He’s definitely 1 of my favorite younger drummers. As a musician, I seem to be drawn to drummers that have a jazz background. For example, Jimmy Chamberlin from the Smashing Pumpkins and The Jimmy Chamberlin Complex. Also, Danny Carrey from Tool.

Brother, no disrespect to Jimmy Corgan and James Iha, it's just that when Jimmy Chamberlin began playing in a recent concert with The Smashing Pumpkins he stood out as the best musician on stage. He was very impressive. It was a "Wow" instantly.

This my first video of yours I’m watching… And you, sir, easily gained a follower.
You appreciate music enough that you know when it’s the best time to stop, and you respect the craft enough that you didn’t want to stop during the solo.
You gave deadly input on things only drummers pick up on and explain it to the regular folk like me.
    11/10 Greyson reaction.

@jarvisjeb….touching upon a couple of moments where you noticed Greyson ‘slipped up’…….you are absolutely spot on in your analysis! Like you, I too am a professional drummer. When, on the occasion that an ‘error’ occurs when I play (generally at live venues) and for whatever reason it has happened, we react instinctively having already internalised tempo or pulse for any piece of music which we play. It’s the ‘go to’ escape route. I call it the ‘recovery method’! And yes, it’s something that a well-versed drummer can use to get straight back into the groove….by doubling or tripling up on a beat or combination of beats or even a phrase, and then use what you’ve just created out of necessity to jump back into where you had earlier left off. And the chances are very high that no one outside (or maybe inside the band!) will have noticed as being in any way a fuck-up, but will appreciate that particular move as being part of the drummer’s creative package in that song!! What do you think?

There was a lot of Buddy Rich but I think there there was a bit of Steve Gadd in there as well. Either way, this young man is amazing. Can only imagine how good he’s going to be in a few more years.

He man, I need to tell you him much I appreciate your musical analysis.
I watch a fair amount of drum reaction videos and came across Greyson today for the first time (despite seeing him pop up for a while). Your view is the best reactions I’ve seen. Well done!!
I too am a musician, not a drummer though. I’ve played this song a million times with quite a few incredible and legendary drummers. This kid is insane. For sure. Buddy. Gene. Blakey. Payne. All of those cats. Attention to tradition. Wynton will likely snatch him up. Either him or the Basie band.
    Keep it up.👍🏻🤘🏻

I found out about Greyson during rando-browsing, watching Whiplash stuff, people reacting to various scenes etc. And while i gotta admit that i don't even listen to (or actually like) most types of jazz, watching this dude play, and even watching you react to him was an amazing experience. :-)

This phrase is thrown around a lot, but this young man in my humble opinion was born to play the drums!! I have been playing for 62 years and touring for the last 45 years I've only used that phrase 3 times. My last word on this you man will be DAAAAAAMMMMMNNNN!!

Thanks for the commentary. Loved the shout out to Sonny Payne and I'm glad to know he hasn't been forgotten. Had the chance to see him with Illinois Jacquet at a club outside Boston in the 70's. I saw some great drummers back then playing more adventurous music - guys like Alphonse Mouzon with McCoy Tyner, Al Foster with Miles, Billy Cobham with Mahavishnu, and Don Moye solo and with the Art Ensemble of Chicago - but I always thought Sonny Payne played the best drum solo I ever saw doing straight ahead jazz with Illinois Jacquet. Also that night a little drummer girl named Terri Lyne Carrington sat in with them and played an impressive solo while the band hung out off to the side. I still remember the look she shot them when she wanted them to come back and how those old cats jumped to attention. lol I thought I should remember this kid's name because it looked like she was going to be something special when she grew up.

For some reason this makes me think of Jinjer - a metal band from Ukraine, quite popular with reactors on youtube. Their drummer, Vlad, is excellent, and apparently self-taught. All of them are awesome musicians.
Most people get introduced to Jinjer with their song Pisces (you'll find out why if you react to it :p); other great songs are for example Teacher teacher, and Vortex.
Completely different genre and style, but also great. Would recommend reacting.
