@@martinlahaie6012 sure thing! It’s from the amp. No pedal at all. I will turn it down for the next videos. Thanks for flagging this up. Let me know if you have any other suggestions so I can try to make the videos better 😃
In your opinion, would this pedal be better suited for a solid state amp? I find a lot of pedals that are trying to get a specific sound usually do better in solid state amp than tube amps. That could just be me though.
Hi Jeremy, Thank you for your question. I think it sounds better on a Tube Amp, as Devyn previously said. But to me, this Amp + Gear is something very particular, so it moight worth to test that out and choose your preference.
@@juliocesarpetrini_guitar Thanks for both of your replies. Currently I am running a rig that mainly consists of a Les Paul and a Marshall DSL40, which as I am sure everyone knows is a fairly high gain amp in its own right. I mainly just boost with a SD-1 in the front. Is the 5150 OD pedal more a distortion pedal? So, how would I go about using it if I wanted to get that brown sound? In the front on the clean, as a boost or in the efx loop? That's why I asked, for me, it just seems easier to put in my solid state amp. haha
I would say this is more like an Overdrive Pedal which can easily turn into a High Gain pedal due to the drive settings + booster. Most of the time I use it on the clean channel, switching in between the Clean and the 5150 drive. I have a Marshall DSL20 and I tried to use as a boost on the red channel, but to me, the Marshall Drive has more bass and less Mid, so when I kick the pedal in as a boost, it changes a bit the Tone with more mids (which I prefer), but it sounds different from the red channel drive.
Thanks for the responses. For me, I think this pedal will not be a good use of $200. Much like the BE-OD, people are using these "amp in a box" pedals to recreate a sound I am already getting for the most part. Just using a combination of an SD-1, EQ and Compresson/Sustainer pedal in the 4 different channels I am getting in this amp is a lot of different sounds. Again, thanks for responding and creating this content!
No, it’s not noisy, but It depended on how you set the Noise Gate. If you set it 100%, then it’s completely silent when not playing. I usually set between 60% and 80% as I mentioned in the video just to be able to add more dinâmica in the lead guitar when I want to play a muted or soft note with the pick.
It's too buzzy.fizzy. The Bass didn't seem to do shit. The reverb evidently is too much. If the cost is significant also, you're better off rolling it over into a Modeler and not a one trick pony. Crap and waste of money imo. They could have done a much better design.
I think they could make a boost button like the other button, to be switched with your foot when playing. You either turn it off or on with your fingers, and to me it’s not so intuitive. The drive is also not my favorite, I really like it, but I think this fuzzy thing comes from Van Halen Brown Sound, I don’t know. Regarding the Reverb, it was from my amp which I already turned off 😄 Let me know if you have any other suggestion to improve my videos. I will really appreciate it 🙂
The best overdrive/distortion pedal ever made.
Indeed 🔥🎸
Great video man! Awesome playing and lots of versatility from this pedal.
Thanks a lot, Tyler. Glad you enjoy the review 🙂
This Pedal is pure magic. We can play from a smooth blues to a heavy metal with it. Really versatile.
Great pedal, i have one on my board, it does the EVH blue channel sound very well.
Yeah, this is a great pedal, indeed!
I love its drive specially when it’s set with high gain.
Very cool bro
Thanks a lot!
Glad you like it!
I own this pedal along with the rest of the evh pedals in this pedal particular is awesome and it's my favorite pedal to 🤘🏻
Awesome!
I don’t have any other pedals from EVH, but soon I would like to get the Frankenstrat. It’s an insane guitar 🔥🎸
EVH Pedal review by Wolfgang Van Halen! (look-alike) :)
Hahaha That's awesome!

Man turn down that reverb....
It’s actually set as 2/10
@@juliocesarpetrini_guitar that's a pretty reverby reverb then...😁

Just a signature pedal

For me, it sounded way better through my old Bugera V22 Tube amp than my Solid state JC120.

Is the pedal noisy when not playing? Loud hum from the gain?

absolutely none, especially if you have good quality psu
Eddie Van Halen said he never owned any kind of distortion or overdrive pedal...
You're absolutely right.; He didn't.
The Pedal has his Overdrive tone which came from the Amps he used to play with.
But he sold a few...😏
They were lend to him
Actually, not only did Ed use a SD-1 Overdrive Pedal, but he also talked about it in interviews.
