2017 Jaguar XE 35t R-Sport - One Take

- The new Jaguar XE is designed to compete with the BMW 3-Series, Audi A4, and Mercedes C-Class. With a 340 HP, Supercharged V6 engine, RWD layout, a great exhaust note, and excellent chassis dynamics, the XE could take it to the Germans. We test the XE on Jaguar's media launch event from Aspen, Colorado.
Jaguar provided airfare, hotel, food, and the test vehicle for this review.
I have that exact car. 8 years later 60K miles and still drives smooth
Jesus that shot at 1:33 was just perfect, like wow. How is it possible I haven't seen anyone else comment about that clip?
I picked mine up last week, and must say it's the best sounding V6 I've ever driven. Very happy.
Still have the XE? Good car?
Had one of these puppies for over a year now. It's a phenomenal car. And new mods mean you can easily upgrade to get the full 480 horses out of that superb SC V6.
Have one what i do to get 480?
Ahh, I can't wait until 3 years pass by and I can purchase one for less than half original price.
One more year to go!
This comment has aged extremely well. Spot on guess.
going to buy one now! haha!
Feeefz I am looking as well, just checking old reviews. Trying to work out if cooled seats were standard or an option. Nice thing is, not reading about reliability issues.
@@93455Driver just bought mine, cooled seats are an option not standard. :/ I also thought ambient lighting was standard but it is an option.
3:25 when the acid kicks in
Yes!! Lol
thanks for that
lol word
It's a fucking rainbow, man!
jaguar have killed it with this car absolutely fantastic.
I recently test drove both, the 2016 BMW 340i (with the new B58 engine, as well as adaptive M suspension), and the 2017 Jaguar XE 35t premium. As sweet as that Bimmer is, I can attest to the fact that the Jag handles and rides better (even without any optional adaptive dampers, mind you). And it fit me comfortably and the overall quality is good for the segment. Add the standard 5 year / 60,000 mile warranty and free scheduled maintenance, and I think I know which one I'm gonna go for. I'm still smiling after test driving the XE. :)
So did you stick with it?
How did it act?
@@turkay67turkay Yep, 4 years into a fuss-free, fun ownership. The interior has become severely outdated but I love the way it looks and drives.
can't tell if my pain meds are kicking in, or that windscreen has a crazy coating. fuck my leg hurts.
What did you do to your leg?
Too much footing, eh?
Myalgia from excessive footjobs eh?
They are probably using a polarized filter.
I see the same. :)
+Andreas Breslawski Pain meds do not suck.
I own a 2019 XE S AWD. One of my favorite cars to drive.
Any issues? I'm currently in the market
I want it, because its a Jaaaag.
I'm terribly sorry! I ran over your dog.. in my Jaaaaaaag ;)
Would you mind paying this time old chap, I appear to have gone and left my wallet in the Jaaaaaag
Enlighten me with the source of this reference, please.
Hahaha. Love these, thanks yáll.
And of course old Jezza.
MetalAsFork Its from a Top Gear episode, where the 3 guys talks about owning a Jaaaag ;)
Jaguar look like they've done yet another good job with this one. I really like everything that they offer right now.
Those waves on the windshield..
It's most likely from the polarized windshield. Matt may be running a polarizer filter on his camera as well.
+GrandCamino6 I keep thinking its a fkn wall outlet
i thought i was high without being high on shrooms
Hey Matt. I'm glad you enjoyed my home state! You should definitely come explore more of the mountain roads around Vail. Truly breathtaking.
Matt, the scenery of your road tests add another dimension to the viewing pleasure. Thanks.
I had one of these in Italian Racing Red. I absolutely loved it. Mine didn’t have the active cruise like this one does.
Now all they need to do is stuff a detuned version of the V8 from the F-Type and throw a R in the name. XE R! I'm a marketing mastermind (I'm not)
Imagine an SVR version 😍
TheWesh 832000 It'll sound better than everything in the segment. That's for sure.
