We already went thru this with Ronald RayGun. He wanted to put laser weapons to use in space any where in the world at any given moment.
Great concept but very hard to implement with get any accuracy and or reliability for long term usage.
Most high powered lasers use exray beam power and to obtain that takes special lenses, gases, mirrors, power and critical adjustments!
They tried this with a 747 Air Borne Laser using tiny formable piezo crystal mirrors but the landings and take-offs caused some major hurdles!
