Matchday 1 of the Women Super League saw Emma Hayes' side try to defend their title of Champions of England. Chelsea Women faced the newly promoted Liverpool Women at Prenton Park which ended 2-1 in favor of Liverpool. All three goals came from the penalty spot, Fran Kirby took Chelsea's while Katie Stengel got a brace for Liverpool from the spot.