(You are though)
Jaguar seems like a nice company to fly you out and provide a hotel, food and a killer looking car. You have a great job.
That's pretty standard stuff across the industry. Cheaper for them to fly 50 people to one place than to ship cars all over the world.
Fantastic camera work on the flyby shots on this one!
Car, scenery, road, photography all incredible.... Great work!! Wish we had freedom to speed and drive like this in Oz. We'd be in gaol if caught at half this speed!!
OMG there was no reviews for this car on CZcams as of a couple weeks ago and then BOOM, my fave reviewer is in the seat of the car im most curious about. THANK YOU!
Another tough day in the office - stunning scenery.
@TheSmokingTire just because the V8 fits doesn't mean they will bring one out with it. I doubt it with how most companies are downsizing motors, but I could be wrong. Maybe a very limited R model
choob They did, Jaguar XE SV8... only the 600bhp...
Drive by shots are gorgeous
The 'waterfall flyby shot' - skills!
Damn.. that alien in the windshield 01:48
Right now I'm at 0:20 and really excited for this review
Def a beautiful car. I would most likely chose this over an S4 or 335.
I have the XE 2 litre 25t R Sport AWD with the red/black leather. I love it but the one thing I hanker for is the V6 exhaust sound!
the sound with that faint supercharger whine is superbly beautiful!
It really sounds great. Muted growl to muted roar with with a little whine on top, and all without the fake electronic nonsense that others are resorting to. Sounds just right from the outside too.
Paul Deverill all in all i think jag have a winner here. looks great, sounds great, drives great, and the electronics are finally on par with the germans. i think especially bmw have totally lost their sense of style...
these generation of the jag looks clean and simple
that water fall shot and good lord the mountains, I can't wait to go over there and drive me cuhmaaaro
Jesus that's a gorgeous road...I'm considering the XE as my next daily-driver and would be buying in December, I would much rather have it over the 3-Series, A4 or C-Class. Tested the 25t (that's all that was in stock) and even in that guise it was a good car. Awesome video!
I've had my 25t remapped to 300bhp. Plenty quick enough for me! Lacks the sound of the V6 though.
polarized windshield reminds me of my trip the other night haha
Beautiful car no doubt. My only concern is that I feel that Jaguars have more mechanical issues compared to the rest of the European brands.
Annnnd you basically just sold me on my next courier vehicle! I was literally out looking at the bimmer 340 xdrive, and C400 4 matic (I'm in NE Canada so um SNOW!) earlier today. Frickin love that engine note!
God Damn. That scenery takes me back.
For me, the C-Class still wins this category. The only problem with the Mercedes: it's so popular, it's everywhere!
C class isn't even sporty like bmw and jaguar it has so much body roll
The click of that paddle shifter... is it supposed to be like that? 😂😂😂😂😂😂 may be broken
Or was I hearing something elce clicking??
I don´t know, but I think it´s just the way he shift´s.
It's plastic thats why.
That's how those sound. I test drove an XFR last year, same shitty plastic feel and sound. Like Matt said, kinda of a big let down, especially since it was an R model where the drivers are way more likely to use the paddles
+Matt Wasilewicz not an R model he said that plenty of times
thanks for pushing the quality content constantly Matt
What a Stunning road...
I find it humorous that everyone claims it is too small on the inside...and completely forget the older 3 series is pretty much about the same dimension wise. These are called 'COMPACT executive' cars for a reason.
On the other hand, the Cadillac ATS & this Jaguar XE seems to be more focused on their driving qualities than anything else. Which would you prefer driving Matt?
Glad to see a review of the Jag XE it's on my top 3 list for cars to buy next.
That's a neat squatting slav uniform you got there Matt.
But really, that place looks amazing. All those trees!
Your camera crew must have loved this trip, those vistas are unreal!
I don't have a film crew but I certainly enjoyed the scenery!
Your camera skills are great man. love your videos
Nice vehicle and gorgeous road!
I love the car. You really don't see too many of them but I'd honestly rather have one after seeing this and the other reviews.
This looks like the love child of a 3 Series and an A4.
