According to Jon Lovitz in an interview with the AV Club Nicolas Cage really did take over directing because George Gallos was telling everyone to do whatever they wanted and that made everyone mad because he wasn’t giving direction on set. Also during the filming of this movie George Gallo wrote Bad Boys with Jon Lovitz and Dana Carvey in mind but his script for that movie was awful and after this movie bombed they rewrote Bad Boys and cast Will Smith and Martin Lawrence instead

Carvey & Lovitz did a Miami FL 🏈 Super Bowl ad for AmEx 💳 which is the reason they were considered for Bad Boys 1994 first. The actors wanted $ so the studio execs re did the story: characters for a younger Will Smith, Martin Lawrence.

I actually grew up in the town that Trapped in Paradise was partially filmed in (coincidentally the same filming location for An American Christmas Carol - Elora, Ontario). Here's a random story... at one point in the film there's a three-legged dog that appears. That dog, Tripod, belonged to the local doctor. The crew saw the dog & his owner watching them filming once & decided to put Tripod in the film.

I honestly don't think he should get as much flake as he does. There is a GQ interview on here with him, and it's obvious he has a very deep and intimate knowledge and understanding of the art of acting. A lot of the things he does in film is a throw back to much older films or actors. But even without that, as you said, he always puts in effort. Even in all those very low budget movies he so often does now.
I kinda wish he would have got some of Liam Neeson's action roles in the last ten years. 90's action Cage was the best :D

This movie used to show up at least once a year back when I used to live in Quebec and I'd watch it with my family and I loved it. While I still think the film is funny, maybe it's just me, but I also feel like there's some surprisingly emotional bits in it because I think at some point in life, some, if not many of us met some people that really are as kind, welcoming, helpful and generous as some of the characters shown in the movie so I think it does kindda have some of that Christmas spirit in it.

Yea I felt like it was really sweet in a way and I actually liked the family dynamics as well as the town changing the three brothers. I like how once they’re able to see the aftermath of their actions they realize what they’re really doing and can’t keep justifying it... because I feel like a lot of people just turn a blind eye to the consequences of their actions until it’s right in front of them.

I live in one of the towns that this movie was filmed in, Niagara-On-The-Lake. It was kind of a big deal at the time it was filming, an uncle of a friend of mine actually ended up as an extra in it (I believe he was one of the police officers in the police station scenes). I, unfortunately, didn't get to see the movie until it was out on video, but my family had a blast picking out all the familiar landmarks. The bank was the old courthouse (it also served as a theatre for a while, part of the Shaw Festival), the restaurant they end up in after robbing the bank is The Stagecoach Restaurant (known affectionately by the locals as "The Roach"), and the bank manager's house is someone's actual house in NOTL (it's not far from the courthouse).
Speaking of familiar locations, my old high school, Niagara District Secondary School, served as the police station I mentioned earlier. It's actually kind of weird because they really didn't dress it up that well and it's still very obviously a high school. The main office of the police station is the school's gym, and in some scenes you can still see our mascot, the Trojan, printed on some background objects.
A couple other memories I have: At one point, a fuel truck labeled "Gales Fuels" passes the camera during a long shot. Gales is a chain of gas stations prevalent in the Niagara region, and the Gale family lives in Niagara-On-The-Lake. The original owner, Bob Gale, is now a councilor for the city of Niagara Falls. His daughter took over the business from him. The other memory I have is that, while filming, there wasn't enough snow on the ground, so the prop department had to used potato flakes to simulate it. After filming finished, any leftover potato flakes started turning green and moldy, which kind of left a lot of people annoyed and grossed out.

Last year I started a tradition of watching 12 nights of Christmas Movies counting down to Christmas. They also had to be 12 movies I have never seen before.
This was tonight’s movie as I stumbled under upon it on Disney+. The movie just didn’t do it for me at all, but to each their own it seems it’s more well known and loved then I thought. I was 8 when this movie come out and do not recall it ever coming out or hearing about it.

I movie hopped with my family and end up watching midway this film. Remembered years later for its Christmas nostalgia and found out the title again when searching Jon Lovitz.
Been playing the dvd while working at home almost everyday this Dec. The music score was way too good.
    Thanks for reviewing this movie!

This movie felt like an SNL film from a skit that never existed. A movie starring these three COULD have worked though in the right creative hands. I believe that

I saw this in the movies it's opening week... I loved this from the first time I saw it and still quote it to this day... it's zany and ridiculous... the performances are exaggerated and over the top... the plot is crazy and I think it's all hysterical... I still can't see scallions in a dish without yelling out, "it's got SCALLIONS"!...
I still say, "alright you fashion queen"!... absolutely consider this a classic ... Fine Holiday Fun! 🎅🤶☃️🌲🤣

There are some underrated 90s Christmas films such as this film, The Ref and Mixed Nuts which I think have been forgotten about primarily because they are rather mean spirited and most people don't find bank robbing, kidnapping and mental health issues funny and part of the whole spirit of christmas which is a shame as these three films do have a heart and there is some redemption with the characters in the end

7:35. This makes sense now. There was no director in to reign in Cage's over-the-top-ness.
