DeathbyRomy is meant to be depression itself, and the parents are supposed to represent that no one is paying attention to people with issues, they're only worried about the world. I think it's meant to be a symbol of the fact that everyone is focused on the worlds problems, and not the fact that people are depressed and harming themselves. People who cope with video games tend to distance themselves from society and only focusing on their games. Coping with animals usually leads to a lack of social skills and only relying on something that can't even communicate with you verbally to be your comfort. Drinking is a coping mechanism for a lot of people, that's why alcoholism exists. Gluttony is a huge thing with people sometimes. People eat to cope (me included) and it's also why bulimia exists, predominantly. Smoking is seen as a coping mechanism too since nicotine calms you down. The girl with two phones is probably someone who uses social media to cope, by posting constantly and "begging" for attention. People do that. A lot. Especially nowadays with snapchat and instagram being huge media sites.
Sure all of these are addictions, but it doesn't make sense to try and say that animals are an addiction or that food is an addiction. They're not.
It's all comfort culture.
None of these are good coping mechanisms, regardless of how you see it. People need people to talk to, and this is an example of people not having that.
Technically you can be addicted to food. Sugar is addictive and loads of food contain it
@@da_nox you can easily get addicted to any coping mechanisms if you are not mentally healthy, yes the drugs or the sugar or the social medias are addicitive in themselfs but i think its mostly the people who have issues who get soaked into them sice they comfort them.

I truly love this song and the video that accompanies it. It's so simple but so raw and it really illustrates how we use escapism through almost any means (drugs, alcohol, food, sex) so long as it helps distract us from our own problems. I also like that it shows things considered vain or shallow, but they only seem that way because we stay self-involved and distracted so we don't have to think about not only our own issues, but the issues facing society at large. This is truly a gorgeous piece and I think she deserves so much appreciation for drawing attention to an issue many of us face.

It's okay to not cope some times. The volume of stuff we deal with through life can get overwhelming and admitting you are overwhelmed is the key to coping. Acknowledging you're not coping is how you get the right help.