The waterfall made me laugh. I didn't know you were so artistic haha
Forget the car and look at that gorgeous view of the trees and mountains. OK the Jag is nice too.
Love the psychedelic reflection in the windshield!
I agree Matt superb piece of road. Exceptional camera work guys. Phenomenal vid, very nicely done indeed. This car was perfect for a one take imo
You creeping up on 600k Matt congrats 👍👍👍
I own this car and it’s the best car I’ve ever owned, the pulls this car can do is out of this world, also in person it looks even sexier than in the videos, in tunnels it sounds ridiculously good, and I don’t have the little rectangle piece in the front grill which makes it look much more streamlined
Still no regrets? Cooled seats?
93455Driver only regret was hitting a pothole I didn’t see, had to replace a tire, a $300 mistake. But other than that no regrets, no reliability issues or anything. Yes, the cooled seats are wonderful on hot days!
Owen Hido Good stuff, found a certified all red R with black accents for sale, but no cooled seats. Some coming off lease.
93455Driver wonderful, should be a great car for you, enjoy it :)
that is a lovely motor
loving the cinematography of the opening shots. also loving the submariner matt!
I'm thinking about purchasing a 2017 Jaguar xe but I don't know whether to go for the 25t prestige or the 35t premium. Ik there's a difference in the engine size but I was wondering if the 35t premium had the same amount of options as the 25t prestige since it has the next level engine. Or does the 25t prestige still come with more options since it's the prestige. Somebody please help.
I cant believe you were in my small town and I missed it.
That definitely is one gorgeous road
The wheels on this car look amazing!
Nice All Black top you have on there Matt.
I'm a Kiwi and will probably buy one of these this week.
Here in New Zealand the XE S is very rare, but your review has made up my mind.
Those drive by shots are so on point! Nicely done!
I love the continuity in this vid Matt!
Fantastic car, would take it over all of the Germans. Although, my money would go to the Giulia - it is the driver's choice.
It's the cheapest and ugliest jag, they only made it for it to be affordable, get an xf
Jake Deane This competes with the 3 Series no? So does the Giulia.
+ChaosphereIX you know what I'm doing getting cheap car then upgrading the suspension to multi link fully independent wish bone chase abs rear dif getting to were it only takes 2 turns to lock the stearing so it can turn better than must cars
legendary nikoproyou that was not English, sorry.
+legendary nikoproyou lol
wow Aspen is amazing
I like the older v8 models but this one seems really nice
Happy for Jag that they are back in the sport sedan game and I like the car... but I feel the styling is a little too conservative. F-Pace looks really sexy, sharp and futuristic, this is just nice and nothing else. The outside looks like it's just a regular everyday car (heck it looks like a 2014 model). If you put it's competition next to it and take off the badges, i wouldn't be surprised if regular people would get them confused or say they were made from the same manufacturer. Not sure what is is but i feel like its maybe the headlights/taillights? They should've put Jags new LED headlight design found on the fpace and xf. I find the Infinitis, Lexuses (lexi?) and Volvos have a more futuristic styling on the exterior/interior. Also, i find the interior is pretty basic, the lexus IS/RC in my opinion has nailed what a sporty interior should look like, not that this is an ugly interior it' just a nice clean normal interior. One thing for sure is the engine, tunning, and handling characteristics of this car are pretty fkn awesome. Good job Jag glad to see you guys back in full force!
Pleased they updated the NAV. Had a new 2016 2.0d as a rental while in the UK and it was a great car. Really nice ZF box, motor was "fine" for what it is. Really impressed me with the handling around west Scotland though. Averaged 46MPG over the whole 2000 mile trip and wasn't taking it easy.
they have 2 different nav systems. The base system is OK, but the upgraded one is dope as shit
I wish it were possible to swap the nav system. I have a 2012 Rover, love the vehicle, but honestly that nav system is a complete piece of laggy shit. Its about time they updated it
Feel free to make videos like these longer, the scenery is so nice to see
The road he is on reminds me of the Rocky Pass level on NFS III
Needs cat back exhaust and smaller S/C pulley :)
Matt, you meant the BMW 340i with the performance package, it can be ordered with xdrive too and have 360hp vs 320hp in the "normal" verson.
that view is insane!
