    One way to play faster on the guitar is to play a song as slow as you can without missing a note, then speed up your playing a little bit to where you don't miss a note, keep pushing the speed to where you can play without mistakes and you are golden. You can even try it with the justin guitar track you showed us on guitar pro, turn up the speed (tempo) on guitar pro each time you nail it down. Hope it helps! since you have helped me a lot of times!

      You can do it! I had zero experience. The only goal is to fit in 2 hours of practice every day. It will be frustrating in the beginning, but if you just focus on achieving 30 days of practice you'll be so happy by the end. Yes it puts you in Follow State, which is magical. You just play without thinking after a while. It is amazing!

    Hello Derek, as you can see from my profile photo I am a musician (and now a Software Development student... haha... I'm atending a course of Object Oriented Design this year). I don't consider myself an expert musician (it all begun like a hobby) but from my experience, the best way to play faster (whatever it is what you are wanting to play) is repetition... exhaustive and boring repetition... haha... and your muscle memory will build up the speed for you. If you try (or force yourself) to play faster you run the risk of getting innecesary tension on your fingers and that could prevent you from getting the speed you wish.
    I don't know if somebody else had comented to you on the same topic, but I feel lazy to read all the coments :-).
    I hope is of utility to you as your software courses are to me!... your courses are really great!!!
    Cheers!

      Thank you very much for the help :) I'm happy you have found my videos useful. Yes I'm doing just that for all my chords actually right now. (I took a break because my hands were cramping) I'm also trying to find a trick for instantly finding every note on the fretboard. I know a lot of them, but of course I want them to be 100% subconscious. I started using mnemonics and then just subconsciously learning through songs. I'm now considering memorizing 5 numbers for every note like A is 5, 210, 32, 47, and 50 if that makes sense? Any way if you have any tips they are greatly welcomed.

    • @Kevinschart
      @Kevinschart Před rokem

      @@derekbanas There's no trick to finding the notes on the fretboard. You just have to practice everyday. Then one day you'll wake up and it will be easy.
      How I learned the notes:
      Step 1: Write down all notes around the circle of 5ths. You will learn this eventually, but for now just put the piece of paper in front of you [C G D A E B Gb Db Ab Eb Bb F]
      Step 2: Find all the clusters of [F G A B] and [C D E] on the fretboard. Memorize where the F and C notes are on the low E string and you will be able to find the clusters as well. The clusters are now your linear framework.
      Step 3: Spend maximum 5 minutes per day locating the notes of the circle of 5ths while referencing your clusters. The 5 minute maximum gives you a gauge of how good you're getting. If you can't get through the cycle of 5ths in the 5 minute time limit, it's ok, just try again the next day. Your brain needs days and weeks to store this data. Rushing the process won't work.
      Step 4: When you can find the notes on the low E string relatively easily (under 5 minutes), you'll notice that you don't really need the clusters as much (you're now going directly to the note). At this point add a second string to your daily practice (A string). You should not add a 3rd string until you can find all notes on strings E and A under the 5 minute time limit. When you can can finish the exercise under 5 minutes you know you're ready to add another string.
      Step 5: Don't rush, don't get frustrated. I promise if you take your time and do this everyday you'll know the notes in less than a month. And you'll only get better the more you do it. 20 years of playing guitar and I do some variation of this exercise before each practice session.

If I wanted to create and solve one of most of the problems that you'd ever come across in calculus it would take me at least one and a half or 2 months worth of work to make that tutorial. To then see nobody watch it would make me feel like I was wasting my life. It is very hard to devote months to working on something to just have nobody care about the results.
