That’s the story, I was at the show looking at it, talking to the owner and a guy stopped by and said he was a kid when he remembered his dad restoring it. So it checks out.
That's a beautiful Rock Island Heider, especially for a restoration done in 1986! Great acquisition for your aunt and uncle. And nice job getting it to run! Thanks for sharing. 🇺🇲🚜👍
good to see it run! that was a good pickup I think, the resto has held up really well. I have a picture somewhere of this one back in the 60's? at a state exhibition. I'll have to find and send it to you, it had the same governor on it back then.
I don’t think it’s had many hours put on it since the resto. There is still paint on the inside of the friction flywheels and gears. It has a few issues that need to be addressed but overall very nice. Any history you have on this tractor they would appreciate it very much! Thanks Paul.
I like playing with the old stuff. Should be recording, then if that 478ci Waukesha decides to break my arm while cranking it I could see the moment it happens 🤣 (kidding, I use extreme caution running the crank) Thanks Ed
Probably not, one of the bull gears is worn pretty sharp and the other drive gear needs some adjustment. So probably no pulling, maybe some belt work? Might be good for it.
My new pistons should be made in the next 4 weeks. Babbitt work is being done now. Hoping to have all my parts here by the end of the year. Will see how it goes together hopefully running by spring.
The bull gears are really worn, I’d hate to chip or break what’s left of them. Maybe one pass… until one day they get replaced. I definitely like to use the stuff vs leaving it sit around. Will be looking for belt work for sure!
@@crazydave4455 It 's motor runs well enough. Other than the missing water pump, it needs the radiator lower tank replaced, it's really bad. And it needs the fibre clutch replaced, it's worn down to the metal back up ring. I think it was only used on a feed grinder for most of it's working life as the gearing shows no wear. At some point the pump was removed and a sprayer pump was cobbled on, also that add on stopped the motor from being able to shift forward or back, rendering the tractor into a stationary power.
@@frankwurth5375 interesting! Do you know Paul Searl ? He keeps a registry of all the Heider / Rock Island stuff, does a lot with the history. Paper Pulleys sells the friction discs. Would be interested in seeing pictures of it, as I put mine back together, to compare original features. Are you in MN?
@@crazydave4455 Yes ,I know Paul. I think this one was repainted back in the 50s. I know about Paper Pulleys, just haven't had the time and money to spare lately. I'm located in Southern Illinois.
I didn't think tractors were restored to that level in 1986. Very nice!

That’s damn sharp for being done 36 years ago
Held up well. I don’t think it was run much after the resto. Still paint in places it should be worn off.
Great to see such an unusual old tractor out running !
Thanks, was fun to work on.
very nice paint on the old girl!! l will be watchin!!
Hi Gary, how's things going with you? Good I hope.

These old ones are so cool 😎 but they are a lot of work!
Thanks Hyatt
That is beautiful !!
Companies sure knew how to make anything festive looking.
Definitely tried to make their brand stand out.
Awesome to see it started up running like a top
Needs a little tweaking but it’s solid !
Pretty neat to see one like that and running.
That is cool Dave! Thanks for sharing!👌
Think she’d handle the hills around your place? 😂
@@crazydave4455 lol maybe?
That is one awesome looking tractor
Breathtakingly beautiful 😮
Nice to see it running great job on the restoration
This one isn’t mine, mine is still in pieces. My aunt and uncle picked this up at a show this summer.
Very nice machine, sounds like it runs really well!!
👍

Wow very very cool !
Awesome Dave!!! Evening if it's not yours.
So easy to get caught up in it, it's a wonder you filmed anything at all..
Thank you!!

A running one😳👍😁
Yeah, I would have been money ahead buying that one…

Thanks for sharing, awesome to see older equipment running again. Any ideas how long before you get your tractor going? Thanks Michael

When you get yours running is there a chance it will work at plow day?

Can you make some more videos
I’ll try and get something up sometime soon. Been a busy spring around here.
Have a model D myself. It's missing the water pump.
The D pumps are smaller and I guess hard to find. Mine needed to be repaired. There aren’t many Ds around, curious what shape yours is in.
