  • Paul Klee was born in Munchenbuchsee, Switzerland, and is considered both a German and a Swiss painter. His highly individual style was influenced by movements in art that included expressionism, cubism, and surrealism. He was also a student of orientalism. Klee was a natural draftsman who experimented with and eventually mastered colour theory, and wrote extensively about it; his lectures Writings on Form and Design Theory (Schriften zur Form und Gestaltungslehre), published in English as the Paul Klee Notebooks, are considered so important for modern art that they are compared to the importance that Leonardo da Vinci's A Treatise on Painting had for Renaissance. He and his colleague, the Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky, both taught at the German Bauhaus school of art, design and architecture. His works reflect his dry humor and his sometimes childlike perspective, his personal moods and beliefs, and his musicality.

Some of the paintings are so mesmerising, they draw you into a mysterious world.

Often dreamlike paintings with many aspects- One person can be seen as two, a fish can contain another, a cat is thinking of a bird. Arrows, numbers, words or symbols add intriguing elements. I really love the paintings in which small brushstrokes resemble mosaic pieces, often with hidden images within the layers of color.
Thank you for this video and the others which give us a chance to experience so many great painters.

All seem too bright, and the colors are saturated. I wish they were as they were.

He tried to get his own style snd in some paintings quite good in some other a bit anonymus. The use of colors sometimes more soft makes on my opinion some paintings less beautiful and impressive. Probably to catch sorr of realism and mistery or just the choice of different colors made on purpose. Very moody very clear the style of sn abstractism more romsntic less glamourous.