Really enjoy your car reviews. I feel like you are giving a very honest review with no bull shit.
Nice, must visit there someday. I like the cutaways and good outside audio. I know very little about cameras and even less about mounting cameras in cars on a budget (GoPro's excepted) but it would have been even cooler to have really really sharp forward facing video. Anyway, I'm sold. I'll have one in green on those wheels. Send me the money.
I passed one of these on the highway two weeks ago. It was blazing, and didn't look to have been in a crash. Still had the paper plates on it too. Was like ah.....guess the British quality is still there.
Just test drove one love the Jaguar supercharged platform I’m in a toss up between this and the xfr
The infotainment system is called InControl.
Good day my friend. Special scenery and a performance Jag saloon. Great early push at the German big three.
Very picturesque video. epic location to drive. i'd love to see the diesel review also
335i is only 45k max for 2015 3k miles certified pre owned with xDrive all wheel drive, m sport pack, nav, premium package, driver assistance, cold weather, harman kardon, etc. For 2016+ the 335i is replaced by the 340i and can cost 56k with track handling package, driver assistance package, tech package, m sport package, heated front seats, side and top cameras, enhanced usb & bluetooth w/ smartphone integration.
This being said, the XE has better interior and sound! Cmon BMW step it up!
nice Matt, thanks for sharing the views were spectacular!:). What is the name of this road by the way, I would love to drive it when I visit Colorado!
Have you noticed that nearly all British cars come with excellent handling. Even the MINI the first two generations have good handling.
Thanks for using the manual paddles! It seems like the downshift paddle has a bit of a delay that would be really annoying
Incredible scenery!
Nice car, but I wish they would have made the paddle shifter a bit more quiet. Maybe it's something else, but it seems to be the culprit behind that audible "click" noise you hear when you up shift.
beautifully shot video
I don't understand all the negativity about this review.vMatt is an automotive journalist. They don't pay him to do a review. If you think it was paid then you'd have to say the other 49 journalists were paid too. This is typical of the reviews I've seen from Matt. If the car deserves it, some nice things and some negative things like the plastic paddles and too much use of plastic.
The road looked to be made up of long sweepers and he appears to be driving quite rapidly. Most of the roads in So Cal are tighter.
That's very happy rainbow
god damn that's truly a fantastic road
InControl Touch Pro is the name of the media system in that
It looks so good to me compared to the BMW or the Audi or the CLA45.
The plastic shifter paddles were a crappy uninspired place for Jaguar to save money.
I wonder how expensive it would be to CNC some and then get them installed.. :) I know it's definitely doable.
Video quality wise, Best one take yet👍
jag all day always
I think this looks awesome. I would rep this as a daily driver for sure if i had the money
Camera work looks great Matt!!! 👍🏻
damn..what a gorgeous car
Good video Matt! Thanks again.
at almost 8k in elevation, that's a performance hit
The acid is kicking in as the sky seems to be pink in some places. 😂
I enjoy seeing people's cars much more then this promotional stuff. I was hoping for a modified jag (like that crazy old one with an LS)...but I understand you have bills to pay.
Promotional stuff? Bills to pay? This is a review of a car. It's not a commercial.
I'm glad people enjoy these reviews and Aspen is a beautiful place...but like it or not you are promoting a product(it's called free publicity in this case).
I'm not saying there's anything wrong about it, I just happen to enjoy the one takes where you drive other peoples cars and have a conversation with them, a lot more.
I'm reviewing a product. Jaguar is promoting a product. Big difference.
Fair enough! Won't change my mind about the one takes though.
Simply adding the word "review" to the video title could of avoided this kind of disappointment...and is really all I was trying to say.
Keep up the good work!
+Hard-Edge Painting I mean, all my videos are titled with the same format
