      I'd argue that, given longevity and being able to keep their voice, Michael Kiske is better, IMO. They were neck and neck, and he and Kai Hansen/Weikath were just as formidable a writing team.

      FatalPies Keep telling yourself that. Midnight was a lot better. Here is why. I put the “Painted Skies” vocal up against anything Tate has ever sang. Cant compare. As a bonus ass kicking to Tate I will crank “Lost Reflection.” That level of emotional singing is unmatched by anyone. Tate never could convey raw emotion on the level Midnight could so easily. To further prove my point. Imagine Tate singing Crimson Glory songs. Now.... imagine Midnight singing QR songs. Okay, I am done.

    I have seen Queensryche 13 times and every time have been blown away by Geoff’s voice and charisma on stage. I got the chance to meet him before a concert. I was too scared to ask for a pic with him, so somebody yelled out, “Geoff, she wants a picture with you!” He turned around and gave me one of his grins and said “ Sure” then put his arm around me! I think I went to heaven at that point,lol. Then at the concert I was about 50 feet from the stage(small venue), he looked at me once or twice and give the same grin. I swear, the best concert I have ever been to!
    It is too bad kids now will never know the feeling of an arena concert or even a small venue concert because of everything going on. I am so glad I grew up in the 80’s and was able to go to them.

      Which is why everyone mentions Silent Lucidity. It is a straight ballad, not a power ballad, a straight ballad. Thus, it appeals to a much wider audience It is great lyrically, but musically, I think it is the weakest cut on Empire . Best I Can, The Thin Line, Another Rainy Night, Empire, Hand on Heart, Anybody Listening and, especially, Jet City Woman are all much better songs musically. When I heard Silent Lucidity, I held off purchasing Empire. Then I heard Jet City Woman and realized it was just an aberration. Queensryche was still rocking the same way.

    @Adrian-gs9er Před 3 lety +19

    As for Geoff Tate's current singing, this style of singing is very heavy on mixed voice/head voice technique and caused him serious problems later on. One critique I've heard is that it relies on something called early bridging, which over time can seriously damage your voice.
    Unfortunately, Geoff Tate started getting dysphonia just a few years after singing like this because of the frequency and intensity of touring. He could no long crush those E naturals, and opted for a lower singing register. You can hear his style change in silent lucidity and later songs. A fun rabbit hole to go down is watching bootlegs of this time period and watching how his voice responds from years of intense singing. It's a real problem for singers-- who push the limits of singing itself to sustain a touring frequency and lifestyle. Maybe someday people will figure out a cure for that, because I'm really bothered by our favorite singers losing their wings.

    We need a reaction video to your reactions lol. You can see the joy and inspiration that music brings to you. Very nice to see and fun to watch.

    I love your channel and your reactions. Tate is a total beast of a vocalist, wish i could have seen him live.
    If you are looking for reaction ideas for tracks that have a strong vocalist, and an awesome track then I can recommend Michael Kiske, He's German and been doing this for over 30 years and his voice is as good today as it was when he started
    Unisonic - Exceptional - Live at Wacken Open Air 2016
    or
    Helloween - Keeper Of The Seven Keys (United Alive) - however this track is quite long

    It's one thing to be able to sing something like this. It's a whole other level to write something like this knowing you'll have to sing it night after night.

    I heard Geoff say he was a keyboardist. A friend of his needed a singer. So he just did it. From there we got this amazing, unique badass voice.
