1.
I like what Sanderson said, about the overarching narrative of Wheel of Time. "You can't do it alone." It would be nice if the show writers would acknowledge that. Each character has their own theme, their own story arc, and own personalities and methods to go with it. I LOVE Mat in season 2. It felt like the Mat from the books.
This show isn't its own thing. It is a television adaptation of the Wheel of Time novels. That's how it was marketed, that's how it was sold, and that's why people tuned in. To adapt it so poorly that it isn't even the same story anymore shouldn't be given a pass. It gives the talentless hacks that made this show and their ilk license to keep doing the same thing in the future. It's time to stop sugar-coating it. People are pissed that the properties they love are being systematically re-written, ripped-off, or just plain retconned into worse versions of their former selves, all for the sake of a few dollars and some Hollywood producer's already overinflated ego. I'm glad videos like this - voicing displeasure with such flagrant abuses of beloved stories - are becoming more commonplace, but I think this was still too polite for what this garbage deserves. I think people should stop making excuses for this stuff, leave honest feedback, and above all else, stop spending their hard earned money and limited time on products that don't deliver what they promise.
Came for the edits. Stayed for the edits. Especially the jesus christ Superstar clip.
A couple Jesus Christ Superstar clips also made it into my edit for Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Hell yes. Hahahah!
Ok. I understand that this a fanfiction about WoT, so I was not so upset about all the changes and gaps and twisting of characters. I actually liked the ep, especially when Perrin shows up with Uno's shield to help Egwene block Ishamael's channeling, with all the TR five together. I missed the battle in the sky, though. The thing that really bothered me most was Nynaeve thrusting the dart through Elayne's leg WITHOUT taking out the feathers! Haven't the showrunners never watched a western? Geezzzzz!
Wayyy to many random „commentary“ clips in this one. There are a few mildly funny ones but it gets old after like one minute. My advice would be to turn it down a notch next time
Lol at the Daniel shade
Can someone elaborate more on the topic, losing once power is a distraction? Why is it not such a good idea ?
It created a stupid "we are mad at each other" plot pine between Lan and Moiraine that is not in the books and ate up precious screentime that should have been used developing the main characters.
Adituonally, it is derivative of similar plot lines that happen later in the books that will now be less effective/repetitive. Lan grieving loss of the bond is now going to be pointless come the events of book 5.
@@TechnicallyMexican I see thank you
@@TechnicallyMexican I can't imagine them doing those events from book 5. I think the Finn are going to be removed completely (they've already found another way to give Mat his weapon) and Lanfear is going to have a redemption arc. They'll create some other contrived drama to keep Moiraine a main character when she should be MIA through the twisted doorway.
@@davekendall5273 OF COURSE they are not going to remove their MAIN Character from the show for 6 seasons, you are absolutely correct.
Yeah, Matt has a$sonic screw driver
It is so disappointing that we finally get an adaptation of the books and it is being done by people that seemingly lack logic, vision, and talent, but still think they are better writers than the authors that sold millions of each one of these books. Wheel of time is not Game of Thrones and that tone is all wrong for it, it is much closer to Lord of the Rings and the people responsible for this show should have taken a page out of Peter Jackson's book on how to adapt this type of book series to make it entertaining and successful. Hopefully some day someone talented will come along and do a good adaptation of Wheel of time, live action or animated, that will stay true to the books but I am afraid this horrible adaptation may kill any chance of seeing a quality interpretation of the books in the future.
With all of the obvious misandry* and deviation from key storylines, it was tough not to be excited about Rand using the one power to wreck high lord Turak..
Based. Liked and subbed.
Who is the guy in the middle?
Matt Hatch
Despite how much I disagree with Brandon, I'm not surprised we agree about this awful show.
I tried, really tried to watch the first show of season 1. I made it for about 20 minutes before needing to rush to empty the contents of my stomach into the porcelain receptacle. Even watching this vid of you discussing it gives me the dry heaves. I'll stick with the books.
Good Lord, who's that dude in the middle?
Matt Hatch from The Dusty Wheel. Also Brandon's employee, he helps with his CZcams channel.
I think I'd have liked this video more with less cuts from other things... just cause the commercials just make it too much. But interesting
Did the guy in the middle even read the books at all?
He's literally IN the books, Matt Hatch of The Dusty Wheel...
It was really hard to keep up with your feedback being interrupted by edited clips. Sure, they were funny, but it felt like someone was really determined to not let you finish talking.
This was difficult to watch. It was distracting with all the edits!
Finally, Brandon realized that money isn't worth dignity and trashing his name.
The guy in the middle though...
The guy on the left is on a crossroads. He can end up like guy in the middle or Brandon.
They all WANT to like the show. Brandon because he loves the books, the other 2 because they love the identity politics. They are at war with themselves
"The guy on the left" is Daniel Greene, only one of the biggest booktuber on CZcams. He is a hardcore fan of WoT books. So let's just say, he is a positive man and it's hard to get him to create hate content but knows the books as much as BrandoSando... oh yes, and he is an author too, so he knows a thing or two. He is there bc he earned to be there. As for Sanderson... he never went for the money. He is well known for be a humble man. He became successful? Yes. He sold his books cheap and left it like this? No. He is under discussion and he didn't leave his books out of his hands. He won't sign anything until he is involved to the making. That's a fact. We know everything about the project as it progresses.
It's a really bad adaptation, but it's not an awful show on its own. It's average overall and I imagine for people who haven't read the books that it could be fun and interesting. The main critique I have is how much thematic depth is missing from the show, it's too surface level and that's probably a result of straying from the source material.
adaptations don't work if the writers don't respect the material. Why this and the ROP suck.
could tell from the first trailer the main characters were going to be the side characters and the Females would be the main focus of the series.
While i agree this season was boring, the edits are kinda mean to the dude in the middle, poor guy was trying his best to find something to enjoy in the snoozefest.
I tried so hard to give the show a chance. I forced myself to finish season 2, but I am done with it now. There's the whole "It's not like the book" aspect, but there's so much other absolute nonsense that makes it a bad show.
I always judge adaptations twice: Is this a good adaptation? And is this a good show? The Wheel of Time fails on BOTH accounts
I find, your cut ins from other fulms or series every three seconds very disturbing. I would have preferred to listen to what Sanderson has to say without constant interruptions.
then watch the source
How irritating are all these film and cartoon cuts? Or is it me?
I tried watching this, but the constant cuts to unrelated clips made it very distracting. Then I read a commet where you say you do this to avoid copyright. There's a million easier ways to do it, just add a filter to it or crop it a bit. You also said "go watch the stream" but your streams are very unorganized and I just lost interest. I hope you have a brigth future, take this as constructive criticism
hahahaha😅🤣😂🤣😅
Idk who the guy in the middle is but im getting very "devils advocate" vibes. Like im not convinced he actually means it when he said he enjoys a part. Loved sandersons input here though.
Dusty Wheel is a shill so he's forced to push back. I don't think he expected both Daniel and Brandon to give critical comments.
