We test new Walmart fishing baits, hoping to catch bass with my sons, Ben and Ellis. Despite the challenging summer bass fishing conditions, we fish hard, sharing fishing tips and tricks. This family fishing trip is all about enjoying quality time together while tackling the challenges of father-son fishing. When I was visiting family in California I tried catching channel catfish at lake balboa with no luck. Also with wacky rigs just do two relatively hard upward twitches and let it sink all the way down to the bottom on a semi-slack line instead of slowly lifting it up. Set the hook a little sooner as well

At balboa using night crawlers with an Aberdeen hook with a split shot a few inches above and slowly reeling it of the bottoms slays all species there!

I usually use a weedles rage bug Texas rigged with a 1/8 oz an it gets me bit pretty consistently

To answer your question at the end
Make sure you are making contact with the bottom of the lake (I’m not a huge fan of wacky rigs) I personally like throwing trick worms or any type of shakey head worm types ribbon tail worms seem to work really good to but the whole trick to fishing worm style baits is to let it hit the bottom and count to 10 then pop it off the bottom
Some lures I’d recommend you trying out that work well for my area (southern Pennsylvania) are
-4.5in paddle tails berkley,6th sense,rapala are my go to brands you can use it on either a 3/0 ewg or a belly weighted hook the berkley fusion 19 screw lock hooks are my favorite vmc makes good ones 2
-Googan slim shake worm with an ewg hook or a shakey head
-mepps #3-#5 silver for sunny days gold for cloudy days if the water is muddy fire tiger is a good option or any of there blackfury colors are great
-bomber shallow “a” I love the bass pattern and chart black scale one (I use these like wake baits they are great top water lure and for shallow areas bc they only dive about a ft)
Bomber square “a” 0-3ft diving crank bait
-zman chatterbait MINI OR MICRO I catch some of my best fish on the smaller sized chatterbaits I think the reason is bc the bass are so used to seeing the full size ones on pressured lakes/rivers
-Manns baby 1 minus just like the bomber it’s good for shallow water
-berkley jwalker 120 gotta learn how to walk the dog but this is one of my go to summer bass lures
-strike king KVD 2-4ft square bills
-rapala makes good stuff but $$$
-bandito bug by Googan is really good
Soft plastic brands as a whole I recommend
-Berkley

-Zman KEEP SEPARATE FROM OTHER SOFT PLASTICS THEY WILL FUSE TOGETHER
-Garry Yamamoto
-googan baits
-zoom (best bang for buck)
-strike king /I love there rage swimmer paddle tails
